Bowery Hotel NYC

bowery0.jpg Ack. It’s supposed to be the coldest night in a while here in NYC tonight! I guess it’s a good thing i just hopped the train down from Boston and got settled into the Bowery Hotel in NYC… definitely sounds like it ought to be a room service kind of night… lows of 5 degrees do not sound fun! Be it through laziness or busyness or indecisiveness, i’ve recently begun trying out the GoldSmith services of the fabulous Mr & Mrs Smith… it’s quite magical really, they’ll introduce you to your personal consultant who will take care of you when it comes to booking at any of their destinations as well as automatic room upgrades, airport lounge passes, loyalty plan and more… the part that has been the most fun so far, is it’s been far too fun emailing with my GoldSmith concierge, Jasmine. She’s made my life and inbox easier AND more amusing. While i’ll be testing things out more throughout the year, it’s already been a pleasure having them help me extend my stay in Boston last night at the XV Beacon (i’ve even ended up with a XV Beacon CD upon check out because of the Mr & Mrs Smith connection), and now they’ve worked out a press rate for me at the Bowery Hotel.

But i digress, back to the Bowery Hotel, my new home for the next few days, it’s adorable, and you simply must see the design details… i love their logo! And that they have a big calendar i can scribble on as i try to plan out the upcoming week… It’s so cold out, i totally got in and hopped into the comfy bed to work on the macbook air right now… SO cozy! And love the dark hardwood floors as well… go check it all out on the next page!

Roll n’ Pour Jiggers + Macallan + Mooo

jigger1.jpg Leave it to The Macallan Ambassador, Graeme Russell, to always find me the fascinating design details in the world of Macallan. After yesterday’s Masters of Photography Albert Watson launch in NYC, we hopped a train up to Boston for a scotch tasting dinner at Mooo in the XV Beacon (where i’m currently curled up in the four poster bed with the toasty fireplace at my toes). Design discovery of the dinner? Vintage Roll n’ Pour Jigger… this particular design makes me think of a unicorn! Also, take a peek at the vintage Macallan’s (awesome labels and bottles) and photographs from the Watson limited edition series that adorn our table in their wine cellar on the next page…

p.s. Any Boston shopping tips? I have some free time tomorrow to wander Boston for the first time in years and years before hopping a train back to NYC on sunday…

The Macallan Albert Watson NYC Launch

watson1.jpg Oooh these 4am posts after afterparties are becoming a dangerous habit! But there’s just something more fun about sharing gorgeous experiences with you quickly while i’m still riding the wave of inspiration from the preceding hours.

Tonight was the NYC launch of The Macallan’s Masters of Photography second series, featuring stunning photographs by the renowned, Albert Watson. The series is a limited edition set of special Masters of Photography bottles of Macallan paired with platinum prints. While visiting the Macallan Estate a few months ago, they teased us with sneak peeks of the images… projected on the screen in a dark room, while sipping the limited edition deliciousness (i can’t even tell you how spectacular this particular blend is! Yum.) our jaws dropped as we begged them to let us seem them again. So months later, it is a delight to finally see the prints in their true form… and meet Albert Watson himself! (Our friends at Cool Hunting have a lovely interview with him about the series.)

This project follows the story of the casks… from the trees in spain as they become barrels and as barrels become filled with what is aged to become the scotch we know and love in Scotland… and it’s photographed through the eyes of a couple going on a romantic and adventurous roadtrip from spain to scotland. As fun as it is to see the models and mini, the images of nature, the wood as it gets transformed, and the FIRE, are truly breath taking! See all of the platinum print images on the Masters of Photography site.So before i embark on a little road trip with the Macallan in a few hours, i wanted to give you a peek at the launch event, the behind the scenes video, and more… see it all on the next page!

The Standard x KAWS Light Bulbs

kawsstore00.jpg André Balazs Properties have always had gorgeously unique light bulbs… Chateau Marmont has a playful Pan (god of fertility, unbridled male sexuality and carnal desire to name a few) in a bulb… The Mercer has its signature M… it’s about time that The Standard Hotel’s had theirs as well! Announced last night, and literally flying off their digital and physical shelves, the KAWS Light Bulb Set for the Standard are a limited, but non-numbered edition of 1,000 sets that contain 3 bulbs each, of one bulb in each color: red, purple and green. While a few blocks away, i popped over to check out the new display of them in The Standard New York Shop window… as well as unboxing them and playing with them up close! The glow just draws you in, and the X’s are so signature KAWS. Ready to take a peek at it all up close? See the many pics on the next page!

Chandelier Creative Pop Up Penthouse

sparkle0.jpg The most incredible pop up book penthouse of a surprise arrived last week. And like a little kid, i still have it opened up on my kitchen table, and i can’t help poking at it, constantly finding new details, and pulling the tabs. This surprise came from Chandelier Creative - the bright pink box greets you with a COME SPARKLE… and the book cover has a bold OMG! It’s Christmas again! Step inside the Chandelier Creative Penthouse and Drink more Champagne than Joan Collins… Anyhow, the details and illustrations are so much fun, you have to explore the pictures on the next page, excuse me for going a little overboard, but there was far too much awesome to share!

