Wii Strap On’s Review

wiistraponmain.jpg
Wii Strap Ons… there’s the Sports Pack” and the Combat Pack, and we’ve posted about them both (on com and .org)… well, its hard to tell what the quality, packaging, amusingly slightly altered logos (Wii or Wu?), materials, details, etc were like ~ so Jermacide bought them for our amusement… unboxing and close ups below.

Canon TX1

canontx1.jpg
Introducing my latest tech impulse buy - welcome the Canon TX1 to my pile of purse gadgets. Still in NY for Design Week, but to be honest i’ve been completely spent mentally and physically… so today has been incessant posting and enjoying the hotel room, with a minor excursion - where on the way back i stopped by the legendary B&H which happens to be across the street. I’ve never been! And i was amazed and horrified with the crammed amount of technology and lines… it was like disneyland, with a line for EVERYTHING (to check in my bag, to talk to the digicam guys, then to pay, then to pick up the products, then to pick up my bag…) it felt like a super dense overly efficient fry’s like technowonderland. And i’ve been quietly stalking and hoping to find a Canon TX1, which were supposed to be out this month, but no one has them! Even amazon is saying 1-3 weeks before shipping. So imagine my surprise when the guy behind the counter tells me he hasn’t seen them yet, but will check. And they have 3! The clerk next to him says he just checked this morning and there are none… but NOW there are three. So i couldn’t resist. (and yes, even the most serious of the B&H clerks were ready to drool over this incredible little piece of tech)

I don’t think you understand till you play with this hybrid digital camera/video TX1… its about the size of the tiny elph cameras. It is 7.1 mgp for stills with 10x OPTICAL ZOOM… and it shoots HD video. and its new physical UI is a pleasure to use, and the automatic lens cap is brilliant. And rotating lcd (so no more purse scratches for me). Not to mention image stabilization, and up to ISO 1600. Now - if only i had managed to get this a few days ago, my purse would have been much lighter (been shooting with the Digital Rebel) - and there might have been some videos… well, there’s still part of tomorrow left!

Bamboo round 2

bamboonewwa.jpg
I am sad to admit i was a bit too excited and premature on posting the minimal info that Engadget led me to on the Wacom Bamboo. (I should have known better when i saw the awesome box graphics!) Apparently Wacom has pulled out all the stops on an insane international web campaign for this one…. well, international minus the americas so far. Here are some screenshots of the various sites… europe/africa and china’s being most impressive. The flashy line drawn graphics (and overly peppy music) on black are a nice touch. They even have desktop wallpapers… with screensavers and buddy icons coming soon. Screenshots below. Fascinating to see how they alter the branding for each market.

Wii Sword+Shield

wiizeldastuff.jpg
Need to find more ways to make your Wii feel more realistic? Or more like when you were a little kid and had a battle with wooden (ok, so mine were plastic i think) swords? This new foam collection by Hong Kong based Brando were too hilarious. Sword, Shield and Knife? or is it a machete? or a curved bladed thing to swing around? So here’s a little set to help make those endless hours of Zelda more enjoyable… and red steel… and any other game you manage to use them with! via Red Ferret.

Wacom Bamboo

wacombamboo.jpg
We all have a soft spot for certain objects… on my long list are Wacom Tablets… especially in this gorgeous black, and not to mention it would look PERFECT next to the Logitech Di Novo Edge Keyboard. Saw this over at Engadget, apparently Wacom has a new tablet out in Japan, the Bamboo. Looks like a replacement for the low end tablets, but it sure is getting prettier.

Rimowa

rimowamain.jpg
On one of my obsessive design research missions - today i have been obsessing about elegantly designed functional carry on bags that are sturdy enough to withstand the elements, yet beautiful enough to not mind leaving out in your hallway. While working through options… i came across the Rimowa site and a few things jumped out that were visually noteworthy. Love the image of this case with all of the beat up stickers on it… almost enough to want to get one, stick a ton of great stickers on it, and beat it up travelling the world to get that perfectly aged effect. The Rimowa: Every Case Tells A Story Ad Spot and Making Of is just a brilliantly fast paced story that will make you wonder what your bags go through when you aren’t looking. And they even collaborated with Porsche to have cases the perfectly fit that tiny trunk space AND match your paint coat. And although their main navigation page was a bit annoying to browse, its still kind of an interesting concept as you float through the space (image below).

As for the roller carryon hunt - any suggestions? So far others that have popped up are Tumi LXT, Eagle Creek Velocity, Mandarina Duck Work and Isi, and Hideo Wakamatsu Wave, and Zero Halliburton rollers…

Lancaster Watch Camera

LancasterPatentWatchCamera.jpg
We at NOTCOT love our tech and gadgets. We love Batman and James Bond because they’re more or less just regular guys (however fictional… sigh) with awesome stuff. So what if they lived in, say, the 1880s? Perhaps they’d have this tiny pocket-watch camera (although it’s actually a lady’s watch… so maybe it’s one for Batgirl?). For some reason this just totally amuses me to no end. I keep picturing two spies hanging out, and one has this super techy tiny digital camera with satellite link up or something, and the other one busts out this antique thing. But at the same time, I gotta say this looks beautiful and intriguing. I’m sure someone spent a lot of time making it, and someone spent a lot of money to acquire it… it recently sold at auction for £18,000!Via Boing Boing.

