Beauty in Technology post series sponsored by Samsung’s new LED TVs! Final post in this series exploring random beauty in technology, NOTCOT style. Let me just take a second here to say a huge THANK YOU, SAMSUNG. As you may have noticed, they are doing quite a bit of sponsoring here on NOTCOT, and they've been making some impressive leaps and bounds on the design side of their tech lately ~ so it's been an honor to work with them, and have them support what i'm doing here! (Especially when they let me help do it MY way, have it look fun, and basically just further enable me to write about what i love!). So, Samsung, if you're listening, thanks for that. You guys have been amazing. Now on to that lustworthy porsche i've been drooling over for about a week...
I kid you not, i've been a bit behind and traveling, but since i laid eyes on that press release, this beauty has been open in my tabs, and every time i start getting a post together i get distracted by how cute it is... So on to the facts: Debuting at the Frankfurt auto show this month - 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic. Limited to 250 pieces, the Porsche Exclusive team has been fine tuning this one for 3 years - "Porsche Exclusive is Porsche's Specialist Department for the most outstanding customised versions of Porsche cars going beyond even the highest standard of the Company's regular production models." So are you ready to see more drool inducing pics and the full press release? Check it out on the next page... video too!
I know, we're not supposed to propagate the beauty myth that thinner is better, but i just can't stop walking into the room, and pausing for a moment to look at how ridiculously thin this Samsung LED TV is! As i mentioned before, while working with Samsung on this sponsorship, i fell in love and bought one! And in all honesty, it's been amazing! Beyond the little pebble remote i showed you ~ my dad even remarked that it was "frighteningly clear", which i completely agree with - you almost feel like you can reach out and poke the people in the tv! (who are definitely larger than life on the 55").
But on the tech side of it ~ its just gorgeous ~ ridiculously thin (Wunderland War Monkey Assassin will help give you some scale... especially compared to my previously thin panasonic)... seriously its the kind of thing where it may actually be thinner than some canvases i have hanging... talk about that future where we'd have moving pictures as hanging artwork? AND widgets! the UI on these Yahoo! ConnectedTV widgets for things like twitter and youtube are just stunning... See the pics on the next page!
It's been such a fun challenge finding things to share for this Samsung sponsored post series ~ running around my life finding unexpected inspiring beautiful tech details i may not have normally noticed or thought about that are in my every day life... today i'm excited to share the Rickenbacker 350/12V63 Liverpool 12 string electric guitar with you! (Also awesome? The color is called "Jet Glow") John Lennon, The Byrds, and Tom Petty were all known to play Rickenbacker... and really what grabbed me was the way the tuning machines are attached to the head without looking too crammed, even when there are twice as many as usual! And really it's just such a stunningly gorgeous machine ~ check out the pics on the next page!
This series has quickly evolved into an excuse for me to find beauty in the unexpected and tech related. Be it Retro Radios, Worry Stone Remotes... or even Fishing Reels? While not the first thing to jump into your mind when thinking tech ~ it's been fascinating to see how technology has changed that space, while the electric reel isn't nearly as pretty as i think it could be, it's certainly interesting. And has its huge waterproof charger port too. But as i looked at that one and was taking pictures, i quickly got distracted by the beautiful fonts and logos and other little details on an array of reels! So for this third beauty in tech post ~ here is a close up look at the details of fishing reels that caught my eye and inspired me yesterday! See the images on the next page!
Remote controls - they come in so many shapes and sizes, yet i'd never seen one quite like the extra mini pebble one that came with my Samsung LED TV. (For full disclosure - Samsung's LED TV campaign is sponsoring this post series, but they in no way knew that their ads got me looking at the new TVs enough to love it and buy one... and make the pebble remote the subject of this post! So perhaps this is less a conflict of interest, and more of a convergence of interest?)
This tiny pebble remote has a jeweled center piece which for the 7 series is blue, and the 6 series is red. It is mesmerizing how it subtly sparkles in the light... and the weirdest thing is how nice the small indented pebble shape feels in your hand, it actually reminds me a lot of those Worry Stones that originated in Ancient Greece - thin oval pieces of stone that are held between the thumb and forefinger with the thumb in the indentation... and the rubbing is said to help take your worries away. Basically its hard not to rub this remote as odd as that sounds? Now as far as practicality, it only does power, volume, and channel, so its the opposite of the huge remote that also came with the tv, but nice when you just want the basics. Unfortunately the channels don't work for my DVR, so its a bit useless, but i just love the what the design looks and feels! Isn't it about time we take more steps away from the traditional grid layouts of remotes? Take a look at more images of the pebble remote on the next page!
Samsung has their new LED TVs out ~ you've probably seen the ads just starting here at NOTCOT, and i have a new surprise to show you related to that soon (more to come when i can share!)... but all you need to know for now is that Linhchi and i have been closely getting to know the hummingbird in their ads the last week, and i kind of love it, even as much as it spreads quickly from tv ads to our online ads to magazine spreads and more... I just spotted the advert at FEED and they highlighted that the CG was produced by NY based 1st Ave Machine who has done some very awesome work worth checking out. So, happy saturday, and enjoy this gorgeous CG spot ~ its like a crazy iridescent hummingbird with insect like wings and a mesmerizingly drippy gooey quetzal like tail?
