NuLooq

nulooq.jpg
This is the Logitech NuLooq, i have been trying to figure out how i missed this when the press release came out a few months ago, but none the less - here it is. For photoshop junkies like us, and those who need new ways to interface with their tech. I’m curious - have any of you played with it? and the new ToolDial?

Its an interesting new USB/dial/touch sensitive scroll/zoom tool for designers aimed at easing the constant tool switching we do while chained to our large monitors. My main curiosity is regarding the use of this tool while working, and how intuitive it really is. The physical design of this product reminds me a lot of various projects i worked on during my masters program - and the ability to combine various layers of dials/wheels for zooming and panning simultaneously intrigues me. So posting this as a physical interface worth playing with as a case study, and might need to buy it just for this reason! And i haven’t even begun to discuss the idea of the ToolDial software/dock interface they’ve designed to match as well. [More details below]

Just noticed the Amazon page for it and the reviews seem surprisingly good. As for ToolDial, just downloaded the demo, and its actually kind of nice… will try it out for a few days, but off to get some 3:30am sleep now.

Computer that Hoops

cmopthathoops.jpg
Was wandering and hunting my way through the hot sneaker blogs, and found this Adidas ad campaign that was pretty slick. Their graphics and music i’m used to being pristine and mind blowing - but this time the content grabbed me too… a visual history (morph?) of our best friends today… desktops/laptops - shoes? Go watch the film here.

Soft Service Cont’d

Ok, you know how i am when i fixate on a design, especially packaging. On Soft Service, how sweet is the vacuum packing? So here’s a teaser, hands on review coming soon perhaps…

Soft Service

softservice.png
Emails are great, especially when they brighten up my day with submissions of things i crave. Anyone else getting tired of the t-shirt trend? Or the abundance of designer tees around every corner? I love them to death, but have been noticing i’m wearing more and more black tshirts in different materials and cuts lately. It may also be that i have a temporary aversion to the silk screened ones this week from the t-shirt printing this weekend.

None the less, i digress. Emails! SoftService’s Sale turned up in my inbox, and i’m smitten and curious. This LA guy is doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that - and end results are hand painted sections with embroidered outlines of our everyday. They say “/unique/limited edition/hand painted/hand embroidered/sweat-shop free/made in Los Angeles//” I say, cute! and just different enough right now.

Target + Red Cross

targetredcross.jpg
You know you’re a designer when… you want to buy a First Aid Emergency Preparedness Starter Kit because of how great the packaging looks (and also the 10$ donation to the Red Cross). But seriously, Target impresses me repeatedly on so many levels. And for those of you who don’t have fully stocked cars of preparedness, get on this.

Wemoto not only has some amazing boards, pillows, beer, and clothes, but i can’t stop staring at this booth display for the Bright Skateboarding Tradeshow.

Melbourne Art Fair

artfairmain.jpg
Giant bunnies! Lucy Feagins gives us another dose of the art scene in Melbourne. The Melbourne Art Fair is a biennial event showcasing contemporary work from Australia and the Asia Pacific region. It used to be called ‘The Affordable Art Fair’, but this year the more palatable AU$1000-$2000 price tags of previous years were a little few and far between… so it’s probably a good thing they re-thought that.

What hasn’t changed is the fair’s emphasis on commercial art – work that sells. Which I guess makes it a more accessible arts event than most. Close-ups below.

Hunting Traps

beartrap.jpg
With the assortment of gold and silver dangerous and pop culturally inspired jewelry, Toy Me has a new twist on it… my favorite being the Hunting Trap Bracelet. You never know when you might need one? They also have some cute skateboards, guitar jacks, sneaks, cowboy toys, lego inspired bracelets and earings… and the best part? Playful set of flickr pics featuring toys… bear traps AND itchy and scratchy? Toy Me just made my night. [i love High Snobiety]

…. oh and check out these cufflinks.

Concrete Jungle

concretestuff.jpg
The furniture collection by Metrofarm makes me feel the need to rethink my definition or implication of “concrete jungle”. There’s something extremely appealing about the harsh, cold, smooth edges of these pieces that is a unique blend of street meets modern. From dj decks and benches (they blend wood/concrete nicely) to custom kitchens, its an inspiring collection. [These are the guys who brought you Koi Klub that has gotten a few posts at .org lately]

Golden Porsche

gilded-porsche.jpg
Been a saturday filled with fighting with my now basically dead crapbook ~ transferring and cleaning up files to the macmini so i can post and work from it, so needed a silly post to cheer me up. And then found this golden porsche that just made me smile. Perhaps less because it was gold, and more watching the pictures and imagining how much time it must have taken that man in the pictures to cover the porsche one gold leaf at a time. Currently on display at Schmuckwelten, a jewelry museum in Pforzheim, Germany.

ThisNext is Growing

thisnextpots.jpg
Sticker marketing - Lots have tried it - ThisNext is taking that to the next level. The basic concept is that when you love something, you sticker it - but unlike those Coolhunted and Lucky Magazine (yes/no/maybe) stickers - these work digitally (you can add your own text blurb and one of these stickers will appear on your product image) as well as physically (see below for pictures of the just released ThisNext stickers). They are about shopcasting and picking the best products you use/want/love. For those of you who pay close attention… this is the side project i’ve been writing for and official launch is coming, but not quite yet. So be patient.

Blossom Pendant

blossom01.jpg
Falling in love with these. Something clean, classy, romantic, and fresh about them. Simple sleek dress with a plunging neckline, and this around your neck? Something about plucking flowers that feels so dead, having that little bit of water seems to help feel like its more alive… or i guess you could even plant a little seedling in there… so many options. So beautiful? … but yes it does evoke memories of that VW Beetle vase, and the whole test tubes as vases craze. Also by Izik Levy, and only 36 Canadian Dollars.

[If i were actually thinking about weddings and such, i think these would make great bridesmaids pieces.]

Its the end of the world… dinosaurs, paint barrages, gas masks, and giant squids from the deep… I don’t think the deer are going to make it. (l-r, 966, 963, 959, 953, 956)
