Designersblock at LDF2011- 09.23.11

00-designersblockmain.jpg Our London-based editor Justine catches up with the latest action from the London Design Festival!

Yesterday was a preview filled day with so much inspiring design and beautiful exhibition spaces! One of the most exciting press previews was that of Designersblock at the Farmiloe Building (which we also visited recently during Clerkenwell Design Week). The press preview was full of unexpected touches, including elaborate and bizarre costumes and interpretive performances and the stunning Victorian building again played host to some stunning products and installations. More photos on the next page!

Enormous balloons, furniture and a vintage tea set hung from the ceiling in a beautifully surreal installation.

The courtyard area was home to the bar, gelato stand, a pop-up shop and artists at work on these lovely walls.

Inside, unexpected costumes and outbursts of interpretive dancing (by artists from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) made this a press preview to remember.

The rooms upstairs were turned into mini galleries within the space and the dark warehouse feel really showed off some pieces, like this lamp from Nadine Spencer.

Adorable little planters from Greig Patterson.

This moss table was an interesting part of “Biophotovoltaics: Design in Science from Cambridge University”.

A bright display of lamps from Donna Walker.

A view from the top of the Farmiloe building at the many floors of designersblock goodness within and a closer look at those suspended chairs, cups and saucers. Who would have thought a tea set could make such a stunning mobile!
