Mixed Beauty

fashiontest.jpg
YOOX is an international high end online retail store, but beyond the Gucci, Prada, D&G, many international publications are hailing this digital space as a “place full of wonders”, even Vogue called it a mystical place. But what captured me, is their bizarre mixed cover images, combining physical beauty with digital, perhaps “futuristic” outfits, which are completely mesmerizing. Take a peek at the other covers and their other “special projects” ranging from video to robots.

Micro Maps

micromap-rw.jpgThis seems like an interesting solution to the larger not so purse/pocket sized maps when travelling. Found at Rocketworld this playing card sized deck, creates a whole new way of approaching, or pocketing information. While its an idea that seems to be going towards a Sidekick utilizing Google Maps, i suppose this is a handy backup for battery or signal death?

WACOM No Cables!

deskwork.jpgWacom launches a Bluetooth tablet (in Japan). Finally! Looks like it even comes with its own adapter for those without. I hope this means its a matter of time before we get one launched to the rest of the world. I’m all for lessening the amount of cables produced/carried around in our ever increasing tech driven lifestyles. More info in Japanese here. Via Gizmodo.

Woody-bots

robots.jpgAnything that starts with “click the magic monkey to enter” must be good… and Bjorn Berglund’s site is! Check out these awe inspiring wooden/styrofoam robots… The leading Monkey and TVbot after the jump.

Plasticly Adorable

bunny-slug.jpgNot all things posted are new, but simply things i hadn’t had a chance to share with friends earlier. Take these bunnies and slugs… been around for a while, and this adorable french bunny radio just couldn’t be forgotten. Or the Candeloo slug capacitive charging nightlights (with bellybuttons! or mouths!). Perfect for kids and playful adults alike. Find them at Plastica.

La Fraise

tees.jpg By now most people are familiar with Threadless, but not nearly as many reference some of the fun submit-art tees at La Fraise. The prices aren’t too bad, the art is fresh, and the site is pleasantly refreshing with eye-catching icons.

P.S. Did you find the hidden headphones on their page linking to a soundtrack for secret agents on the prowl? And don’t fret about your french skills, if needed, do like i did and have your resident francophile help you register so you can vote and purchase happily. (more of my favs post jump)

P.S.S Great blog on the site as well, with some images of behind the scenes of your home run online art tee shop.

Interactive Polaroid?

moving photo.jpgI don’t know what to make of this, but it’s simplistically pretty. Click, and move, and play with it. Your clicks and motions distort a 2003 image of Vietnam perhaps. It feels as if you’re intoxicatedly stumbling through a world of bright lights, or looking into a puddle as raindrops splatter? RobCorradi.com

Spray Stool

spray.jpgThere’s an inexplicable appeal i have to this one. I think it reminds me of those old library stools that you sit/climb on or just nest yourself upon one in a corner of shelves with a good book.

Imagine this stool taken a step further? I’d want it in black. With rubberized gripped edges. Perhaps the ability for a built in airfreshener, or SOMETHING to give you an auditory/haptic feedback implying spraying? Maybe some hydraulic seat action? so you spray when you initially sit? Thanks Mixko, for making me think.

Mixko Lamps

lamp.jpgThe idea here is so thought provoking and brilliant. Same end result, causing you to rethink the way you went about getting it. (you get LIGHT either way. but when coupled with a plug, that usually implies electricity) Here you literally have a plug candle “holder” and no more. Now the plug works to provide lighting in any situation.

A few more visually provocative lighting solutions below…

Cuffed by Time

watch.jpg Today is a Mixko OO (object oriented) day. I love this idea, of changing the way people see both high end branding (Gucci) and the linear approach to time ruling your life… they are ultimately handcuffed to you, or you to them rather. Poetic. Deserving of a post of its own to make you think.

Knirps: My X1

main.jpgREVIEW* Yes, this one’s personal, the storms that came literally ripped my previous umbrella apart, well that and possibly my super human strength as my friend claims. (it bent, completely, yes the staff/frame part) So the hunt was on.

KNIRPS: das original. The inventors of the folding umbrella. German quality at its finest now revamped with some nice design. (and thanks to mocoloco posting this a few months ago, it stuck in my head). The external case that is purse exterior friendly, and the sheer size, not to mention design quality makes it a must.

It took a bit of work to research all the options of how to get one of these (more on this after the jump). So go see European-umbrellas They are some of the nicest people, and by the time you take off VAT (tax of nearly 20%) and add some airmail shipping, your price is about the same as if you had flown out and purchased one there yourself. They also provide some great video footage of a German man teaching you how to care-for/use your umbrella.

LOTS of imagery to follow, from historical to the umbrella’s themselves. Definitely worth a look-see.

Tray6 Rain Gear

tray62.jpgIt’s been raining again here. To the point where umbrella’s are becoming a neccessary accessory to people’s every day, and the attempt to find the best quality and least mundane (with a sense of class and edgy twist) is not a simple matter.

Tray6 claims to be “giving makeovers to objects who have lost their oomph”… and focusing on “breathing life into forgotten objects”. Yes, basically a design group who is making umbrella’s fashionable and outfit matching. The refreshing greens, pinks, blues, and browns available are a breath of fresh air in a dark greyish world of rain.

So here’s the one that matches notcot’s background. A few more colorful images post jump. Also, ‘luckymag’ at checkout will get you a nice 30% discount.

Crazy Clothes Folding

folding tee.jpgOk so I’ve always wondered what the right way to fold clothes was. Maybe it’s all those years of obsessive origami training. This video totally blows me away though.

For all I know this is an old trick, but it’s totally made my day.

Box Lighting

light.jpgSometimes the best things in life are… cheap. Urban Outfitters in Santa Monica, CA today, found this great Parcel lightbox lamp that comes with many sheets of alphabets, numbers, and symbols you can place between a the two layers infront of the bulbs. For a mere 14$ its a steal. ON-OFF-FLASHING is always amusing as well…. (see more pics after!)

iPod X GAS

meets03.jpgBeen posted before, but rediscovered in a hunt for the perfect iPod case: GAS graphic designer cases. Vol. 1 (perhaps this implies more to come.) So far imagery from Adorn, So_Me, Genevieve Gauckler, Kuntzel & Deygas, Will Sweeny, Mooog Yamamoto, Mask, The Boo’s, Ben Sansbury, and Perks and Mini. (If you don’t know at least a few of these its time to do some graphic design catch-up!)

Take a look at the images below to see how design of the actual case, it has a top flap that comes down over a black covering for the click-wheel ipods. It looks to be printed on a canvas type material.

Pics of my favorites after the jump as well as far more information and links. Grazie mille Jermacide + Hello-Friend
