Tastespotting Penthouse- 02.22.07

penthousemain.jpg
Today is Tastespotting’s 1 month anniversary, and the first of hopefully many exclusive Tastespotting dinners to come. Tonight we descended upon the Penthouse at the Huntley in Santa Monica, and we couldn’t have picked a better night. With such a clear night, the view was absolutely breathtaking… something about being 18 floors up discussing great design, delicious delicacies, and the future of notcot was just surreal. The Penthouse only opened about a week and a half ago, so it was fun to break in a new neighborhood spot even younger than our month old Tastespotting. Quick snapshots below of the aspects of the night that grabbed me most…

Quick overview of Huntley and Penthouse images… it has some rather eclectic decor going on… and a view you could stare out at for days…

Here’s the view from our table tonight…

Looking down on Santa Monica ~ and out at the vast black pit of ocean (aka santa monica bay) was strangely calming… that well lit street along the left is 3rd Street Promenade (and somewhere down there you can probably almost see the new ThisNext office even!)

Most bizarre/fascinating of all the decor ~ the white gloss dipped piranha wall in the main lobby… which was surrounded by leather and fur couches, rugs, throw pillows.

Love the name of their dessert menu ~ “Happy Endings” ~ so many ways to interpret that phrase… and also note the Angry Marshmallow Brownies. The name alone made it a “must order”… and they were pretty delicious as well…

And for anyone wondering what an Angry Marshmallow Brownie looks like… those gooey cubes to the right are them. To the left is the Warm Chocolate Pudding ‘Cupcakes’…

P.S.
If there’s interest in starting joining in on some design+food+wine get-togethers, feel free to leave a note… we’re playing with the idea particularly in LA and SF at the moment, because frankly, as much as we work and shop, we need to eat too!

P.S.S
As for the real round up on how the food was tonight ~ keep an eye on Sarah’s The Delicious Life, she should have the juicy review of our dining experience up soon… also, excuse the poor picture quality, i was a bit too busy enjoying the dinner, and lack the experience of pro-food-bloggers when it comes to eating and shooting and having fun all at once!

Count me in for any LA get together. I know of a perticular mexican place in the valley that is fun and the bartender and wait staff may or may not be on a first name basis with me.
