Valentine’s 2007

vday2007.jpg
Happy Valentine’s Day ~ also happy first .org roundup since i’ve missed the last two? It’s been 36 weeks of .org! and week 4 of Tastespotting already!

So in lieu of a proper roundup, or even a massive roundup to make up for it ~ here’s a V-day roundup, since seldom will you see this much pink, red, and hearts on NOTCOT. Love/Hate cards, Free Vday Photoshop Brushes (no this should NOT count as your present to that special someone), Heart and Arrow Necklace, Kahlua infused heart shaped brownie ice cream sandwiches, glossy red raspberry ganache filled, opulent white choc coated hearts in gorgeous signature circular Pierre Marcolini boxes, and last but not least heart shaped plum cakes waiting patiently for the oven.

Turtle Dove Bands

featherbands.jpg
On interesting trends ~ the bird/nature inspired trend doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon, and an interesting emerging trend are the use of feathers (to go with the many bird silhouettes we’ve been seeing the last man months?)… Turtle Dove Feather Headband at Free People. It adds an interesting texture to the look, so natural, yet so controlled, and a nice contrast in the black and white. They also have two peacock feather variations.

Absolut Temptation

Next in the ever growing family of Absolut fruit flavors… PEAR. And this time they are selling it with some gorgeous videos of things being blown up… from apples, espressos, watches, donuts and more… (see videos below). Apparently this is the Absolut Temptation.

Balance Water

balancewater.jpg
Balance Water… aussie brand of water that seems to resemble Smart Water pretty closely… main difference? Apparently its all about the flower essences which have been infused… and variations specific for women, children, and TRAVELING. If these infusions really did what they say, it sounds pretty impressive, and quite the trip… for example- Grey Spider: Releases fears and phobias of perceived danger and Crowea: Calms and helps with worry. Has a centering affect.. Just another interesting addition to the growing list of water options ~

Munky King Party

mkmain.jpg
Chinese New Year AND Valentine’s Day right around the corner… stopped by the Munky King 3rd Anniversary and CNY party in Chinatown~ and welcoming in the year of the pig, they even had limited edition trading card sized glicee prints by Luke Chueh, Thomas Han, and Amanda Visell. But what really caught my eye was the PlasticGod Buddha… love the hands. (also found a video of it on youtube below!). Adorably cute store in the middle of one of the chinatown plazas which are really getting far more hipster filled relative to the old school chinese restaurants and stores i remember as a kid. Lots of pics below to give you a feel for the space…

Unlaid Eggs

07egg600.1.jpg
Yes, you read that right. Unlaid eggs… not tomatoes - the image caption from the NYT reads “DELICACY Unlaid eggs, from hens destined for the soup pot, being cured in salt at Blue Hill in Greenwich Village.” It makes me feel a little ill imagining what these are exactly… yet visually they are absolutely mesmerizing (oh the things i’ve been learning from Tastespotting)

NYT Excerpt: Mr. Barber, the chef and an owner of Blue Hill in Greenwich Village and Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills in Westchester County, had just been introduced to the wonders of eggs that are described, with varying degrees of delicacy, as immature, unborn, unlaid or embryonic. In plain English, these are eggs that have not been laid and are sometimes discovered when an elderly laying hen is slaughtered.

Matarile

woodblockmain.jpg
I love keys, magnets, and things that are not what they seem. So i’m smitten by this Matarile piece by Tomas Bedos for Amor de Madre… coming in two different sizes, what looks like simply a wood block, magnetically holds your keys! Brilliantly simple…

Monzo VDAY

Vday is around the corner, so how do you show that you are into it, without being TOO over the top? Kind of loving this subtle little heart pin from Amor de Madre by Marc Monzo.

Puma Inspiration

pumaninsmain.jpg
Walking down Third Street today… the Puma store remodel caught my eye, and made me light up, stop walking, and suddenly my friend turned and saw me crouched down taking a cameraphone pic of the signage…

CREATE OPENINGS. AIM HIGH. DON’T GIVE UP.

‘nuff said. and how great are those icons? These are words to live by, and graphics to aspire to. Anyhow, color me inspired… this image makes me smile. Larger image below…

Room dViders

roomdvider.jpg
As much as i love vector vinyl stickering, enough is enough! So i’m ecstatic to see that the smart folks at dVider have taken their idea (and name) to the next level with their room dViders! A brilliant new alternative to screens, curtains, etc… this a great modular system that can adapt physically and visually to any space as needed… not to mention PERFECT for studio dwellers needing that extra “wall” of sorts, or breaking up a loft/office space without feeling TOO cubicle like. And it’s really an instant portable wall to decorate and redecorate easily with everything from all your favorite vinyl wall stickers, to even having custom printed panels. This line certainly reminds me of that Ikea line of free standing closet/shelving that uses similar colors and vertical tension rod… also kind of reminds me of stripper poles…

DIY Cat Toys

cattoysdiy.jpg
We have a fascination with the DIY - print + cut + paste/tape - toy revolution going on these days… and i’m surprised i haven’t seen more like this! Marmalade’s promotional materials are DIY cutout corrugated cardboard cat toys! And even print and cut your own designs as well… BRILLIANT! not to mention, recyclable, cost effective, and STILL endless amusement for your kittens. Also, pretty site design, more images below. Fresh Leaves

Silicone Rubber and Wood - in combination with random bottles of your choosing, make these gorgeous bottle stoppers. A little bit modern, a little bit woodsy, and a beautiful and simple design solution. I want a pack. Designed by Tineke Beunders of Zodesign, these are “Fresh Leafes”.

Wii - hold on tight

wiiiiiiiiiadvert.jpg
How far does YOUR wii love go? For one of the guys at Super78… his Wii love and freetime made this awesome cgi ad for fun… here’s what he told Gizmodo: “I really love the Wii and I had been reading these stories about Wii controllers flying out of peoples hands. We had some down time at the office so I got together with one of the animators and I sketched out a storyboard of the spot. In the board the controller is this high energy maniac and the nun-chuck just wants to get away. So our most talented animator Michael Smith created this fun spot there is a lot of character…This was done by us, Super 78, using our own resources, no agency was involved, no money changed hands. I am hoping that you could post it so we can see if it catches fire.” Watch the “ad” below…

Simunovich Olive Oil

oliveoil.jpg
I would buy this olive oil based on packaging alone… and then hope its nearly as good as the graphic design. Something about the mix of bold powerful fonts mixed with wax seals and cork stoppers with traditional crests that just grabs me. “The Simunovich Olive Estate, a privately owned olive plantation in New Zealand produces premium quality extra virgin olive oil and an extensive range of olive oil skincare & beauty products.” I also love their story about the origin of olive oil (more below…)
