The Non-Object Book - CUin5 - interesting idea… “The non·object book is the first of its kind - the first of a new genre we call Design Fiction™. In the same way that sci-fi movies and fictional tales stretch your imagination, our hope is to take you on a journey into the future of design and inspiration. We will share stories and concepts that offer a new point of view, a new way of thinking, a new way forward. Of course, as with all fiction, some of our ideas may seem improbable – even impossible. Don’t worry, we bought the tickets. All you have to do is enjoy the ride.” fascinating video sneak peek at what it will hold… via mocoloco.
What happens when two playful pups meet a gator? Apparently this brilliant collaborative collection from Lacoste featuring Cap & Pep of Colette fame. My favorite aspects are really the gorgeous packaging as well as the playful nature of the characters interactions on the products… see more imagery below. Via TrendsNow.
Diesel takes on global warming as only they can… making their latest campaign poignant yet subtle, stylish yet absurd. Focusing on people and places… and claiming in their video that “GLOBAL WARMING CANT STOP OUR LIVES” ~ and thus begins the series of images below, about how although the polar ice caps are melting, etc you can still look good and embrace the heat… Above we have the overgrown tropical gardens in Paris… below there are the macaws who have replaced the Venetian pigeons, warm oceans in Antarctica, the tiny island of London, a post-great-flood Rio and NY, the giant desert that surrounds the great wall, the tropical paradise of Mt. Rushmore… gorgeous imagery from the great Terry Richardson. Global Warming… as approached in a way only Diesel can. Complete with links to stopglobalwarming.org and an inconvenient truth.
Welcome back after the gorgeous long weekend… to all you stateside kids. I’ve decided to do my .org roundups still weekly, but more of a whenever i feel inspired to do one as themes pop up. And this week there has been so many great videos i get lost in… if notcot has a tv channel, this is the type of stuff you’d be watching… So as you sit at your desk and need some inspiration to sit back and zone out too:
- 3135:: Pleix’s Birds :: what feels like dogs on trampolines in slomo with Vitalic in the background… i can’t stop watching this one.
- 3173:: Pes’ Human Skateboard Ad :: Mesmerizing… and you must check out all of his other shorts and ads as well, i particularly recommend the Roof Sex and the Making of Roof Sex.
- 3169:: Ok Go’s Do What You Want Video :: Banksy’s elephant stunt meets crazy Ok Go fast paced tune is a sure waker upper.
- 3158:: Guinness’ Hands :: You can even cut and paste your own video… it will make you look at your hands differently for at least a few minutes.
- 3192:: Podlove :: It really is a few shorts about life, love, and the technology that effects them… especially “i love like blood”.
- 3112:: Rabbids Don’t Date :: Rayman’s Rabbids are the BEST game ever on the Wii especially… and their animated shorts are pure brilliance. If this doesn’t make you smile, i worry for you.
Double walled glass has been showing up a lot lately… but never quite like this. For all pint glass lovers like designer Emiko Oki, this line of glasses she designed adds more function to the classic shape. In 4 models, there is the candle holder, the ashtray, the vase, and my personal favorite - the goblet (isn’t it fun with colored drinks in it?).
Forest Roll from Aguiniga Design ~ innovative foresty goodness that folds up nicely when not in use… for dreamers and schemers alike who like to lie in their imaginary forests in the fall between fallen logs and piles of leaves… would be GREAT for elementary school classrooms during storytime?
The cult like world of Lomography ~ announces a notebook… and it looks great! (and no no don’t compare it to moleskine already, since the elastic around is so standard these days, and its not as if they invented it)… there’s something nice about a notebook that gives you your space to doodle and ruminate at will… yet also inspires you on every page with some little tips and tidbits and pictures. And everyone knows it can sometimes be hard to fill a notebook in one calendar year depending on your usage and how many you have… this one has calendars fro 2007-2010! As if they knew some of us like the plan ahead… as well as dialing codes and time zones, for us international types. Lomographic Notebook (more info and images below as well!)
