Bubblescope

bubblescopemain.jpg
Bubblescope… bringing the 360 degree omni cam into the hands of any and everyone! This on brings me back to my UCSD HCI Lab days, where we had our omnicam strapped to the top of Infiniti Q45, capturing 360 degree video data of subjects’ drives… which were then used to process lane changes, driving behaviors, etc etc… fascinating stuff, naturally i was amused with watching the circular video footage both in circle form and after you stretch them back to normal.

But enough about that, the Bubblescope!= was over on Josh Spear and i hadn’t had time to write about it until now (with all that iphone madness and what not)… Tom Lawton is turning this into a water bottle looking camera for everyone. Now we can ALL take 360 view images… its especially fun indoors as well as capturing vast expanses of fields, etc… really fun way to completely change your perspective of a space. Point and shoot panorama’s anyone?

Bowflex SelectTech

bowflex.jpg
Bowflex SelectTech popped up on Uncrate, and while this isn’t usually the type of thing that catches my attention… their “dial a weight” system really is pretty efficient and does seem much easier than readjusting by manually adding and subtracting weights. Design wise, they are certainly the opposite end of the spectrum from those nice super minimalist nike weights… but i am certainly curious to play with these and see how their dialing mechanism works, and how secure it feels the way the weights are latched on. There are three sets, one with weights going up to 20 lbs, second goes up to 52.5 lbs, and the largest one for the hardcore weight trainer goes up to 90 lbs!

iPhone Packaging

iphonedet.jpg
Ok ok, so perhaps you’re sick of the iPhone by now, or you’re just starting to fall deeply madly in love with it, but either way… i was just playing around with the iPhone bits on my desk, and wanted to point out some design details in the PACKAGING. (and as for my take on the UI, the verdict is still out, and part of me wants to return it, although its growing on me.)

So first thing… did you notice that on top of the over dramatized shadow on the only button on the front of the iPhone… the designers actually bothered to have an actual indentation where that button is on the cover of the box? The whole phone is extruded as well, but that is even more subtle than the button… More silly packaging design gushing below.

Belkin iPhone Remix

belkiniphone.jpg
iPhone. Yes, we’ve all been inundated with the video a day leading up to launch, then launch lines, waits on activation, etc etc etc… so i’ll assume you’ve gotten your hands on one by now (seeing as hardly any stores are sold out) and have played with it enough to have a feel for what is and isn’t working with the tactile UI. So next question? What’s your iPhone wearing?

Did my rounds on on the options available and decided on the Belkin Remix Case… for now. It’s brilliant really, super sleek simple acrylic case, all clasps are optional (so when it lives in my purse its protected just enough), and when i choose, i can snap on the panel on the back with the rotating belt clasp that doubles as a stand! So yes, you can work at your desk and have it propped up for youtubing and ipoding nicely (calling it what it is, the iPhone really is just a glorified iPod with some internet/email access at this point, i’m not giving up my pearl quite yet). And you can even mount the rubbery piece somewhere to hang your iphone… (does this mean it doubles as your digital picture frame too?)

iPhone

iphone.jpg
Gah iPhone day!!! (Can you believe i held back from iPhone gushing this long?) And leave it to people to plan events on iPhone day…. SO i just rushed over to Daniel’s from the Federated Media Author Meetup on the penthouse of Hotel Vitale to gush over our new iPhones (yes we got two). The meetup was a great way to get to meet so much of the FM team/family in person like John Battelle and his lovely wife (who had the most incredible glasses we will have to NotCouture later), as well as catch up with some of the ladies from Sugar Publishing (Yum Sugar, Party Sugar!), Digg folks, Mena Trott (that this blog wouldn’t exist without), … ok and so many more, but for now, just wanted to give you the quick update, while i go find some much needed food. Few more shots of the iphone madness below… and um, i was a skeptic, but its pretty sweet.

O2’s Cocoon

o2main.jpg
Syntes Studio has done a gorgeous job designing O2’s latest phone… the Cocoon. It’s sense of subtlety of the glossy white exterior is gorgeous, and the blue LED scrolling displays are playfully simple… not to mention the way it opens to expose a dark center. Only thing more fun than checking out the beautiful O2 site and images, are the concept sketches and renderings featured on their website. Something about that pebble like sketch demonstrating how when cut open, exposes the unexpected interior, translated very nicely to the final piece. And as for technical details… well it plays music, takes 2mgp pix, etc… cutest detail? It scrolls Good Morning to you when its nested and in alarm clock mode!

Lelo Elise Review

elisemain.jpg
Latest gorgeous gadget to find its way to NOTCOT is the Lelo Elise. This is the latest pleasure object from the Swedish company, and they really do go all the way when it comes to scandinavian design details, gift worthy packaging, and technological performance… and in white, it looks like something you might find in the apple store. (The Elise also comes in a rich plum color.) Previously i showed you their Nea which was more pebble like, with the delicate floral illustrations… In the case of the Lelo Elise, “Sculptural simplicity and alluring tactile qualities define her essence. Well in tune with the natural curves of the female body, the stem forms a soft arc for easy access to all those special places.” Lots of unboxing and hands on imagery below ~

You Tube Remixed

youtuberemix.jpg
You keep hearing about how all things Adobe are coming to the web… here’s an interesting combination to instant gratification video editing by way of YouTube and Adobe Premiere Express: YouTube REMIXER (beta). Nice clean simple drag and drop UI, with the usual silly “add graphics, borders, etc” features.

