Jaime Hayon Works

hayonbook.jpgJaime Hayon has a book coming out! And consider it on my wishlist... as i'm sure you know by now, i love those sleek, smooth lacquered curves of many of Jaime's signature pieces, and have posted about him many a time! Launching sometime this month is Jaime Hayon Works from Die Gestalten (one of the best design publishers!), Format: 24 x 30 cm
Binding: 320 pages, full colour, hardcover, gilt edging - and it is described as:

Spanish designer and artist Jaime Hayon will be one of the most influential designers in the years to come, and this is the first monograph to present the full spectrum of his work. Ranging from clear and harmonious to playfully extravagant, all of the included examples of interiors, furniture, tableware and decorative ceramics attest to his inimitable grasp of form, style and colour. In addition to celebrated collaborations with clients such as Camper, Swarovski and Bisazza, Jaime Hayon Works contains previously unreleased personal sketches, illustrations and productions of new projects that will make its world premiere debut at the annual Milan Furniture Fair in April 2008.

It should be incredible! Check out peek from within the book after the jump... and those who are ready to pre-order, it's available at Amazon for $63 (instead of the listed 100)

AQ Hayon Collection

aqbathmain.jpg
ArtQuitect is "the pioneering company disseminating bathroom culture in Spain." This Bathtub is a part of their AQHayon Collection, by designer Jaime Hayon - an incredible Spanish product, toy, graphic designer. But this post is really to feature this AQ Hayon bathtub that i've been obsessed with all weekend. Something about the sleek black and white lines that is irresistible, almost makes me want to design a house or bathroom around this piece alone. More imagery below.

Jaime Hayon for Champagne Piper-Heidsieck

piper.jpg"July 30th Whiskey Blue at W Los Angeles - Westwood debuted a month-long Piscine experience which is complemented by an installation by world-renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayon - whose work transcends the borders of art and design. Crafted from Suryln, a material commonly used in molded luxury goods, the striking piece morphs into a satellite champagne bar that is inspired by the brand's iconic and extravagant red color. "

Is it weird that i wish i had this in my future studio? NOTCOT regulars know how i love the glossy lacquered clean modern look of Jamie Hayon's designs ~ (and am still lusting after that bath tub!) Remember his previous collaborations with Champagne Piper-Heidsieck? He created a beautiful champagne bucket and champagne bowl, and has continued the styling and colors of those pieces into this larger piece which i suppose is more like a champagne bathtub and lamp in one. The glossy quilted texture of the lampshade just keep drawing me in. See more images on the next page!

Jamie Hayon's Rocking Chicken

chicken.jpg I think i am obsessed with a large green glossy lacquered rocking chicken. Is that weird? Is it weirder that tonight i am obsessed with it because of Jamie Hayon's Lladro Fantasy Collection where he playfully mixes his designer goodness and attention to detail with the classic porcelain collectibles... But back to the chicken. It's giant. It's green. It's glossy. And i bet when you rock on it your mind fills with ideas and you get taken on a dreamy world of inspiration... or maybe thats the sleeping pill kicking in and i'm starting to fade and dream up ideas (how is it 3:30am?)? Regardless, between all the giveaways, thought you'd have fun taking a peek at the sketches and more images of the great green rocking chicken on the next page... see more at Jamie's site too!

More AQ Hayon

aqtabmain.jpg
Also from the AQ Hayon Collection, are tables, lamps, sinks, mirrors and more. There is something so gorgeous about these sleek stiletto like silhouettes that i can't stop looking at, especially in the lacquered black and silver against a matte white. And the mirror... love the ornate yet simplistic feel of all of these pieces... something strangely delicate about them.

ICFF: Conran Shop's ROJO

rojo1.jpgBefore i talk about the subject of this post... how fun is that pic above? I think it's one of my favorites from ICFF this year ~ a kids perspective - laughing/clapping at bright red styrofoam feeling "expanded polypropelene" butts/crotches of ramon ubeda and otto canalda on a tord boontje/nani marquina rug with the jamie hayon showtime chair in the background... ahhhh, icff.

From the Conran Shop's ROJO party, so far i've shown you - Foosball Tables - TAST.ES Catering pieces - Luis Eslava's velcro pieces... well, since this was one of my favorite events while in NY, just wanted to give you a peek at some of the rest of the pics! So take a look on the next page to see what other red themed spanish designs were present!

