Bleijh- 10.09.07

subchairs1.jpgNOTCOT Note: Here’s another article from Anna Corpron of Sub-Studio!

There’s not a lot of info on Bleijh’s website, but from what I can gather, Basten Leijh is a Dutch product designer whose primary goal is to create user-driven products (some of which appear to be in concept phases at the moment). I love the simplicity of the work - clean lines and forms, with function given primary consideration (though the products don’t look so bad, either). I covet the Fruitbowl - my beef with so many similar products is that they take up so much space on my counter top when not in use. It would be great to compress the bowl when I’m done with it.

The Xcetera table - simple and functional with an innovative leg form. The Chairtable is super cool, too - a table and chair in one! Great for compact living. I wonder what they would make the outer surface of the chair/table out of. If it’s too rigid, it would make for an uncomfortable chair. If it’s too soft, it might not make a stable enough table surface. What material do you think would work?

Hi,

the material of the chairtable is carbonfibre, flexible in one way (soft) but very stiff in the other…

greetings Basten Leijh

ps: I want to get the fruitbowl asap in production…: )

I love the fruit bowl!

Because of the way the chair is constructed, only the back side of the back panel would have to be really stiff for it to be used as a table. This could be accomplished with inner reinforcement along that panel which wouldn’t affect the comfort of the chair. That said, I don’t know enough about materials to speculate what might be used.
