Freshly back from adventures in downtown LA, with our excuse being the Unique LA VIP night ~ which was honestly a bit bizarre ~ lets get the weirdness out of the way first, most vendors less than friendly and not quite prepared, meh music, and a strangely super bright spacious layout ~ BUT, that being said, still found some really fun randomness i'm super giddy about, and it was an awesome excuse to finally meet up with our winter intern, Alyssa, in person finally after all her help keeping me afloat with the gift guides, giveaways, and coupons ~ and finally check out The Association (that new dark, moody, retro cocktail bar ~ delicious!) and grab a bite at The Standard... random animal sightings: massive rat trying to climb its way out of a trash can, and a mouse darting towards the car and into a drain....
Things i'm most excited about and possibly worth getting over to Unique LA for this weekend? Imaginary Friends Inc. with the gorgeous nature inspired prints, cards, clothes, and more... has a secret stash of overprints to pick from (you can see an example above, and a few more scans below)... and i'm trying to convince them to make more woody ones (also see below!)... Designer Poptarts from Cake Monkey ~ yum! The meringue samples were yummy too. I Heart Guts did not disappoint, adorably cuddly innards and really cute sticker packs (see scans below!) ~ anyhow, see pics of some other finds and an overview of some of the what you'll find there!

"A Young Mad Scientist's First Alphabet Blocks" laser etched wood blocks from Xylocopa ~ when first spotted as .org #16975 ~ there was that instant "OMG! Must see closer!" and then the frustration of not being able to see the illustrations for every alphabet, while teased with the list of what each letter stood for... so i bought two sets... and a "mystery item" (how can you resist?)... and it is SO AWESOME!
Granted the blocks are a little smaller than i'd pictured in my mind, the detail is incredible... best use of a laser engraver ever perhaps? And i magically ended up with an Angler necklace, as if they knew it's exactly what i wanted... SO, i've taken the time to photograph each and every letter of these blocks for you on the next page, in anal alphabetical order even... check them out, and long live the young mad scientists!

Wow. So i'm sitting here completely mesmerized, conflicted, fascinated, and DYING to pop out ALL the rings. NOW! So far my self control has kicked in and i only popped out the first one for the sake of showing you and photographing it... and sandpapering... and ok ~ so here's the deal ~ basically i'm totally obsessed with By:Amt's latest: Stainless Steel Ring A Day.
It comes with 7 rings and a piece of sandpaper ~ the rings are in these adorable polished stainless steel cards... that you can pop out, or not. That you can disconnect, or not. That you can wear all at once, or not... See? It's overwhelmingly awesome and conflicting and exciting all at once. It really doesn't help that once you pop the first one out and slip it on your finger more ideas start racing, and you can't stop wearing/playing with it. I think this just jumped up onto the perfect gift list... as long as you pick the right size. Think about it ~ for $99 to get 7 rings, or 7 necklaces, or 7 rings AND 7 necklaces.... it could be one amazing gift, or you can even split them up into 7 precious stainless steel rings for your bffs.... or the coolest gift tags on presents? Or if you're a planner, i guess you could really do one ring each day of the week, but who has that much self control? They could even be rings + awesome shiny iconic chrismukkah tree ornaments!
Anyhow, you get the point, Ring A Day = awesome gift with way too many possibilities. Also looks great on as a ring. So check out more pics on the next page, and i think i need to go pop out all the rings now! Will update with a pic in a few...
Oh! And don't forget, if you order this you also get to choose a free diamond ring! See the coupon on the next page...
UPDATE! As promised, i went and popped them all out and sanded and took a few more pics ~ jump to the new pics...

When it comes to luxurious pleasure objects, Lelo has always been at the top of my list... they are not only incredibly well made, but gorgeously designed and packaged as well. And that was my opinion before they launched their Luxe collection, which has taken some of their classics and brought it to a whole new level. Three of their products (Earl, Yva, Olga) are now available in Gold and Stainless Steel, packaged with a satin pouch in a lush glossy wooden box... In fact the Earl Gentleman's Plug even comes with matching gold or steel cufflinks!
TO WIN: Leave a comment here ~ tell me a feature you wish your mac had! ENTER BY 12/13. WINNER: Matt in Portland, OR!

It is a smidge larger ~ and comes with a few more cables...

