OH! So, i LOVE StrangeCo, and the other day Jim sent me over a pdf of the upcoming Pete Fowler Monsterism 4: Pets & Owners collection, and i'd been meaning to post it, but... well anyhow, the HP Toyrama reminded me, so here it is! These little guys will be coming in special cylindrical pet food cans - and both pet and owner will be in there! (I can't wait to see the finalized packaging!) But for now, take a peek at the adorable pairs and their stories below. My fav pair? Hattie & Mr. Pasty: "Being a natural born beach kid Hatti likes nothing better than doing nothing."

This one goes out to all the Monsterism fans out there ~ apparently Pete Fowler has teamed up with HP and created HP Toyrama. I just spotted this over at StashMedia Feed and started making silly little movies. Far too fun and nicely done flash stop action movie making where YOU TOO can animate some Monsterism creatures... and win things. (LOTS of screenshots below of you're short on time.) According to the press release:
Singapore, Aug 2, 2007 – Embarking on magical adventures is not just for Shrek-like ogres and furry animals from Over the Hedge anymore as HP kicks off a unique contest that invites digital animators across Asia Pacific to create, design and direct short, animated skits using high-performance workstations and graphics tools.
Christened the HP Toyrama Contest, this online competition developed by Arc Worldwide Singapore challenges the best digital content creators in the region to create innovative and rich multimedia stop-motion animation starring five toy characters named Sancho, Farm Girl, Ranger, Jogger and Green from Monsterism Island, designed by cult toy designer, Pete Fowler. The contest has two categories – the Open segment, for enthusiasts, amateurs or students with a passion for animation; as well as the Professional segment, for the more proficient animators.
Just when i thought the Insurgent Wilderness Gruppo couldn't get any more enticing... they add Series 6, the IWG Baby CUBS! Each one will come with a sharp stick, marshmallow, and eyeball. Hehe. Also there will be FOUR additional Special 100 pc Editions of each character, including baby Nanook, son of Peary! Can't wait, and they were too cute not to share.
This is a random LEGO intermission ~ it's been a quiet design week... and it the majority of emails i send result in vacation auto-responders... so its just that quiet leisurely time of year! So here are some random lego pics from a today's stop at the Lego store. So here's my $1.50 duplo dragon... and below are the crazy angler and divers (complete with glow in the dark fangs, scuba masks & flippers, and spear guns!)... and the Star War's Legos magnets and tetris magnets... (the secret of how they stick is a bit disappointing sadly - they just jammed magnets up their legs... and with any hair/helmets/backpacks, they have to lean off the fridge/white board a bit)... anyhow - go take a break! and play with some toys! I forgot how amusing/calming it can be to sit and build some legos... and then take it all apart and make something completely random with it.
Love Blows. Stressed Out. Ciao Ciao. Not feeling so well in bed today, and not finding anything that takes my breath away (other than all the goodness that you guys are finding and contributing to .org!) So here are three fun little somethings that are new at Kid Robot that sum up today so well.
There's a scavenger hunt afoot on the web and you've just found a piece of the puzzle. Ok, confused? Well read about the details at Mimoco. With SD Comic Con coming up next week, Mimoco will be launching its nine new Core Series 2 Mimobot Art Toy USB Flash Drives, and i'm proud to announce the first one below - so, meet Psy! This adorable cyclops of a flash drive has an adorable reptilian (or dino?) like look that will definitely keep your data safe. So there are 4 Psy Mimobots for you to win... one through the scavenger hunt (more details below), and three from NOTCOT! If you'd like to win one of our three, leave a comment with your idea for a great new USB device/toy/creature, and i'll pick three winners on July 25th (which is the end of the scavenger hunt, and the release of all 9 new Mimobots!)
Gloo Man (and WOman) ~ From Pixels to Paper, Just Add GLOO! Business in the back, party in the front? Or vice versa depending which side is facing you... These guys have officially taken the bored at work paper toys to a whole new level... you can customize away online, and out comes the pdf. Then cut and paste your dual personality character and *poof* instant amusement. SO. CUTE. Let's just say when your office runs out of magenta ink... hide your army of Gloo Persons.
Latest gorgeous gadget to find its way to NOTCOT is the Lelo Elise. This is the latest pleasure object from the Swedish company, and they really do go all the way when it comes to scandinavian design details, gift worthy packaging, and technological performance... and in white, it looks like something you might find in the apple store. (The Elise also comes in a rich plum color.) Previously i showed you their Nea which was more pebble like, with the delicate floral illustrations... In the case of the Lelo Elise, "Sculptural simplicity and alluring tactile qualities define her essence. Well in tune with the natural curves of the female body, the stem forms a soft arc for easy access to all those special places." Lots of unboxing and hands on imagery below ~
Cow in a Box... how DO they get that moo in there? These have been around since my childhood, and are nearly extinct if nearly fruitless internet searches show that only one manufacturer seems to be left. So when i wandered into Stumasa today, i had to buy a few... and sacrificed one to be dissected and shared with you all... step by step walk through and video below! And no, discovering the simplicity of this old school toy's innards does not make it any less fun, and its still much better than its technologically driven counterparts. And for under 5$, who wouldn't want one on their desks.
While perusing ToysREvil we found this toy and had to share. I love toys with cracked out faces that make me laugh out loud. Whaleboy is the creation of illustrator Patrick Morgan, and the comic that the toy is based on is being pitched to Nickelodeon to possibly become a cartoon! Reminds me of Ren & Stimpy and Spongebob a bit. Oh and the best part? He apparently has a sidekick named "Sucka", one of those little sucker/cleaning fish! Too funny and cute. If you wanna get your hands on one of these guys check out whaleboytoy.com.
