Click the images to see the posts! I think i might have a new weekend tradition of rounding up the most popular from the week on TasteSpotting! (or at least i'll try this out for a little while and see how it goes!)... from faux sushi to foccacia, its been quite a drool worthy week as usual!
Click away on the 100 tiny pics to see more! So as you've seen from the last two posts, i'm clearly playing with the best New Year's present ever ~ a new chunk of code to play with that Dan gave me so i can make some crazy automated roundups (versus the ones where we handpick some of our favorites) ~ and this is visualized data even we have never seen before now! ~ for the sake of transparency ~ i haven't quite figured out how to find the perfect measurement of "popularity" ~ someday it will become some finely tuned algorithm balancing click throughs, votes, reports, time its been up on the site, etc? But for now, these are my test creations ~ and this one is 100 of the most popular posts of NOTCOT.org for 2007!
Also on exciting new features to look forward to in 2008, we're hoping to find some better ways to let you make use of the "votes/nice/delicious" buttons across the sites... would you be interested if we let you save the ones you liked so its easier to filter the now thousands and thousands of posts? sort them? group them? make your own little collections? We've been bouncing lots of ideas around, and now that dan is working with me full time, we're really hoping to have some fun in the design/development dept for 2008! Happy New Year, and thank you so so sooooo much for supporting the sites!
p.s. b/c i couldn't help myself below is a super crazy tiny top 1200 ever on .org...
Click any of the 100 tiny images to find out more! In light of 2008 already being upon us, and the first year of TasteSpotting now behind us ~ dan wrote up a new toy for me to create some new roundups playing with popularity of posts! So what were some of the most popular delicious links of 2007? Explore above to find out! Happy 2008!
Click the images to find out more! While most other blogs seem to be taking some time off for the xmas/new years week, once again i might be doing the opposite and posting even more frequently in spurts... holidays never really play out to be the happiest of family reunion times, so i'll probably be mentally escaping into my love of design, products, and in this case... cookies! Been playing with the idea of baking, and i can't decide whether its because i feel like making something or whether all those tastespotters are getting to me with their cookies, cakes, and other delectable goodies this season! So here are more that are leading me into temptation... those top left Irish Coffee Brownies are calling out to me right now!
You're running out of time! For all the xmas shoppers out there ~ good luck with the crowds and madness in the real world. It seems like you only really have today left to be ordering online where you can still cross your fingers and hope for it to show up with
Santa Mr. UPS and/or Ms. FedEx by xmas day. SO here's an insane collage of all 30 gift guides to date... with over 350 items. *phew*. Last one drops tomorrow!
Click the images to find out more! Sorry i've been a bit quiet lately ~ the gift guides are hard! But been working all weekend to get some really fun ones ready for this week... we're into the final 5 days today! So here's a roundup, and i should be back to my usual posting madness in no time!
Click the cookies to find out more! Mmmmmm there are quite a few trends that surface on TasteSpotting and lately my cravings seem to think that it is officially cookie baking season, whether for gifting, for pleasure (yours and theirs), for kids, for family, for friends... So here are some delicious posts that have been showing up to inspire your inner baker.
Click the images to find out more! Since i am a total slacker and i decided to take the day off and drive down to LA from SF... then have more fun prepping some packages and gift cards for mailing (SO fun!) instead of scouring the internet for some posting, or actually downloading and cleaning up some photos off the dslr... in order to avoid the back to back gift guide posts, here's a massive roundup of buy-ables from .org! First thing i will definitely need to do once tagging and better categorizing and all that classification related stuff gets sorted out - a tag for things we can buy... instant personal catalog to make gift guiding and shopping (for both me and you!) much easier.
Seeing how its already Thanksgiving, it seems improper not to show some food on the site... so here is a roundup to help inspire any last minute Thanksgiving cooking - as found on TasteSpotting. Click the pics to find out what, how, etc... and happy Feasting!
Click the images to see more!A quick catch up for anyone who's behind on .org... we've had some adorable dino hoodies, quite the dare to make an impact, an insanely loud funky looking airhorn, an xkcd romantic fight manifested into a real OS wiping virus/poem, puma and W's "mongolian bbq" DIY show, a town filled guinness domino chain, an incredibly fun looking couch, lipstick portraits... and then some stories of romantic quests! The guy who drew a sketch looking for a girl he saw on the subway (and he FOUND HER!) and Zack Slow and his buddy letting US choose who they will marry (and give $50,000 to).
Click the images to find out more! So many inspiring and intriguing posts up at NOTCOT.org it definitely felt like a good day to have a slightly larger roundup. I'm sure with most people busy fiddling with leopard installs... and a few unfortunate ones dealing with the painful blue screen of death on a MAC... (is it the end of an era? So sad that the quality of products and design are continuously becoming less and less satisfying!)... anyhow, for those who are swamped, but want a quick digestible bite of what's going on at org ~ here you go!
Click the images to see more! WOW. So that first pic is the Sony Bravia commercial for Egypt... they tossed more spools of thread down than i can count, and it is an incredible sight. While the bunnies were cool... watching that much thread come spinning down the side of pyramid just made my jaw drop... much like the bouncy balls and the paint! Anyhow, here are a few NOTCOT.org goodies to help you catch up/kick start the week. Happy Monday!
Click the images to see more! Here are some of my personal favorite from NOTCOT.org ~ those laptop sleeves by Working Class Heroes actually made me give in and register on Etsy to buy two... (more on that soon probably, they are my obsession of the night having just gotten back to LA from Philly). Also Marian Bantjes post on her latest work: the Saks Fifth Avenue "Want It!" Campaign... is the most adorably inspiring post i've seen in a long time, not to mention the work itself is incredible. Her calligraphic pieces showed up in everything from emails and brochures, to window displays, carpets, and 3d sculptures.
Click the images to see more!. Mmmmmm. Cinnamon Rolls. Ok this weeks roundup ~ i wanted to give you guys a little insight on how hard editing submissions can sometimes become. When i started TasteSpotting, the vision was to create a gorgeously drool worthy space filled with delectable delights... and we were excited to have ANY submissions at all. But as with all things, evolution is inevitable... and scaling, necessary. So as the visual/designy side of the site (and yes, we all know i'm quite the newbie when it comes to food)... trends have become even more apparent on TasteSpotting than any of the others lately, and it's put editing in a hard place. For example... this week, EVERYONE seems to be cooking delicious cinnamon rolls! 5 of the posts are up there, and even more were in submissions that didn't make it up... this is where it is no longer a problem about whether the image and post are things we love, but whether it is interesting and stand out enough as a Cinnamon Roll post. Because as you can imagine, a front page of 30 cinnamon roll pictures isn't exactly what people come to TasteSpotting to see. Other trends? Last week mooncakes were showing up in full force. Then there was the heirloom tomato trend before that. Pomegranates have been popular lately too. Basically when a trend organically appears, we try not to let it take over the site TOO much, and the standards tend to raise on that theme. Anyhow, i just wanted to let you all know, and see whether people had any ideas or opinions on how we should handle this. Our goal is to showcase some of the most beautiful and interesting selections of links daily to whet your palate... how do we handle the possibility of having TOO MANY posts a day? Is there such a thing?
