“Wash Away All Sins” Soap Dispenser

soap.jpg Undergrowth Design “Wash Away All Sins” Soap Dispenser ~ designer Tina Tsang describes it as “Angled for a perfect scrub to cleanse away all your naughty secrets! Resembling a ‘foaming’ bar of soap sinking into the sink top, the ‘Wash Away All Sins’ Soap Dispenser is hand-made in England with ceramic earthenware. On the reverse side, a definition of ‘clean’ to remind user of new state of ‘cleanliness’, innocent of all their little sins.”

Moderna Museet Graphite Pencils

modernapencils0.jpg Inspiration comes in so many forms, and can feel so good in your hand… like these solid graphite pencils from the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. The weight is SO nice! And then combine it with great colors from your usual graphite options to gold, silver, and purple!!! And on top of that, add great quotes from some fun and inspiring artists… does it get more NOTCOT than this Warhol quote? “I never read, i just look at the pictures.” ~ Well that just about sums up how i feel about why i needed NOTCOT.org in my life, sometimes we just need pictures to float through us to interpret as we wish…

Others are:
Max Ernst: All good ideas arrive by chance
Marc Chagall: Great art picks up where nature ends.
Robert Rauschenberg: “Now” is my competition.
Robert Rauschenberg: A canvas is never empty.
Pablo Picasso: Everything you can imagine is real.
Diane Arbus: Nothing is ever the same as they said it was..
Salvador Dali: I don’t do drugs. I am drugs.
Salvador Dalí: Have no fear of perfection - you’ll never reach it.

Luckily the Moderna Museet has a webshop too! See more pics on the next page as usual…

Brio Network 1-1.5

briotech1.jpgBrio Network Collection ~ first time seeing it in person, i just noticed it in a tiny kids play cubby hole in Magasin 3 in Stockholm! Between the lovely space and works i totally got sucked into photographing these very well played with and possibly chewed on little woody guys reenacting how computers work… from emails to viruses and search and more! If you recall, i’ve written about Series 1 here and here in the past… but this is the first look at them up close, now i’m so tempted to try to track down the full set!

p.s.
for americans, i found a few at Amazon: Brio Network Toys!

Brio My Very First…

brio1.jpg On a quick look at Stockholm shopping before Absolut madness kicks in… turned a corner, saw this brightly lit store of enticing colorfulness… realized it was Brio! And proceeded to let my inner 5 year old out ~ i don’t think i’ve ever had the chance to see all of their toys in one place (we certainly only get bits and pieces of the collections in the US lately) ~ and i had no idea they had so many amazing strollers and high chairs too! Unfortunately i didn’t have my proper camera (was in shopping mode!) but did snap a bunch of cell phone pics to share with you on the next page… the walrus is just adorable… the flying bunnies are hilarious… the fake cellphones cute too (but we all know kids know better and never stand for the imitation phones when they can grab at your fully functioning one!)… and yes that pez dispenser looking walrus is totally in a hoodie (and the hood can be pulled back!)… so take a peek at some cell phone pics from the Stockholm Brio store of the Brio “My Very First” collection

Gent Supply Co.

gent.jpg On exciting new launches, the lovely ladies of Delight.com have just announced the Gent Supply Co.! While i have always loved the selection of goods at Delight, i must admit that the Gent Supply Co definitely leans a lot more NOTCOT ~ not that we’re more boyish over here, but for some reason or other it definitely leans more towards the fun vices like scotch sipping, mad men loving (yes they totally have a Sterling Cooper style section), card playing, gadgets and tech set. Also, i hear that the gift wrap will be less pink tissue paper and more grey kraft paper with a black satin bow! (Delight has always had the loveliest UX when it comes to gorgeous gifts to send to people! So i’m super stoked about a more NOTCOT styled color palette!) So congrats to Tracey, Lynda, and team on their newest venture, Gent Supply Co.! I can’t wait to see what goodies pop up next!

p.s.
Tracey has just offered us Free Shipping through the end of Oct with the code: GentSupplyCo22

Rocket World T.A.D. Griz Lee Bear

tadgearbear1.jpg I dont think that bear with crazed eyes and spork in hand could sum up how i’m feeling today better… unless maybe he was sipping some Balvenie 21yr Portwood as well… yes, let me level with you, it is most certainly that kind of a tuesday after a long weekend. BUT, on the flipside, it makes for an awesome excuse to share pics of this adorably crazed Rocket World T.A.D. Griz Lee Bear with you. T.A.D. Gear stands for Triple Aught Design ~ and is truly some of the best designed tactical you’ll find… not to mention it’s the brain child of Patrick Ma alongside with my favorite Rocket World creatures. While i have much more to show you from my latest stop up at their store/studios in SF, lets start with the spork wielding Griz. Check out the fun packaging and details on the next page…

JimmyJane Contour M+Q

jjmassagers0.jpg JimmyJane has been expanding their product line quite a bit ~ and the latest addition is the Contour Q pair of ceramic massage stones! They also work beautifully together with the Contour M… and while i’ve seen pictures of them for some time, seeing them in person, they gorgeously simple as is expected of JimmyJane, and they are more like mini porcelain sculptures you can hold in your hand! They are “Body-friendly, double-fired porcelain is hygienic and non-porous and can be warmed or cooled for extra stimulation.” Also fun? The cheeky pink interiors of the packaging have sayings tucked away… including a “for a good time call…” message if you take all of the packaging out of the Contour M Set… Take a look at all the details up close on the next page!

