Plane Jane- 04.18.08

0416plane2.jpgNOTCOT Note: Here’s another treat from Anna of Sub-Studio!

Swissmiss turned me on to Delaney Jane Larson, who creates gorgeous illustrations under the pseudonym of Plane Jane. I very much like how she has usurped the iconography of traditional playing card designs to create her own cast of characters. The subject of her work is very much the stuff of dreams - little monsters, the wool of shorn sheep creating clouds, pimped out Kings and Queens. Her color palette is kept fairly limited in order to “counterbalance the situational idiosyncrasies” of her illustrations. Her strongest work is in the illustrations and paintings themselves, although she has translated some of the illustrations into t-shirts, cards, ceramics, and tote bags, available here. See more of her great illustrations after the jump!

I checked out her website. She seems to have a GREAT sense of humor. I am hoping that puts out a book or something along those lines.

Delaney continues to amaze me with her creativity. I love how delicate these are—simple, yet intricate. They’re sweet and dreamlike and each one tells a story. Check her website—her etchings are my favorite!

I love Delaney’s work. It’s like every good childhood book rolled into one little world. All the whimsy of Lewis Carroll, the absurdity of Edward Gorey, but with a lot of true feeling that avoids sentimentality by being clever with a dry wit. Can’t wait to see what else she comes up with!

I think her stuff is great. I want the vulture looking dude on a t-shirt. It all makes me think….

She’ll be at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn in June! Go check her out I’m sure she’ll have most of her prints for sale. If you can’t make it to Brooklyn email her.

Slapster, I’m sure if you contact her via the contact section of her website she can either hook you up with or let you know about future plans for prints.

As for the art itself I personally enjoy these ‘Plane’ yet story-rich & playful illustrations. Especially in this world full of technological chaos where the human touch is becoming increasingly more rare.

LOVE the illustrations! I wish they had some small prints for sale though, any way to find out if they have anything like that planned?
