Denim Insulation at the CA Academy of Sciences- 08.25.08

denim.jpgAnother Outside Lands’ Eco-lands discovery ~ that beyond the living roof, solar panels, and more sustanable architecture going into the new California Academy of Sciences building reopening in Sept in Golden Gate Park ~ they are using recycled DENIM insulation! So if you’re not sure what to do with all those old jeans, apparently this is a great way to make better use of them!

See more images on the next page ~ read more about the California Academy of Sciences building here ~ and check out the PENGUIN CAMs!

1 Notes

It’s actually 200,000 pairs of jeans donated by the Levi Strauss company.

The Cal Academy was featured on an episode of Extreme Engineering where the show followed the workers as they put in the huge curved piece of glass used in the Rainforest Dome. Start with this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4Mm3FGMkrI.
