“OWL” Wine Opener by Hagino Mitsunobu- 04.20.10
On designer impulse buys this week ~ the last place i expected to buy a matte black silicone painted japanese wine opener… was when popping over to check out the Bottega Veneta Home collection opening reception in their pop-up shop… But there it was, amongst a series of irresistible black metal minimalist beautiful pieces i had to talk myself out of, until i ended up with simply this “OWL” Wine Opener by Hagino Mitsunobu… the inner spike within the coil is lovely! I’m quite smitten by it, and as i write this post, i finally just tried it out! (It’s been a busy week!) In addition to the many closeups, unboxing pics, in action pics and more on the next page… also take a peek at the other pieces from the collection i was tempted by on the next page…
Japanese designer Hagino Mitsunobu, winner of Wallpaper Design Awards 2010 for Best domestic design for his FD Style product series, created OWL, a beautiful stainless steel wine opener finished in black silicone heatproof paint.
For NICO Hyakunen Monogatari’s collection he developed “Open” series, a collection of cooking tools that can open anything and everything in the kitchen, and a second range of tools, “Men’s”, aimed at their discerning male clients.
In both cases they have avoided the use of rivets but rather welded each part together to increase durability and, as the smooth finish means that oil etc does not stick in these joints, the utensils are highly hygienic.
Prince Kogyo has 40 years of expertise in creating essential kitchen utensils, specifically tools used to open and remove lids such as tin openers, bottle openers, corkscrews etc.
Currently watching the inter/barcelona match in milan (on tv!) while posting (also why it’s taking far too long to finally publish this post!)… so took a few pics of the wine opener in use… it worked wonderfully! Feels so solid, so sleek… i’m smitten!
A close up of the cutter…
I want one! If only I read Japanese or could figure out how to translate the order page! How much do these go for and how do I order one?
