Bamboo round 2

bamboonewwa.jpg
I am sad to admit i was a bit too excited and premature on posting the minimal info that Engadget led me to on the Wacom Bamboo. (I should have known better when i saw the awesome box graphics!) Apparently Wacom has pulled out all the stops on an insane international web campaign for this one…. well, international minus the americas so far. Here are some screenshots of the various sites… europe/africa and china’s being most impressive. The flashy line drawn graphics (and overly peppy music) on black are a nice touch. They even have desktop wallpapers… with screensavers and buddy icons coming soon. Screenshots below. Fascinating to see how they alter the branding for each market.

Wii Sword+Shield

wiizeldastuff.jpg
Need to find more ways to make your Wii feel more realistic? Or more like when you were a little kid and had a battle with wooden (ok, so mine were plastic i think) swords? This new foam collection by Hong Kong based Brando were too hilarious. Sword, Shield and Knife? or is it a machete? or a curved bladed thing to swing around? So here’s a little set to help make those endless hours of Zelda more enjoyable… and red steel… and any other game you manage to use them with! via Red Ferret.

Wacom Bamboo

wacombamboo.jpg
We all have a soft spot for certain objects… on my long list are Wacom Tablets… especially in this gorgeous black, and not to mention it would look PERFECT next to the Logitech Di Novo Edge Keyboard. Saw this over at Engadget, apparently Wacom has a new tablet out in Japan, the Bamboo. Looks like a replacement for the low end tablets, but it sure is getting prettier.

Mixko at ICFF

mixkodmain.jpg
On designers i’m excited to be seeing at NY Design Week ~ Mixko is high on that list. Their works have shown up here a few times (ok, 6 times to be exact)… from the butterfly rings, to handcuff watch, to the football bowl… and so much more.

So what do we have here? Other than the adorable designers themselves? Whippy (the awesome ice cream cone inspired lights) was a collaboration with Jeremy Scott for an installation at Colette in 2006. and i LOVE the Atari controller candle holder, brilliant piece for a gamer’s housewarming. And the Rain Cloud and bone china Skull Ring are just too adorable… large images below.

Get Knu

getknu.jpg
On going eco ~ here’s another interesting line of furniture Knú from Industrial Woodworking Corp, which will be available in Sept 07. They are calling it “Inanimate motion in crisp, sustainable form.” My first impression on the line, is eco-toontown feel~ something about the bubbly curvatures that makes it feel more playful than i would have expected, evoking a younger/retro kind of vibe.

And on the green front: here are the details… designed by Bradford Davis - the pieces are produced from sustainably harvested wood products, assembled with 40% recycled post-consumer waste steel hardware and is manufactured in an energy efficient facility that recently went 100% carbon neutral.

Absinthium

absinthium.jpg
What is one to think when your favorite candy company comes out with an incredibly gorgeous line of absinthe products… with some of the most breathtaking graphics and packaging? Chic City Rats pointed out this collection, and noted that Torino based, Pastiglie Leone is turning 150 this year! (If you’re feeling nice and seeing this in france or italy, send some over!) Far more pics below…

Rimowa

rimowamain.jpg
On one of my obsessive design research missions - today i have been obsessing about elegantly designed functional carry on bags that are sturdy enough to withstand the elements, yet beautiful enough to not mind leaving out in your hallway. While working through options… i came across the Rimowa site and a few things jumped out that were visually noteworthy. Love the image of this case with all of the beat up stickers on it… almost enough to want to get one, stick a ton of great stickers on it, and beat it up travelling the world to get that perfectly aged effect. The Rimowa: Every Case Tells A Story Ad Spot and Making Of is just a brilliantly fast paced story that will make you wonder what your bags go through when you aren’t looking. And they even collaborated with Porsche to have cases the perfectly fit that tiny trunk space AND match your paint coat. And although their main navigation page was a bit annoying to browse, its still kind of an interesting concept as you float through the space (image below).

As for the roller carryon hunt - any suggestions? So far others that have popped up are Tumi LXT, Eagle Creek Velocity, Mandarina Duck Work and Isi, and Hideo Wakamatsu Wave, and Zero Halliburton rollers…

Lancaster Watch Camera

LancasterPatentWatchCamera.jpg
We at NOTCOT love our tech and gadgets. We love Batman and James Bond because they’re more or less just regular guys (however fictional… sigh) with awesome stuff. So what if they lived in, say, the 1880s? Perhaps they’d have this tiny pocket-watch camera (although it’s actually a lady’s watch… so maybe it’s one for Batgirl?). For some reason this just totally amuses me to no end. I keep picturing two spies hanging out, and one has this super techy tiny digital camera with satellite link up or something, and the other one busts out this antique thing. But at the same time, I gotta say this looks beautiful and intriguing. I’m sure someone spent a lot of time making it, and someone spent a lot of money to acquire it… it recently sold at auction for £18,000!Via Boing Boing.

Hooks and such

anthropologiehooks.jpg
Remember before i was hunting for coat racks and such? Well, i just noticed these over at Anthropologie… playful and interesting colors and curves, there’s something about a fleur de lys in bright bold colors that is fun to look at (not sure if i could imagine putting these up though) ~ but the lines and curvature on these were mesmerizing today.

Lower Hater

lowerhater.jpg
Lower Hater - sometimes the simplest things can be endlessly inspiring and amusing… yesterday it was the Lower Hater gallery/store in - yup - Lower Haight, that opened in late Nov 06 and is on the corner of Haight and Steiner (if you’ve been down here, you’ve probably noticed the great window displays). Something about the smoking pigeon brings a smile to my face, and enamel pins with animal logos seems to work well (particularly in lower haight, remember the Doe Pin?)… adorable gallery, and some really fun art - currently they have quite a few pieces from NOTCOT favorite: Ben Collison!

A View To Kill

mmviewtokill.jpg
Mrzyk & Moriceau have an incredible show on at the max lang gallery in NY - “A View To Kill” runs from April 26 - June 1, and they were kind enough to send some incredible pictures over to show you what you’re missing. But first a quick note: on top of the many reasons (i.e. black and white, great dark/witty imagery like Penguins with Guns, great use of white walls and gallery spaces, that they send me mysterious emails) i already love this dynamic duo… they name most of their solo shows after bond films. (i played through every bond film in order in the background when crunching for my master’s thesis project…)

“A View To Kill” features new works and a large-scale installation that will incorporate pieces by Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, among others… so click on and see just how breathtaking it is.
