On daily internet rants

Not a review, not a post of more things you want to buy, just a question. On daily post sites/blogs/rants. Are there rules to this? I mean anyone can get some webspace, find an engine like Moveable Type, and hit the web running with content, ideas, images, absolutely anything. So is there an unspoken code for newbies? Proper do’s and don’ts? For example Patrick Bennett commented today and asked why i hadn’t emailed him about posting about him, am i supposed to? Email everyone i talk about?

Also on content. I read a lot of sites, blog like, art like, friend’s randoms… so i tend not to repost things i find, as much fun as they might be… all the other sites seem to do that enough themselves. Should i be? Showing you the things that intruigue me?

And on feeling late… so many things i have/use end up blogged on other sites which starts that possibly competitive “i had that ages ago” feeling. Should i post all i find as i find it? … examples that craiglist rentals+google (BRILLIANT), the silly egg timer mom gave me a few months ago, Tiger launch, gheehappy’s indian gods on boing boing today after i posted about it?

So just curious, as readers, browsers of the internet, fellow daily posters… whats the proper code of conduct? or is this back to the wild wild west, and the rules themselves are just beginning to evolve?

100! - Make Believe

enter.jpgOOhh new weezer album? Although i’m not sure about that “beverly hills” song… weezer has always been somewhat amusing, and around since the early 90’s, and still function as my feel better driving cd’s. And at least now there’s a chance at hearing some of the new stuff at Coachella…

… and on another note, this is my 100th post! which feels like i need to celebrate… and it also so happens to be Vegas’ 100th Centennial as well. So while not my celebration, but another 100th party, not to mention FREE… Red Hot Chili Peppers and Weezer in Vegas on July 2nd… not sure how to get tickets, but it says to come back to the site on April 18th. Happy 100th! (to notcot + vegas + hope to see you there!)

YETI hat!

yetihat2.jpgSO cute in that weird funny “must touch” sort of way. This is the Yeti Hat from Creature Co-op (also found at Alt Press Expo).

Be the shy, reclusive, but potentially ferocious Yeti in this hat. Part snow bunny, part sasquatch, wear this fur and polar fleece hat and you’ll blend in perfectly with the locals.

With a full collection of playful (yet scribbly) creatures in the forms of hats, bags, plushes, and more… they are a delight to browse through. For kids of all ages? From the creators:

Creature Co-op is the creative cooperation between Rachel Chow, Jason Carpenter, and our friends and family. We started Creature Co-op in 2004 as a hobby to create cute yet dark plush friends with strongpersonalities. Some of the creatures are very dumb and bump into things a lot. Some of them are crazy. Some are dumb and crazy, but very, very sweet.

Little India

brahma.jpgIt’s not easy getting to know all your ancient Indian gods and godesses these days, but with Sanjay Patel’s illustrations it certainly makes it fun. I found this CalArts trained Pixar animator at the Alternative Press Expo in SF this weekend, just as he was getting his booth together, and his colorful posters and cute its a small world/herculean happy characters drew me in. Lisa Alisa

LA1_101.jpgAlthough unsure on my thoughts of the japanese pop fetishy pre-pubescent naked asian girls with flowing black hair large eyes and strange sea creatures or cartoon characters mixed with big guns, happy suicides, blood-fests influencing art recently (read: post-superflat vector-like j-pop art). There is still something kind of fun to these. Wandered Lisa Alisa’s gallery… and through her drawings and pop sections… i know its too easy to simply look at the thumbnails, but take the time and look at the little links.

[p.s. i think i have a thing for tentacles lately. and more imagery post jump]

Dream of Stars

findyourroots1.gifToday art is my drug of choice. Surreal enough to get lost in, open enough to let your imagination run wild a little, not too far beyond your reach to encourage the creator/artist within. The work of Emily St.Clair is also fulfilling all my little obsessions of the moment, incorporating the amazing flowing/curling organic nature of hair, nature itself, Art Nouveau, and 60’s and 70’s patterns. Besides she’s an artist/designer who’s currently working as a baker at a vege cafe in Colombus, Ohio. (even if that is due to the economy, i still think sometimes the best inspiration comes from the strangest places). dreamofstars - more images of her work i like after…