Burst Labs

burstlabs2.jpg
The Discover interface of Burst Labs is mesmerizingly brilliant ~ and there’s a melody for every mood you could possibly feel or imagine, and truly one of the most refreshing flashy user experiences i’ve encountered recently. Burst Labs is the latest brainchild of The Burst Collective: which Compose + Produces Music, Licenses Music, Records Music, and now gives you an incredible multi sensory experience to browse this ambient digital music space. Odds are you’ve already heard their music and didn’t even realize it… (the list of shows has too many that i’m sure you know to even figure out which to tell you about). So the next project i do that needs a soundtrack, sound clip, or if i were to play some music here on NOTCOT, i’ll definitely be looking at Burst Labs.

i’m in like with you INVITE

iminlikewithyoumain.jpg
For one day only ~ I’m in like with you gave us an invite code (NOTC) for any of you to join their exclusive beta of this hot new “online flirting site”. And to be honest, you don’t have to go there to flirt, you can go and play games - get to know people - explore their innovative UI… after all this site is going to change the you envision social sites, and the user experience will blow you away, not to mention they are only in the first stages of it. This site has been hyped throughout the internet the last month or so, and i’ve been playing with it quite a bit (i even started a game for you to come join me and test things out).

Lost? I’m in like with you has been introduced as an “online flirting site”: with their own monetary system (points: you start with 500, and you earn more as you do simple things like login, answer questions, play games - like WoW or SL) and the interaction between users is through games ~ simple questions and challenges you present, and people bid points to play and give you quick little responses. You can wink at a user to encourage them… and at the end of the game you can pick the winner, allowing you to message them through the internal messaging or im, or even sms or call them, without divulging the phone number on either side! (Nice touch to maintain privacy). Although this is starting out with the flirting and game playing, there is a lot of potential here, and this just may become the next social site you use to browse your rss feeds, chat with friends, the usual… and then some. More screenshots below.

Palm Foleo

palmfoleo.jpg
Palm Foleo just announced… basically a streamlined laptop ideal for wifi usage on the go, or sucking internet and email over from your treo. It’s got my gadget sense tingling… i think i need one. Even though i did switch from treo to blackberry pearl and the iphone is coming out soon. GAH. Can we say technology identity crisis, so many to crave, so little time to adopt them all properly? Anyhow, the images of the Foleo (ugh, on the spelling) are definitely drool worthy, especially if the black rippled coating is that slightly rubbery feeling finish. More details below…

Cow In A Box: Dissected

cowinacanmain.jpg
Cow in a Box… how DO they get that moo in there? These have been around since my childhood, and are nearly extinct if nearly fruitless internet searches show that only one manufacturer seems to be left. So when i wandered into Stumasa today, i had to buy a few… and sacrificed one to be dissected and shared with you all… step by step walk through and video below! And no, discovering the simplicity of this old school toy’s innards does not make it any less fun, and its still much better than its technologically driven counterparts. And for under 5$, who wouldn’t want one on their desks.

wiistraponmain.jpg
Wii Strap Ons… there’s the Sports Pack” and the Combat Pack, and we’ve posted about them both (on com and .org)… well, its hard to tell what the quality, packaging, amusingly slightly altered logos (Wii or Wu?), materials, details, etc were like ~ so Jermacide bought them for our amusement… unboxing and close ups below.

Canon TX1

canontx1.jpg
Introducing my latest tech impulse buy - welcome the Canon TX1 to my pile of purse gadgets. Still in NY for Design Week, but to be honest i’ve been completely spent mentally and physically… so today has been incessant posting and enjoying the hotel room, with a minor excursion - where on the way back i stopped by the legendary B&H which happens to be across the street. I’ve never been! And i was amazed and horrified with the crammed amount of technology and lines… it was like disneyland, with a line for EVERYTHING (to check in my bag, to talk to the digicam guys, then to pay, then to pick up the products, then to pick up my bag…) it felt like a super dense overly efficient fry’s like technowonderland. And i’ve been quietly stalking and hoping to find a Canon TX1, which were supposed to be out this month, but no one has them! Even amazon is saying 1-3 weeks before shipping. So imagine my surprise when the guy behind the counter tells me he hasn’t seen them yet, but will check. And they have 3! The clerk next to him says he just checked this morning and there are none… but NOW there are three. So i couldn’t resist. (and yes, even the most serious of the B&H clerks were ready to drool over this incredible little piece of tech)

I don’t think you understand till you play with this hybrid digital camera/video TX1… its about the size of the tiny elph cameras. It is 7.1 mgp for stills with 10x OPTICAL ZOOM… and it shoots HD video. and its new physical UI is a pleasure to use, and the automatic lens cap is brilliant. And rotating lcd (so no more purse scratches for me). Not to mention image stabilization, and up to ISO 1600. Now - if only i had managed to get this a few days ago, my purse would have been much lighter (been shooting with the Digital Rebel) - and there might have been some videos… well, there’s still part of tomorrow left!

Bamboo round 2

bamboonewwa.jpg
I am sad to admit i was a bit too excited and premature on posting the minimal info that Engadget led me to on the Wacom Bamboo. (I should have known better when i saw the awesome box graphics!) Apparently Wacom has pulled out all the stops on an insane international web campaign for this one…. well, international minus the americas so far. Here are some screenshots of the various sites… europe/africa and china’s being most impressive. The flashy line drawn graphics (and overly peppy music) on black are a nice touch. They even have desktop wallpapers… with screensavers and buddy icons coming soon. Screenshots below. Fascinating to see how they alter the branding for each market.