Reiko Kaneko’s The Boat

boat1.jpg Lovely new piece from Reiko Kaneko for her 2011 collection, The Boat. Too cute that it got its name from the factory floor workers! The contrast of the natural fiber rope handle and the hand made English fine bone china is just stunning… perfect as a bread basket, fruit bowl, or anything else you dream up! See more pictures on the next page…

Dyson Digital Slim DC 35

dysonslim0.jpg Wow. On fun packages that arrived this weekend… i’m currently fascinated by the Dyson Digital Slim DC 35 Multi Floor… it’s a cordless vacuum, it embodies my favorite parts of all of things Dyson, and is an evolved version of my most used cleaning tool, the old DC 16 hand held. It’s like a smaller version, with more sucking power (dual power modes even!), has a removable battery, an extension tube, and a ball jointed, motorized head with carbon fiber bristles like the full vacuums. I won’t deny i’m more of a fan of the matte metallic blue accent vs the old glossy yellow as well. Ready to see the unboxing and details up close? Take a peek at the next page… there’s also a comparison shot of it to the old DC 16.

P.s. This is definitely replacing my poor old DC 16, and seems to be doing a pretty good job on carpet with the motorized head as well… so perhaps it will take over my other vacuum as well…

Sunset + Beach + CLS 63 AMG

sunsetamg0.jpg Mmmmm. Another late late night (4:30 already?), but bubbling with inspiration and giddiness, i had to share these pictures with you before sleeping. Spent about 6 or so hours cruising around with the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG today… from Rancho Santa Fe wandering east into the mountains to Julian (mmm pie) and down and around through more rolling hills right up to the border of Mexico before looping into downtown San Diego for lunch at the Andaz, a quick jaunt through Coronado… and then i couldn’t resist and raced over to my absolute favorite car/beach spot from my college days (you used to find me there listening to music and curled up reading in my car), where you can pull right up to the sand and nearly touch the sea… the ideal sunset spot to make everything in your mind seem irrelevant in an instant.

So. PERFECT sunset. PERFECT beach spot. And PERFECT car. Driving the CLS 63 AMG is absolute bliss. The growling purr of the engine can’t help but make you grin… and it seems to have solved my dilemma where cars have been one of my hardest design objects to shoot passionately. Apparently i just hadn’t found the right one to inspire me. But after an incredibly fun day of driving and exploring rural east county goodness and reminiscing about my san diego past, pulling up to the sunset at my favorite car/beach zen spot… and catching sunset by mere moments… the glow was utterly magical to say the least. And the way the sunset lit and reflected off the cars curves was mind blowing. Naturally, i couldn’t help taking a bunch of pictures… take a peek on the next page!

Mercedes-Benz AMG CLS 63

amgnight0.jpg After a lovely dinner and some macallan, most wandered off to sleep before tomorrow’s adventures begin… i couldn’t help having a little midnight photoshoot alone on the croquet lawn with the CLS 63 AMG… the cut away of the engine block is so beautifully lit in the night. Isn’t it gorgeous inside and out? Anyhow, 1am, and i really ought to sleep, but figured i’d leave you with some lustworthy pics… explore the next page, and i’ll keep you posted on pie tomorrow (we’re wandering out to the delicious Julian!)

Gallery 1988 Venice: Multiplayer

gameart00.jpg Here’s a sneak peek at the show opening tomorrow at the newest Gallery 1988: Venice! (Bittersweet that SF is closing, but awesome to have one on the westside!) “Multiplayer” opens tomorrow night and is filled with video game inspired art! I can’t wait to see what else is unveiled tomorrow night! Take a look at a few of the pieces on the next page… but be warned, you’ll be overcome with a nostalgic desire to go play tetris and zelda and more though!

Mercedes-Benz SLS E-Cell 2011 Calendar

ecell0.jpg Sometimes a gorgeous graphic in print form is all you need to get all inspired and giddy. Well, apparently that does it for me anyhow! Also, there’s nothing like a desk calendar to remind you just how fast 2011 is going to fly right by! As you already saw, i’m hiding out in Rancho Santa Fe with the Mercedes AMG crew this weekend and while the official fun has yet to start, i couldn’t help going through the teaser of a press kit and this calendar while on a call… and the graphics! and paper! and binding! So pretty and thoughtfully designed… and also making me even more certain that an electric sports car has to be on my life list? Or pre-30 list? Definitely pre-40 list. That SLS E-Cell is pretty lustworthy… and i’m not even usually into yellow. Anyhow, the graphics, photos, and even calendar layout itself, is so fun, you must check out the detail shots on the next page!

Rancho Valencia with Mercedes-Benz AMG

rvalencia0.jpg Today has been kind of amazing in socal, 70 degrees and sunny in LA, and the perfect day to cruise down to San Diego to meet up with Mercedes-Benz AMG… came down a few hours early wanting to skip rush hour and get some work done… but it’s hard not to relax when you pull into the world of Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in Rancho Santa Fe. So between conference calls and emails, how could i not share this HOUSE of a “room” i just checked into? So very california bungalow; comfy, cozy, and far too much space to have to myself! And truly, the perfect weather for what looks like it will shape up to be a glorious weekend to drive around with the new CLS 63 AMG. Take a peek inside my bungalow on the next page…
