Click the images to see more!. Mmmmmm. Cinnamon Rolls. Ok this weeks roundup ~ i wanted to give you guys a little insight on how hard editing submissions can sometimes become. When i started TasteSpotting, the vision was to create a gorgeously drool worthy space filled with delectable delights... and we were excited to have ANY submissions at all. But as with all things, evolution is inevitable... and scaling, necessary. So as the visual/designy side of the site (and yes, we all know i'm quite the newbie when it comes to food)... trends have become even more apparent on TasteSpotting than any of the others lately, and it's put editing in a hard place. For example... this week, EVERYONE seems to be cooking delicious cinnamon rolls! 5 of the posts are up there, and even more were in submissions that didn't make it up... this is where it is no longer a problem about whether the image and post are things we love, but whether it is interesting and stand out enough as a Cinnamon Roll post. Because as you can imagine, a front page of 30 cinnamon roll pictures isn't exactly what people come to TasteSpotting to see. Other trends? Last week mooncakes were showing up in full force. Then there was the heirloom tomato trend before that. Pomegranates have been popular lately too. Basically when a trend organically appears, we try not to let it take over the site TOO much, and the standards tend to raise on that theme. Anyhow, i just wanted to let you all know, and see whether people had any ideas or opinions on how we should handle this. Our goal is to showcase some of the most beautiful and interesting selections of links daily to whet your palate... how do we handle the possibility of having TOO MANY posts a day? Is there such a thing?

So here is a pile of delicious looking pictures i loved from TasteSpotting to inspire you to go hunt and forage for some gorgeous delectable delights this weekend.
i-delicious is the portfolio of illustrator Lesia Chernish, and it's just that delectably delicious that it feels like a perfect blend of NOTCOT and TasteSpotting's passions. I must admit i've tried hunting for more information on her, but she only seems to exist on her site: i-delicious! A few more of her pieces that i love below.
Sauces 'n Love ~ my recent packaging discovery at the market... although not the ONLY reason i purchase something, its definitely big on my first impressions, so i grabbed this Sauces 'n Love Tuscan Vodka Scarpetta, and was pleased to see that they come in these nice Re-usable screw cap plastic containers that are microwave, freezer, and diswasher safe! Also nice clean typography on the label ~ and its "Healthy 'n Love - Gluten Free. Vegetarian. No Sugar. No Preservatives. Low count on Carbs, fat, and choesterol." And the best part ~ this sauce was incredible. So fresh and delicious. Mmmmm... Close up images of the labels and container below!
Click images to find out more! Here's more deliciousness to kick off your week. Looking at my picks after the fact, looks like chocolate was looking particularly enticing... also the way that nutmeg looks like a brain is a bit of a trip. And can you believe that bottom row, second from the left is Brownie Tiramisu? Or Tiramisu Brownie? Either way, interesting idea.
LaLaLand presents Hot Lunch! A series of metal lunch boxes - complete with matching thermoses! And you can't imagine how much i wish i was a kid and needed one of these suddenly. My four favorites are from Shag, Bigfoot1, Amanda Visell, and Kristi Gushiken's Can Cam! More views of these below. View the full collection at LaLaLand.
I can admit it - as much as i love fine cheeses and crackers, packaging still sways my purchasing... luckily this time it paid off. Came across these Fine Cheese Company Crackers at Faletti's which are imported from Bath, and the boxes have gorgeous imagery and typography. Above are the Sea Salt and Olive Oil (absolutely delicious to munch on plain even) and the Rosemary Crackers. Below i also have pictures of the natural and charcoal crackers with simpler illustration and typography on the box that is worth taking a look at. I also found the Charcoal Crackers visually interesting, being black they look really nice in contrast with white cheeses.

Ok, on odd fixations for the night, i remembered an old OLD post on travel chopsticks (dan actually even bought them)... and they were silly and complex? As shade elaine and i wonder... they aren't really that much lighter, or take up that much less space... why do you need them? where are you bringing them? Well... i googled travel chopsticks and we were the first hit... so i browsed more, and apparently the travel chopstick options have come a long way! So below are 6 awesome options i've found to meet your travel chopstick needs. Trust me, they are quite impressive design objects... esp for such a simple instrument.
Click the images to see more. Ok, yes, that IS an iphone on TasteSpotting... its showing off 101Cookbooks.com's iphone ready site. But seriously, being in giddy hungry TasteSpotting mood today, here's a taste of what's been showing up over there lately for anyone that hasn't checked in to get some culinary inspiration.
Our little TasteSpotting is growing up fast! Freshly submitted to TasteSpotting: the Debonair Magazine Food Blog Awards. And we're totally blushing over here. Honored to be given "Best Food Blog Directory", which i guess in some regard we can be considered a blog... and a directory... although personally i never really thought of us as either, but more of something that had a few characteristics of each. Anyhow, i digress. We're listed with some of our favorites - a few being: Chez Pim, Nordjus, Chocolate & Zucchini, Midtown Lunch, 101 Cookbooks, Eater, and more!
What is one to think when your favorite candy company comes out with an incredibly gorgeous line of absinthe products... with some of the most breathtaking graphics and packaging? Chic City Rats pointed out this collection, and noted that Torino based, Pastiglie Leone is turning 150 this year! (If you're feeling nice and seeing this in france or italy, send some over!) Far more pics below...
Click the pics to find out more. Happy Monday! For all your food cravings, here are a quick 5 picks from TasteSpotting that were visually inspiring to me today. We've got real belgian waffles, cock crests, yao tiew (chinese donuts? although i grew up having them be savory in porridge), fresh ravioli, and some fresh springy pasta.
Click the square to find out what it is! Same deal as the .org roundups, except its dinner time PST, so if you happen to still be (over)working and forgot to get food yet, here's a little something courtesy of the incredible food community at TasteSpotting to whet your appetite, or inspire your inner chef.
Every now and then, a series of images comes along and just blows your mind. I couldn't stop laughing, and then just kind of staring amazement at the micro scale "cooking" going on here ~ my friend is calling them Freebase Pancakes. How one even comes up with a concept such as this amazes me. See full set of imagery below. via Random Stuff
Ahhhh Chipotle, how we love thee. Yes, we have a bit of a Chipotle addiction going over at NOTCOT... we jest that there is crack in the rice (don't worry, to the best of our knowledge there isn't, just some sugar and cilantro) because since the college days in SD we keep coming back for more... even if it is efficiently run by the mcdonalds folks... Not to mention they have just great graphic design, and playful marketing.
Here's a quick roundup testing out some new adventures in coding... all image maps, so click away up there to test out some of this weeks goodies on .org and TasteSpotting... everything from whiteboards evolving into gorgeously framed frosted glass, more diy print+cut toys, magical undo (crtl+z) cream, princess cake, baked pancakes, and rolled lasagna...
I've still yet to come to a conclusion on whether casting something in silver makes it really valuable, but i do still love what bittersweets has been doing with cocktail swords and vampire teeth (my unofficial jeweler of choice). However, there is something so playful, yet purchasable about Theo Fennell's silver for condiments... from Heinz sleeves and caps, to Marmite caps... even a redbull sleeve! And my personal fave the Haagen Daz sleeve! (as well as others, as can been see in the pics and the site).
Happy *belated* Birthday, Helvetica! Check out this incredible cake that Matt Michaluk and friends made.... absolutely gorgeous, and making me a bit hungry this morning... more images here. And a MUST SEE video of the cake eating in action below... (via Swiss Miss!)