Simon-e

simone.jpgNot new, but trippy enough to keep me staring for a while. Remember Simon? Meets Ringu? And old school beepy video game like music? Yea its a bit of a head trip. Let your senses take in other vids as well Pleix

Oneify

oneify.jpgIf you’re been driving around socal lately you’ve definitely seen these Pepsi One Ads all over. And they are clean, vectory, boldy colorful, and defintely grab me, with a familiarity to them… so upon actually checking out Oneify realized its Geoff McFetridge, LA graphic designer/artist i’ve been a long time fan of. So defintely a must see, great wallpaper available, as well as character trading cards and really fun Webisode animations for each of them. They have a blank events section, but let me know if you find out more about what will be happening in conjunction with this campaign.

Face Crushing

16036.CBA343DF.jpgThere are stress balls, and then there are Cao Maru Stress Balls by Makiko Yoshida. Sometimes you just need to smoosh something, or someone you know who overworks and programs far too long needs to. And some of these little faces are sure to aggravate you to want to make you squish it more (good hand strengthening, help fight the effects of typing too much?)…

made of an extremely pliable polyurethane resin, these soft-heads can be squeezed, squashed, squished and squushed for stress relief throughout your busy day. the packaging claims:”it is safe if throw it in a quarrel by husband and wife because it is very soft (but, we cannot recommended to do so)”

Christ. Last Suppers.

modelslastsupper.jpgThere have been many artistic recreations of the infamous last supper, and after seeing so many lately thanks to La Petite Claudine and Caymag, i needed to save them somehow (by posting them so i never forget them).

This featured one is by Girbaud (click to see the larger version) Below are Cui Xiuwen’s Asian School Girls… David Lachapelle’s, and David Hockney’s.

Gardening with OXO

1063864_3a_1.jpg1063863_3a_1.jpgOXO good grips revolutionized the way my kitchen and cleaning functioned… suddenly the only options i allowed myself were “rubberized, ergonomic, gorgeous to leave around” or more Restoration Hardware, stick to the classic old school styles. [Naturally leaning towards OXO-izing my whole process for comfort]. So you can imagine i was excited to see that they are branching off into the world of home gardening, although not much of a yard to garden in at the moment, they are just pretty to look at, and when the time comes that i need to, these are high on the list.

Besides, even at home you could use a wateringcan, and i love how this one rotates back onto itself, not only saving space, but also minimizing drippage? Enjoy OXO, and remember these aren’t available till Summer ‘05.

Vinyl

rainy.jpgLOOT by Stina B… preshrunk featured the “hold the phone” tee, but browsing through their site, it certainly seems like their strong point is in the vinyl goods… from purses to pouches to wallets, they definitely create graphics that “pop”. A few more funky images after the jump. Loot

Corporate Pig

Picture 13.jpgPicture 14.jpg
Corporate Pigs! Intruiging name, and cute characters, go through the galleries… lots of monster’s inc. meets monsterism type creatures, mostly one of a kind, and then there are clones.

The necklace is also kind of cool to look at, definitely funky enough for anything, and have a magnetic clasp. These creations come out of Portland, OR hand made by Meredith Dittmar (also known as mermak). Enjoy! Corporate Pig

Green Squirrels

greensquirrel.jpgGreen Squirrel, a find from my own google ads. [Lately my google ads have been a good source of random new finds, surprisingly enough]

Their designs, philsophy and site are so cute and playful with just the right balance of cheeky humor and a hint of intellect, we’ve just given in and ordered the four seen. They even have a Cheapskates section with the Gas mask shirt for a mere 5$! A real steal. Not to mention hilarious ways for you to help them out, create some art, design a shirt, or more to barter them for free shirts. And even a buy 3 get 1 free deal on at the moment for their regular shirts. Additionally for the adventurous folks, Adopt a MUPS!!! (aka Messed Up Printed Shirt) A cute idea really.

So support some friendly happy Green Squirrels, and maybe help them scribble a cute banner for their site if you are bored.

Nozzled

sw04a3503.jpgIn researching Taiwan, hot spots, shopping, weather, etc. came across these cute little “REAL nozzles”. It’s an interesting way to pay hommage to the spray paint cans that enable graffiti and much street art everywhere. Ok, and there’s that cute appeal for some reason.
