As for safety, I would argue that existing match book or match box designs are equally if not more dangerous. As you strike a match on a box, it *could* fly out of your hand. You *could* drop it.
I’d love to have one of these, just for the cool factor.

Notice how the match end, once lit, only touches the wooden part of the matches inside the container if it gets pushed back in.

To conflagrate the wooden ends of the matches probably requires more oxygen than is contained within the dispenser.

What if that happens with a zippo… or a regular pack of matches for that matter. Humans already know fire is dangerous, just try not being dumb with flammables.

The thing wouldn’t even light properly unless you pulled it all the way out due to lack of oxygen in the striker tube. And inside, a flame would consume the uncompressed oxygen remarkably fast and burn out. Having less matches would result in more oxygen to burn, but also less compression after burning due to less fuel source.

That’s just theory though. I suppose it could be dangerous, but then, such is life. Suck it up and live a little.

Wee Keat, when you shoved it back in when it was lit, the unlit part of the match would create a blockage in the device, and there wouldn’t be enough air to maintain the flame more more than a second or so. This limited amount of time wouldn’t be enough to light the other matches, whose combustible tips are all the way at the bottom the the container. :)

What if a helpless child comes along while you’re drinking gasoline in the dark in a fireworks factory next to the school full of helpess children and behind the shopping mall on christmas where santa is and the child is afraid of the dark and can’t find the light switch and you pull out your box of lucifer matches and light one and NOTHING HAPPENS AT ALL??!

This is not a deadly product for those who don’t live in Barbieland and can understand that fire is hot.

I implore you to live more dangerously and encourage proper match use for all ages.

I’ll take 3 cases. 2 for me, one for the kiddies so they might learn not to burn.

Cool design, possibly with safety flaws.
But we don’t really know that yet do we, cause non of us has tried the damn thing.
Try it out, give it some time, and only then come out with your opinions.
That is all. There should be no further comments on the supposed safety issue.

Such beautiful packaging! I’m a design addict and a smoker, so I’m slobbering over this one. You’ve probably seen this already, but Tobias Wong has also created a really cool matchbook… although not as useful.

It’s simple, if you don think its safe, dont buy it! I for one think its great, am completely over the old matchbox.

It’s a really beautiful matchbook! But I find with matchbooks the rough surface that you strike on tends to wear out. What happens when the rough surface in this device wears out. Can it be replaced or do you need to buy a new one?

If a bunch of 4 year olds burn a house down with this it will be because (a) they have not been taught not to play with matches by their parents as well as (b) said parents have not been taught not to tempt fate and leave matches within the reach of 4 year olds.

Looks neat but I’m not sure it works correctly when there are only few matches left, they could stuck in.

ABOUT SAFETY: Keep it away from children. Pure and simple.

Nice but you need a striker someone on the outside else you risk someone pushing a match that didn’t light back in and then causing a problem. Just a little strick strip somewhere would do - cool idea though

What about when there’s just a few matches left. It looks like it would be difficult to shake it out. And what’s the striking surface? If it’s anything like a match book this thing would be ruined by wear and tear and/or water.
Aside from those flaws - it would work well as a gimmick - nothing else.

It doesn’t take a firefighter like myself to see the danger of kids getting hold of something like this. It’s likely that it will shortly be banned just as lighters without safety mechanisms were decades ago.

Don’t get me wrong… I’m an engineer by trade. I think it is very clever, just not very safe.

The people complaining about this product do not deserve fire. They should be forced to live without fire or its benefits.

since when is it necessary to make everything child and idiot proof? if you have a child or idiot in the household, then this obviously wouldnt be a smart decision to leave out in the open. however, for people with an iq in the double digits, its a cool match holder/striker. durrrrrrr.

im 14 and this is the coolest design i have ever seen.
about the 4 year olds they will only burn the tips of their fingers and they will learn there life lesson that fire is bad then get over it. secondly, if u thave a 4 year old in your house i think that you would keep this fantasitc design out of reach of the child