Lotte Berk Method Imagery

lotteberk1.jpg What a beautiful Sunday it is! On random inspiration (and i know, i’ve been a bit all over the place finding - or searching - for visual inspiration and feeding my insatiable curiosity just about anywhere lately - thanks for coming along for the ride as i figure things out while posting)… i never thought i’d be posting images from an early 70’s exercise book here! But as i was checking out the pdf of the now out of print (but ebook available) Lotte Berk Method: Exercises for a Vital Body by Lydia Bach, i just couldn’t get over how beautiful and artistic the imagery was ~ from the photography to the illustrations of the muscles… So naturally i had to share!

Oh and for some quick background on how i ended up at this at 3am on a saturday night… well you know how exercise fads come and go… and for some time now both the Exhale and Bar Method classes have been spreading quickly! Toning and strengthening your core and improving flexibility ~ making grown men and women twitch and weep while doing the tiniest of motions ~ giving you long lean muscles through low impact exercises mixing everything from modern ballet to yoga to orthopedic exercises… the Lotte Berk book even focuses on pelvic movements of sex as an influence on core strengthening. So while i was researching these various trends (a friend was recently working on me to come to Exhale classes, and i tried a few Bar Method classes a few years back) - i turns out that many of these “new” method all evolved directly from the Lotte Berk Method from the 70s ~ which was originated by Lotte Berk, a german dancer and teacher who developed the series of exercises to help her own recovery, and continued refining and teaching them in her studio in the UK, where Lydia Bach (author of the book) discovered her, loved her methods and licensed her name and methods, bringing them to the US. The internet says that the Exhale and Bar Method founder even came from running/teaching at Lotte Berk studios, so its no surprise that they are evolutions of the same methods from the 70s. Anyhow, that was my little random research last night ~ take a peek at the images on the next page!

p.s.
loving the workouts to slip into workaholic days with too much time spent at the computers…

SDCC 09 - Rocketworld

rocketworld0.jpg On NOTCOT favorites, SDCC highlights always including visiting the Rocketworld booth to see what Patrick/Otter X and his crew have been up to. Just as it was really fun to see how many unexpected product offerings were popping up at Dumbrella’s booth ~ Rocketworld is also expanding and evolving through collaboration in some great new directions… incredibly cozy floppy plush toys (with velcro hands and skull - and a little belly button!)… super limited edition silver jewelry pieces (only 5 of some of them! i couldn’t help myself)… stickers!… 2 series of new toys… mini exact replica T.A.D. Gear backpacks for the IWG… letterpressed cards… and even a peek at a *possible* animated IWG to be! In a time where many companies (esp some of the toy guys it seems) are hurting a bit, and it certainly felt like less new launches this year… the Rocketworld booth was almost all brand new products, and really expanding the line by bringing in friends who are masters at plushes and jewelry. See lots of pics on the next page!

SDCC 09 - KidRobot

kidrobot0.jpg On toys i was excited to peek at in person ~ three blind box sets from KidRobot jumped out at me at their booth. The Futurama ones of course ~ and Junko Mizuno’s Pure Trance ~ and DJ Kid Acne’s Rolling Stock… take a look at closeups on the next page!

SDCC 09 - Andrew Bell’s O-No Sushi

ono0.jpg While the sdcc preview night doors open in just a few minutes ~ i couldn’t resist taking in the view and doing a little photoshoot on the hotel coffee table to show you Andrew Bell’s amazing O-No Food Company Sushi toys that just launched with limited edition Blue 150 colorway (only 150 pieces) for sdcc… Luckily the Dumbrella crew snuck me in early, and gave me a chance to see what pre-comicon is really like (constant forklift dodging!)… BUT back to the matter at hand, while i got excited about these Sushi guys when they were NOTCOT.org #22670 ~ they are even better in person! And their stumpy little arms rotate… their eyes swap… and he’s strategically placed his name on them too. Anyhow, see the pics of them on the next page… i even tried to put SOME of their tentacles back on…

Ma Me Pa - Eco Turtle Toys

turtlesmain.jpg Found these adorable wooden kids pull toys the other day, and the simplicity of the design, and the appeal of the adorable glossy turtles. From Maya Organic Toys in India ~ made from a sustainable wood source and hand crafted with natural dyes, it even has nice simple eco-friendly recyclable packaging! My favorite part are the details like… it looks as if they lacquered the whole sphere, THEN cut the stripes into them… and they spin simply from the friction of the little sphere “legs” rolling along! Check out the video and more close ups on the next page!

Fireworks - Happy 4th of July

fireworks0.jpg Happy 4th of July! While out at the Yuki 7 opening at Gallery Nucleus tonight ~ since i seldom venture out to Alhambra ~ we cruised around a bit, and there were 4+ of these fireworks trailers within a few block radius! So, naturally, it was hard to resist stopping at one to check out the frenzy, and couldn’t resist indulging and picked up The Nite Thriller. The packaging is quite amusing… so many crazy fonts… the plastic bag has THE PREVENTOR on it… some even have the special “Glofuze”… and with names like Crackling Cactus and Golden Shower, it’s hard not to giggle.

p.s.
They were for a good cause! Apparently TNT Fireworks are great for fundraising, and the ones we saw were for the AYSO teams.

Bamboo E-Racer

bamboocar1.jpg On fun eco-friendly toys i stumbled upon while toy shopping recently (and then had to buy to share!) ~ Check out this E-Racer (the name is also hilarious) ~ made from cut bamboo tubes, it’s cute to see how closely it keeps its form! It claims that it is “Naturally fun” and made with bamboo, water based colors, and renewable materials (i assume they mean the metal screws and the plasticy exhaust, and rubbery wheels)… the packaging was horrible, so if i ever end up gifting one of these to a kid, will definitely unwrap it first! See an unboxing and more close up pics of these adorable eco-race cars on the next page!
