Must — Make — Art.

plastickid.png
Truly inspirational. And so much fun! Can’t stop viewing these pages over and over… the first one with the foam core collage on the wall, and the one shown above on plywood… watching it evolve through the steps is just mesmerizing. CLICK THE PICTURE, and watch how the creations unfold before your eyes. Nice, PlasticKid.

Hurray… Sex .

hurray_sex.jpgFew things in life approach such topics with such cartooniness… well… ok yea so ShadeElaine and i found this bizarre and tacky/silly and were somewhat horrified yet amused by its existence… but seriously, (or maybe we’ve been out of the loop) do you often see Sanrio-ized sex bangles? Complete with pink trains, minty green backing, and can’t forget those glittery sparkly Austrian Crystal bits! Wow… and if sex doesn’t make you say HURRAY! maybe “mmmm Carbs” or “Yay! …. Sugar” is more your style. [kudos to the Spear for this site]

Glaser - Design Inspiration

glaser.pngThis is a must see for any designer… The folks of idgrid found this great little video interviewing Milton Glaser, graphic design legend. And it is truly an inspiration to listen to his views on design as a balance between art and business… the role of art in culture to pacify and help create common ground… to “prevent people from killing one another”… And the importance of passion to sustain throughout your lifetime to keep you young and enthusiastic about all the world has to offer… and most importantly to understand the importance of design in our world, and the impact you can have on people… that turning point when a person changes from a blank stare to waking up to an incredible image or sound. Just go watch it. Here.

Sometimes you feel gimmicky…

choc-cab112.jpgChocolate + Red Wine… Chocolate ON Red Wine = this? It feels too gimmicky. But it is starting to appeal to my inner cravings as well. Interesting idea Luxist came across… Yum? But not sure how i feel about pour-pour-CHISEL? The choc-cabernet is by Goosecross Cellars from Napa Valley, CA. Here’s Luxist’s cute bit on them:

Chocolate and wine together, absolutely, but in the same bottle? Goosecross Cellars, a small winery in Napa has a unique packaging idea. They take their Goosecross cabernet or merlot and then cover the entire bottle in milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate. They deccorate the chocolate with designs, patterns and a label. Then they wrap it up in cellophane, bows and ribbons. The bottle costs $67. Pour a glass and then cut a bit off chocolate off the side—instant dessert.

ME box

jpg42c169157398d.jpgOooh, Design*Sponge has found my weakness. Filing boxes for moving, my poor books (the carefully selected one box worth of many) are living in an office depot box, but how much more fun would it be to have them all in these, with funky iconic images punched out at my will? Love them! Maybe me, a hole punch, and my office depot box can get crafty.

Friendship?!?!

tensionring.jpgRelish calls this white backed image a FRIENDSHIP RING It makes me wonder if i don’t have the right types of “friends” for a ring like this. But that tension ring (on black) is pretty sweet… i love things that look so clean, mixing that harsh cold steel with the translucency and strength of a jewel in such a strange juxtaposition… *gush*. Take a look at the rest of the B.Tiff collection, a few interesting rings, the rest i’m not as fond of.

p.s. i’m not shopping for rings for a specific reason, no “friends” to buy me diamonds… but maybe my curiosity for them is that right hand ring marketing schpiel working its way into my brain!

Necessity, Mother of Invention.

050607_fishapron.jpgOld news, but awesome to finally see the pic Thanks RUGenius… and incase you missed the story…

June 7, 2005—Bulging with bags containing 51 tropical fish, an alleged smuggler’s custom-designed apron—originally hidden by a skirt—was uncovered Friday at Australia’s Melbourne International Airport. After the unnamed 43-year-old Australian arrived from Singapore, “customs officers became suspicious after hearing ‘flipping’ noises coming from the vicinity of her waist,” the Australian Customs Service said in a statement released today.

Crazy what people will do for money, no?

Black Hole in LA

above01.jpgWOW. WOW. and well, WOW. I need to go find this and take pics soon.

The new vortex—shaped installation by architects Benjamin Ball and Gaston Nogues warps the flow of space with a featherweight rendition of a celestial black hole; “the deadliest force in the Universe.” Hovering over M&A’s courtyard, “Maximilian’s Shell” is the size of an apartment building and is a spectacle that has been stopping traffic along Silver Lake Boulevard since its unveiling. Constructed in tinted Mylar resembling stained glass, the vortex functions as a shade structure, swirling above the outdoor gallery through November 26th 2005.
The interior of the immersive installation creates an environment for enhanced social interaction and contemplation by changing the space, color, and sound of the M&A courtyard gallery. During the day as the sun passes overhead, the canopy casts colored fractal light patterns onto the ground while a tranquil subsonic drone from an integrated ambient sound installation by composer James Lumb (Electric Skychurch) entitled “Resonant Amplified Vortex Emitter,” lightly rumbles below the feet of visitors.

Truly beautiful and quite the architectural + artistic feat… at a complete loss for words. via Inhabitat.