I have been leaning towards food and drink lately since the birth of Tastespotting (1 month anniversary this week already!) ~ but to be honest its been a whole new world of inspiration opened up to me! So on that note… where food and design intersect… i was blown away last night by the brilliance of the naming of Curious Fork / Furious Cork (BRILLIANT!) ~ as well as its logo branding… and really just that when its so hard to find a good domain these days, that they have that one. And i found it through The Ghetto Gourmet (who also has a great logo)…
So what is the Curious Fork and the Furious Cork? An alternative wining & dining network… Tastespotting might need to try and join up with these folks.
Ooooh i feel like the packaging/design gods have smiled upon us ~ with the OMOP. The name alone rings nicer than iPod even. Latest from Method Home ~ again blending form, functionality, and earth friendliness… with breathtaking packaging as always. This is the sexier and supposedly better swiffer for discerning tastes. I love that method says that they think a mop can be hip and sexy ~ not to mention ergonomic and less wasteful. So lots of pictures below of more packaging… like the starter kit at target.
The aluminum monkeys of Markolijn Mandersloot decorate the Bredeschool Malburcht in Graslaan, Arnhem (2006). Breathtakingly taunting and playful, i wish i had these at my school as a kid! Although i would have probably spent most of the time doodling the monkeys outside my windows. Love her work, more images from this piece below.
Teaposies are hand made bouquets bundled and waiting to bloom in your gorgeous glass teapots. Similar to the Adagio Blooming Teas, the ones at Teaposy seem to have more variation in their flavors and design… and remind me a lot of Lush for some reason. (if lush made tea to go with that fizzing bath bomb, this would be it?) More mesmerizing than the concept and the tea as it brews… are the images of how these are made. See more below.
One last one for the lonelier or more playful Valentine’s Day people… OhMiBod turned up on .org a week or so ago, and we were intrigued. And conceptually its really pretty brilliant ~ basically its a vibrator that takes audio input and vibrates to the rhythm. For all your concert going kids, you know that feeling of standing right next to the sub? Now imagine taking that vibration you feel and concentrating it into this device… and aiming that wherever you please.
So two days before Valentine’s, this box shows up containing the OhMiBod, the pink garter, the ‘softskin sleeve’, and a t-shirt. (unboxing images below) They’ve got some nice clean branding and packaging ~ and even provide itunes’ playlists for songs that work especially well.
WAGS Boutique ~ the british reality tv show over at ITV… ” For 13 weeks, the girls (more used to maxing out their credit cards than swiping other people’s) will swap shelf-browsing for shelf-stacking as they set up and run two rival fashion boutiques in central London. From designing the stores and selecting stock to marketing and perfecting their sales technique, the ten WAGs will require determination, flair and a head for business to succeed.”
Tobias Carlson and partner at M&C Saatchi London made some fun visuals to go with the show… (more below)… the Chihuahua Urinal in particular cracks me up… although i cant imagine that going over well as boys are stumbling home from the bars? Fun campaign.
I just discovered japanese publisher, BNN, Inc.’s Pattern series today, and splurged on the $49 Grain… and it was completely worth it. For any designers who love having high res royalty free stock that comes in gorgeous books (there is something about the 8.5” shape, nice matte cover, high quality color pages) with cd slot in the back… (aka fellow Pepin Press collectors)… you will LOVE this Pattern Series.
One of the things that impressed me most about this series is that the jpgs are more navigable than the Pepin Press series (which go by page numbers) ~ there is an .htm file on the disc that gives you a nice way to browse thumbnails of all of the files (images below). A bit pricey at 49$ for 100 royalty free jpeg files compared to the Pepin books… the books truly are gorgeous. And the Grain volume in particular caught my eye, although i’m not yet sure what i will make from these 1600x1600 wood grains… Other titles in the pattern series in clude butterflies, soviet style, animal prints, plaids, camouflage, and more.