Alex & Chloe ~ here's a close up look at their packaging and some of their products... basically, i kid you not when i told you we love the people/stores/brands we're supporting with the coupon book and giveaways! I FINALLY gave in and got the Solitaire Inverted Diamond Ring! And i'm totally smitten with it ~ Alyssa, Linhchi, and I couldn't resist giving in to a few other pieces too! Including my other favorite, Alex's Chill Pill necklace, which is my new reminder of how overworked 2008 has been, and to cut back and focusing more on fun crazy projects (2009 will be awesome!).
So beyond close ups of the items, i also wanted to share their packaging with you!!! We are definitely kindred spirits in our aesthetic choices ~ i swooned when i saw their black on black cards and boxes ~ i love gloss black on matte black... wrapped in black tissue... sealed with a logo sticker... So take a peek at it all on the next page, as well as a look at their freshly launched t-shirt collection!
I think i've found the perfect stocking stuffer for kids!!! Or it's what i'll be resorting to when i need random little gifts, that are not only really fun and amusing but educational and awesomely packaged! Copernicus Toys is a wondrous playground of all the fun sciencey toys and gizmos and puzzles i loved as a kid, and they've recently launched this great line of Compact Curiosities! Adorable packaging ~ nice clean fonts/graphics/colored labels on the translucent 4x6" pouches... definite points for the shiny object factor...
And it gets better! Inside these packets are old favorites from Monster Balloons and Vortex devices (you know, the ones you put between two 1L soda bottles!) to dissectable Owl Pellets and Geodes to crack open! Also incredibly affordable ranging from 3$-12$ (most are 3$-6$)! See closeups of the whole line on the next page!
Ok, calling this a wishlist probably isn't fair ~ in reality, you have to understand that everything i ever post is stuff i am obsessively loving... and everything in ANY of the gift guides is pretty much like my wishlist or my *already have* list... Additionally, just want to take a sec and say ~ OMG Gift Guides are really hard this year! And slightly less fun! It feels like there are far less (if any) true *IT* gifts, those big ticket toys or tech items that everyone has been counting down the days until... technology and gadgets in general are disappointing for shopping (hence my really really delayed electronics/gadget accessories guides i keep wavering on posting)... tech this year as far as bigger ticket items really feels like all upgrades ~ cheaper TVs, better priced deals on console bundles, upgrades of cameras (and the ones i'm dying for are all back ordered), it's just not nearly as fun! Also, you've got to understand last year's gift guide is still totally applicable for shopping, most of that stuff is pretty timeless, and i ran through years of archives and obsessions for that one! So not having repeats from last year has been a tough one! =) You can still browse that here! That's why this year's gift guide feels a bit more silly and playful! Anyhow, been wanting to tell you guys that! Also ~ it's been a blast doing so many giveaways, and really all the giveaways are like super gift guide features of stuff i'd totally gift someone... hence, giving it away to all of you!
Ok ~ but that being said, there is still tons of random stuff that has been fascinating and tempting me ~ so here's a super random list of stuff i've been wanting (or have bought ~ like the Fusion Pool Table!!!! Counting the days till that shows up at the new house! yay!) or tempted by in one big silly random collage with no real theme... Browse the madness on the next page and click to find out more info!