Ripple

ripple.jpg
Ripple (beta!) - interesting idea… web ads for charity? This Australian company has set it up so that you can run ads and the advertisers donate to the charity of your choice for each view. And the whole site is quite fresh, pretty, and oh so web 2.0 ~ nice concept though. Currently you can give 6 days access to clean water, help a village feed itself, give 2 days access to education, or finance a 100$ loan for a day.

Vakaadoo Review

vakaadoo.jpg
The iPod nanos always felt like a bar of soap to me, a wet bar of soap, the type that was ready to launch out of your hand. Vakaadoo’s Soft Feel changes that to have that great slightly grippy texture, and you barely notice the case on it. (Unless you want to - by picking contrasting colors, etc.) Been playing with this for the last week or so, and actually have found that its brilliant feature i’ve fallen for is that i can attach my keys, etc to it, so while working out i don’t need to worry about various loose pieces. And the quality of the piece is really nice, almost surprising how seamlessly the front and back pieces slide together, and hold so well! More images below of what other goodies come packaged in with the case.

Blogipeligo

blogipelago.jpg
While i desperately hope and wish to be where there be anthropomorphic dragons, i fear i might be writing to you from the depths of the Blogipeligo. Yes, slightly focused on a mix of real life and intellectuals, just below the Bay of Angst and due left of the Wikipedia Project, floating in and out of the Straits of Web 2.0, and occasionally meandering the Sea of Memes (although the main Isle of Digg is down currently, the Viral Straits live on tonight) and drifting through the IRC Isles. It’s a crazy world this internets, but XKCD has managed to make quite the impressive old school Map of Online Communities. *Beware of the north/”practicals”… full map below.

Belkin Power Design

belkinpstrip.jpg
Belkin has become quite a design force to be reckoned with. (Remember their incredible booth at CES?) - well their innovative and gorgeously design power strips blew my mind this weekend. Picked up the Compact yesterday to sit on the back of the new couch (that is lower than the height of the cushions) - so its just perfectly hidden and oh so accessible - and its the perfect place for me to dock in to charge phones, cameras, laptops, etc. And when people do notice it, its gorgeous enough not to be embarrassed of. Additionally their Conceal model sleekly hides all the cables inside behind your desk (although i think this is only really good for people who set things up and dont mess with them much), and the Clamp-On is just brilliant for any where you might want to have a power strip handy off the floor (side of the desk, work bench, shelf, etc). Leatherman Pruners

leathermanprune.jpg
Leatherman - the finest in multitool design and engineering have branched out… into Pruners. And i’m impressed (keep in mind, unless flying, i am never far from my Leatherman wave which has served me so well for nearly a decade) - if i were more of a gardener or hunter i’d probably have both of these new models by now (these might be great gifts for mother’s day and father’s day which are quickly approaching). Introducing the Hybrid for gardeners and the Vista for hunters.

What do these tools have? Both are stainless steel with non slip handles, a critical bottle opener, and nylon sheaths - the Hybrid has Bypass Pruners, Wire Cutters, Weed Remover, Grafting Knife, Bark Lifter, Phillips Screwdriver, Saw, Flat Screwdriver, Sprinkler Tool, and Ruler - the Vista has Bypass Pruners, Awl, Choke Tube Tool, Flat Screwdriver, Saw, Straight & Serrated Edge, Combo Knife, Phillips Screwdriver, and Soft Wire Cutters.

Dyson DC21 “Stowaway”

dysonstmain.jpg
Although this may look like an alien face hugger… and it *could* suck your face off… This is the new Dyson DC21 Stowaway. I know you can’t possibly be Dyson’d out by now (seeing as i recently posted the extensive Slim review and my visual rant on why all Dyson’s are giant sucking guns)… so below is another gratuitous mass of imagery showing you all those intimate details of why a Dyson is unlike any other designer vacuum to date.

Order of the Science Scouts

scibadges.jpg
The “arts and crafts” badge. The “I may look like a scientist but I’m actually also a ninja” badge. The “sexing up science” badge. The “my degree inadvertently makes me competent in fixing household appliances” badge. The “I left the respectable sciences to pursue humanistic studies of the sciences” badge. The “has frozen stuff just to see what happens” badge (LEVEL III) The “dodger of monkey shit” badge. The “inordinately fond of invertebrate” badge. The “knows how to collect semen from more than one species” badge. (from left to right, top to bottom)…. THESE are some of my favorites from the Order of the Science Scouts Badges… but really they are all too hilarious (and cutely iconic) for words.

KeyPort

keyport.jpg
KeyPort - an all in one key fob… just get specialized blanks cut to match your car, house, boat, locker, etc keys and the slot right in. In the press kit it says that it is “created to complement your personal style and organize those jagged objects you can’t live without.” And currently under development are RFID for remote keyless entry (or anything else you can imagine - be creative here), Alarm Remote (for your car entry/alarms/etc), and Flashlight (mini LEDs!)… hey, where’s my usb key? Either way, i’m dying to get my hands on one to try it out, my purse could certainly use less things to get scratched up on! and it would certainly work better to slip in a pocket.