What happens when toys go save the world happy? DOMA's Acid Sweeties toys for Kid Robot. "From Argentina, where suave desserts and happy pills keep company with nauseous oil barrels and 3-D lightning bolts, street art and design collective DOMA firmly plants one foot in reality and the other in psycho-tropics. Acid Sweeties, their first mini figure series, is an absurd medley of happy colors and bright characters."

This is a limited edition "opus football table" by Eleven Forty for the super exclusive 20LTD. Only 20 were made ~ and it retails for 14,500 pounds. We previously featured Eleven Forty back in June '05. See the team's lineup below...
Svan Scooter ~ the perfect mix between the scandinavian sleek bent birch and playful scooter... it took everything in us not to jump on that and roll around barkar hangar. The one odd (or perhaps brilliant?) detail, was the use of what looked like office furniture casters for the wheels... now if only they'd make a larger one that could be used as a desk chair/studio transportation.
Nodders ~ you know, those silly things that bob their heads in cars? Well i've never been a huge fan, but this extensive and bizarre collection manufactured by B. Shackman Company is impressive... from poodles and german shepards, to hippos and lobsters... Also available at Rose and Radish.
Endorphins are the feel good hormones... you know you love em... they give you that happy high. And who would have thought that you could sculpt them out of resin for a similar effect? Well the pictures made me smile enough... but i just received the sweetest package from Dave Pressler today with a set of 4 Endorphins from his latest show at Munky King ~ and as much as i love collectible toys, i HAD to open one... its living just below my monitor next to my mimobot... and in reality ~ that grin is even more contagious than you can imagine, when you can actually hold them in your hands. Big thanks to Dave, these endorphins gave me just the energy boost i needed today!
Rayman's Rabbids in combination with the Wii changed my life. (And now there is also a wii off to change Pres Rodriguez's life out in Florida ~ CONGRATS! to our wii winner). That being said, anyone who has yet to experience the insanity of the Rabbids on the wii, get to it! So, i finally did a mini shoot with my vinyl Rabbids... and they were too fun not to share, more below.
Only thing better than classic surrealist/pop art... and legos... are surrealist/pop art made of legos, in an exhibition, with drunken lego wander around the gallery. Although not new, Art Craziest Nation ran at the Walker Art Gallery in 2005-2006 - by The Little Artists (John Cake and Darren Neave)... and i just found it on my latest lego addiction, Brothers Brick. Above are some of my favorites ~ Dali's Lobster Phone ~ and Warhol's Money. Few other fun ones below...
One last one for the lonelier or more playful Valentine's Day people... OhMiBod turned up on .org a week or so ago, and we were intrigued. And conceptually its really pretty brilliant ~ basically its a vibrator that takes audio input and vibrates to the rhythm. For all your concert going kids, you know that feeling of standing right next to the sub? Now imagine taking that vibration you feel and concentrating it into this device... and aiming that wherever you please.
So two days before Valentine's, this box shows up containing the OhMiBod, the pink garter, the 'softskin sleeve', and a t-shirt. (unboxing images below) They've got some nice clean branding and packaging ~ and even provide itunes' playlists for songs that work especially well.
Chinese New Year AND Valentine's Day right around the corner... stopped by the Munky King 3rd Anniversary and CNY party in Chinatown~ and welcoming in the year of the pig, they even had limited edition trading card sized glicee prints by Luke Chueh, Thomas Han, and Amanda Visell. But what really caught my eye was the PlasticGod Buddha... love the hands. (also found a video of it on youtube below!). Adorably cute store in the middle of one of the chinatown plazas which are really getting far more hipster filled relative to the old school chinese restaurants and stores i remember as a kid. Lots of pics below to give you a feel for the space...
Manuella's elephants and bunnies (also ducks and dogs exist).... brain child of Merav Flam, graduate of Bezalel Academy for Art and Design Jerusalem... and i'm smitten not only by these creatures, but also by the motivation behind the line... "With children in mind, her unique designs reflect her own longing for childhood without digital and electronic toys... 'Manuella' - is reminiscent of the mechanical system that was used a long time ago to operate dolls, musical boxes, and toys." Now if that doesn't hit you somewhere in your laptop toting, cell phone attached, wii loving being... i give up, go buy your kid an Ugly Doll.
But i have this habit of always shopping for kids toys (some of which admittedly i end up buying myself) ~ and having a few products in mind for all of those last minute baby showers that keep popping up, and to find the perfect gift is hard, but it will be hard to go wrong showing up with one of these Manuella Elephants.
Just in time for Valentine's Day ~ FORM 6 ~ the latest in designer vibrators from Jimmy Jane. Waterproof with cordless recharging (check out its handy dock below), a seamless coat of silicon, varying digital vibration modes, and engineered for sound isolation... but really, its got some gorgeously sleek curves.
No it doesn't vacuum, unless you program it to do so. But this one goes on the list of launches i read about before i got to CES, and was still impressed enough by it that i needed to post it after playing with it.
iRobot Create. I was quite a fan of the give your hamster wheels ~ as in it runs in its ball, and that drives the Create... and the robotic arms are pretty fun too. In a nutshell, the folks that brought you the roomba, unleashed a streamlined programmable version, basically the ideal starting point for future engineers, programmers, robotics geniuses everywhere...
AND not a bad deal for $99! (use coupon code 'createces' to save 30$ off the usual 129$) ~ and for normal roombas, 20% off with code 'ces222' in the iRobot Store.
If there's one thing i learned this christmas, it's that you cannot leave RUGenius alone with a printer and internet access all alone in oxford tending to her lab. After the amazing cardboy calendar, she proceeded to find lots of other "print, cut, + build" toys on the internet and filled the lab with them (and my inbox with fun pics of them). So this one is for her.