IKEA 08 Cravings

ikea08.jpgBrowsing IKEA's latest today... they've jumped on a few trends i've been liking for a while... so naturally much like the laptop station that they made 10% of the original price... funny to see that they have taken to the vinyl stickering (i had kind of expected them to get on this one sooner since its so cheap/easy to produce)... and one trend i've been loving for apt dwellers that move frequently and don't want to worry about damaging the walls, yet want to mount that flat panel tv - the floating wall tv shelves, i'm kind of liking this Stiby one above that is $500... and there is also the Benno after the jump that is a mere$120. Now for the one piece i'm really really wanting - the Trollsta Sideboard... granted the whole series feels like a cheap jaime hayon knockoff... i'm still tempted. It looks really fun to add some subtle vinyl stickers to also.... few more pieces that grabbed me after the jump!

CASAMANIA's "Philippe I" coffee tables

barontable1.jpg Still working my way through lots of milan pics, and had to share this one ~ aren’t they lovely? Sam Baron, the current Art Director of Fabrica (Benetton Group) has created the beautiful Philippe I coffee table for Casamania, made of lime-wood, MDF and walnut finished in white lacquer with transparent glass top/black lacquer with mirrored glass top. Sweet and reminiscent of Jaime Hayon’s style legacy at Fabrica…. take a peek at more pics on the next page!

Lladró Parrot Party Collection

lladrobirds10.jpg It was absolutely breathtaking to see the Lladró Parrot Party Collection in person (They launched in January at Maison et Objet). They are spectacular, and they truly capture those moments of curiosity, intrigue, and playfulness parrots are known for… and the pairing with such modern yet simple shapes and colors, mixtures of matte and glazed glossy porcelain goodness create such fascinating contrasts. This is apparently the first collection in the Lladró Atelier concept, “a world of new experiences in porcelain under the guidance of Jaime Hayon, conceived to showcase the creative potential of the brand’s designers.” As a contrast to the usual press photos, and while i still insist these are worth seeing in person if possible ~ take a peek on the next page of how incredible i found the details and lifelike character of the Parrots!

p.s. So far when asked what my favorite thing is at ICFF ~ this is what jumps to mind!

Bd Barcelona Tout va bien

bd1.jpg The Bd Barcelona Tout va bien ~ a collection by Antoine + Manuel. While wandering ICFF, i was immediately drawn over to e Bd Barcelona for the Jamie Hayon Showtime chairs in new colors... and then mesmerized by this new cabinet! Being human, its near impossible to not attempt to make a story out of random snippets ~ personally i initially assumed it would be some crazy myth or fairy tale... but the woman at the booth informed me it was far more fantasy and artsy and no real meaning... but fascinating details none the less...

Bd Barcelona describes it as: "Rarely does a graphic designer (two, in this case) go into the field of furniture design. We have to go far back in time to find them, to the times of the high and low reliefs. This is exactly what Antoine Audiau and Manuel Warosz have done, a couple of extraordinary Parisian graphic artists who sign their works as Antoine+Manuel. The cabinet they have designed for this new collection brought out by Bd Barcelona design is a surprising mixture of applied arts, hieroglyphic language, contemporary graphics, fantasy and optimism. It is produced with the quality of yesteryear but using today's technologies in two versions, Basic and Top, distinguished by the shape of the top and because the more exclusive option also offers the possibility of choosing the colour in accordance to the RAL colour referentes."

Check out close ups and press pics on the next page!

Lladró at ICFF

lladro.jpgIn case you haven't noticed, i seem to be fascinated with edgy/twisted porcelain incarnations lately... Catching my eye - then sucking in all my attention - at ICFF was the Lladró booth - while i've long loved their work, their hiring of Jaime Hayon (i actually met him at the show! and he was incredibly nice... and i was a bit in awe and rather tongue tied) as creative director, and their Re-Cyclos Magical Forest Collection really had me paying special attention to them the last few years...

At their booth, the first thing to pull you in is the new fiberoptic/porcelain chandelier with leaves (much like the Niagara Chandelier with the fairies), and seeing how the fiberoptic strands were attached to the porcelain leaves was fascinating (as was the lighting itself). Next the Re-Cyclos tea set where the legs of a bowl were all porcelain horse heads, the napkin ring made of horse legs, the handles on the cups and mugs were horse legs as well! Really in description it sounds far more bizarre than the result, the juxtaposition was really quite beautiful (see the pics on the next page). Also fascinating were the porcelain boxes that have what look like barbie and ken faces pressed into them (complete with makeup for that dash of color), they actually turned the molds used to create the figured into the boxes themselves, in a stark matte porcelain and a gold interior. As you can see, its really not the usual collection of porcelain collectibles you'd expect, and really they seem like a fun match for some pieces over at the Designboom Mart, like the Blaue Blume Tea Set.

Lladró ~ for a company that i grew up knowing for beautiful traditional porcelain pieces, you fascinate me with every part of your evolution. I never expected a bizarre and edgy collection quite like this from the 50+ year old company, and love it! More pictures from the booth on the next page!