Ok, Marcia, you win. Best birthday surprise ever ~ mysterious creepy flower guy tapping on the glass door ~ card in handwriting i can't recognize with just a "Happy Birthday Jean. Here's to another year of fun!"... signed Marcia? But it looked strangely more like Maria? (Florists! You need better handwriting!) And then there's the flowers ~ awesomest mix of orchids, roses, moss, and.... WTF is that really awesome hairy ball? Do i have to feed it?
Sooooo that turns into an adventure calling the florist, who of course says they know nothing and got the order through the internet... but does say that those hairy green balls of awesome are... MONKEY BALLS! And then a few more back and forth emails, Marcia confirms it's her, but the florists calls her to confirm she can tell me her name, and then calls me back as Marcia emails me to say the florist called... in between all of that i shot a bunch of pictures of this incredible bundle on my desk to share with you.
I'm also currently googling Monkey Balls, which is not coming up with many things that look at all like this... anyone got a scientific name for these things for me? Enjoy the pics on the next page! And Marcia, thanks again!!! SO awesome, best way to get me to stop working and get totally giddy... hehe. THANKS!
UPDATE: Jump to pics of the opened up balls!
NOTCOT Note: Here's a special collaborative gift guide between NotCouture and Revolve Clothing ~ aka i put Linhchi (NotCouture Editor) and Michael (Revolve Founder) together and let them go to town with their gift guide inspiration and collage away some fun ideas!
This guide's for the stylish folks in your life. It can be tough to shop for them, so here are some ideas to get you started! (And yes, many of these things I want for myself... even some of the guys' stuff!) Check out the full guide on the next page, as well as a Revolve coupon for 25% off!
Finally! An artist's twist on the usual city tourist t-shirt ~ a much classier more exciting gift for those who didn't get to go... Starting today, 3 limited edition t-shirts will be available at The Standard Hotels in LA, NYC, and Miami... Andre Balazs has commissioned three contemporary legends, Natas Kaupas, Eric Haze, and Jose Parla to design these t-shirts for their respective cities, and only 1500 of each design have been produced! When first described to me, i wasn't sure what to make of it, but upon seeing images, it is gorgeous black and white typography bringing out the feeling and culture of the cities ~ and especially when seen together you can really feel how different the vibe is of each... not surprising my favorite is really the LA one, NYC next... and for designs which are so blatantly screaming out the name of a city, they feel more like artwork than branding. Also adorable? The red pouches sporting the artists signatures that the t-shirts come in!
So check out the shirts and more about the artists and this collaboration on the next page!
So first i started laughing, then i started wanting it.... how bizarre are these Picnica reusable shopping totes that... you stuff into a bunny! So when you use it the bunny hangs out on the side! Definitely one way to stand out in a farmer's market, distract a child (in bunny form), or make those baggers do a double take...
I just found it over this hilarious reusable bag at our friends at Greener Grass Design ~ PICNICA TOTE BAG by Japanese design house, Eding:Post... also hilarious, Message Tote Bags ~ those, as you can guess, stuff themselves into speech bubbles with text like "Thank you" or "I'm Sorry" ~ see more pics of the rabbit totes and the message totes on the next page!
TO WIN: Leave a comment ~ talk to us about power! ENTER BY 12/10. WINNER: Will in Encino, CA!
Remember when we first discovered the Belkin Conserve Energy Surge Protector with the giant switch at CES? Well Belkin was nice enough to offer one for give one away to one lucky winner! My favorite part of this is still the awesome large switch ~ which is even wall mountable so you remember to turn it off when you leave the room... but the concept is really brilliant, some things you need to leave on (clocks, routers, etc), some things can be turned off regularly (chargers, monitors, etc)! So this Belkin Conserve Surge Protector will help organize what i imagine to be your pile of tech behind your desk, etc... and to help conserve and cut back on your electric bill too! I know this might seem like an odd gift, but i totally want one! And there's something nice and energy efficient and playful about it... not your usual power adapter! See more pics and info on the next page! And to win it ~ leave a comment telling me something about.... power!
TO WIN: Leave a comment ~ sharing your favorite childhood toy! ENTER BY 12/9. WINNER: Karen in NYC!
StrangeCo ~ the wondrous purveyors of the peculiar ~ and probably one of my favorite toy distributors of all time ~ so many awesome collectibles and amusements that live under my monitors, and i love that in the last year or so they even made the move to truly making toys for all ages with fun plush toys for young'ns that are of awesome quality and really fun designer characters (i.e. TokiDoki, FriendsWithYou, Somewhere City)... definitely been my go to for kids presents when i'm at a loss...
SO, today we're giving away a set of their latest, a nice mix for all ages! In the bundle are:
- Mr. TTT - Rainbow ~ the awesome plushy FriendsWithYou creature that comes apart to amuse and delight kids

TO WIN: Leave a comment ~ Tell us about your favorite shiny object! ENTER BY 12/7. WINNER: Peter in Salisbury, NC!
Yay! We're up to NOTCOT Holiday Giveaway #18 already, and i've been going nuts sitting on this one, dying to post it... so here it is! Incase sent over a special VIP Boxed set of Metallic iPhone 3G Slider Cases!!! (Actually they sent over 2, one for reviewing, and one for the winner, so don't fret, that winner's is still perfectly untouched!)
The packaging, is, as always, AMAZING. So fun to unbox, and the cases are just gorgeous. I've been drawn in further and further by the whole metallics trend the last few seasons, and it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. I'm sure you've seen them on their site, but in person, the colors are better than i expected. Metallic finishes can be tough to photograph, so many times you end up finding them so different in person, but there are that perfect slightly matte just metallic enough without causing car accidents with the reflection, and easy to grip... and they look GORGEOUS on the iPhone ~ i stole dan's iPhone and kept switching cases and comparing them with nail polishes and outfits... Hardest part is really picking between the colors... so luckily Incase has made up a boxed set of four for one lucky winner: Silver, Gun Metal, Gold, and Copper. I tried to pick a favorite, but i just can't. So, to the winner, if you feel generous you can share with your friends, but i wouldn't blame you if you hoard them all for yourself and switch them with each mood/outfit/nail polish color... I even compared them to the Chanel Gold Fiction and Kaleidescope colors... see a full unboxing on the next page!
To win? Leave a comment about your favorite shiny object... (and no, if you don't leave a relevant comment, you're not in the running!)
UPDATE: Baxter of California is offering NOTCOT readers a 20% discount on all products using the code NOTCOT in the Coupon Code Section ~ good for 48 hours only ~ ends Sunday Dec 6th, midnight PST.
Oh, Baxter of California, always with the fun silly surprises... because of you, i just ate mini gummi bears for breakfast! and you brought me back to when i was a tiny tot and my mom used to give me those mini haribo gold-bear packs!
Soooo, here's a packaging look at the fun textured, textual matchboxes and Flammable candles of Baxter of California... first time seeing them in person, i must admit the "Jasmin Noir" scent filling my desk really is quite divine... but its the gummi bears... and the way the big bold text wraps around all sides of the boxes that really grabs me... you have to see the pics on the next page to see what i mean...
This guide is partially for pets, partially for green thumbs, partially for nature enthusiasts, and really just a scramble of nature inspired/related amusement floating around my lists! Click the products to browse the next page as usual!
