Jawbone Earcandy + Prime

jawbone1.jpg More Jawbones ~ already! And i’ve barely used my other ones (they live in my car ~ i tend to use speakerphone as my handsfree when driving alone…) I must say the starburst color palette is pretty fun, particularly the photography they with this new Ear Candy line ~ there is also the new Prime line, which is the usual black, silver, bronzey palette as well… So for what’s new and more pics ~ check out the next page!

GURP! Mimobot Contest!

gurp.jpg HAPPY EARTH DAY! And good morning! Apparently i’m judging this latest Mimoco Contest ~ along with Cool Hunting and Inhabitat! Firstly what is GURPing (GURP = GreenBot USB flash drive Recycling Program)? Well apparently it is the Mimoco program to recycle all those unwanted flashdrives you’ve been accumulating (every few months they just get BIGGER, BETTER, and Cheaper!) In the last year they’ve already received hundreds!

So what’s the deal? VIDEO CONTEST!!! From Earth Day until Mother’s Day (May 10th), you can enter by making a video that promotes recycling via GURP.

“For every video entry received, Mimoco will contribute to save 1,000 square feet of rain forest through the Arbor Day Foundation’s Rain Forest Rescue program. Mimoco, and their media partner judges at Cool Hunting, NOTCOT, and Inhabitat, will choose up to 100 entrants to receive limited edition, organic cotton MIMOBOT GURP t-shirts. The grand prize winner will receive two 8GB MIMOBOT flash drives of their choice. An Audience Choice winner, chosen by the Mimoco community, will win an 8GB drive of their choice, and four runner ups will each receive 4GB MIMOBOT drives.” Read more about GURP and enter here.

p.s.
you can watch the GURP instructional video on the next page!

Peek at Tord Boontje for Bisazza

bisazza1.jpg As promised ~ i just got an email filled with the images of the full Tord Boontje 2009 collection for Bisazza. So, while i won’t be able to make it in person, on the next page you can see the 3 new pieces that Tord Boontje designed with the beautiful Bisazza tiles. I must admit i’m a huge boontje fan for his usual beautiful nature inspired clean vectory patterns ~ and this is about as pixelated as you can get from that. I love how they look like mosaic blocks, you wouldn’t necessarily guess that there are drawers and shelves and goodies hidden within them! Don’t hate me for saying this (or blame the heat) ~ but the vertical pieces do remind me conceptually of that IKEA Malm headboard with the hidden roll-out shelves ~ of course with more beautiful materials and mosaics applied! I’d love to have one of these as a side table, or behind the couch… and the coffee table, filled with spirits is just breathtaking as well…

Take a look at all three pieces from various angles on the next page ~ as well as the full press release!

Garrett Smith’s Massager/Bag Hook

massager.jpg This is Garrett Smith’s brilliantly simple table support for heavy backpacks that doubles as as a massager for back ‘knots’ caused by heavy backpacks! Or… purses? Perfect for all of us ladies with the giant ever growing purses and those silly table hangers barely hold them up sometimes (not that i’d trust my dslr to be suspended in a busy restaurant by one!)… And the massager option is so nice… except for the part where you’d need someone with you to help implement it properly? Anyhow ~ this is one of many fun projects being shown by SAIC in Milan this year!

Get a preview of the many projects and exhibitions here… Garrett Smith’s project is part of the THE EXPANDING CLASSROOM Exhibition - News ways to live and learn - at FuoriSalone - Danese Milano April 22 - 27 at Via Canova 34-20145 Milan, Italy. “Students from SAIC, in collaboration with Danese Milano and American designer Jonathan Olivares, examined contemporary behaviors and contexts of education, study, and learning.” See more images of this project on the next page…

Talenti Sorbetto e Gelato

talenti1.jpg Ok, don’t laugh. This heat wave is unbearable. I just finished up the remains of the Talenti Roman Raspberry Sorbetto that was in my freezer… and now all i have is the awesome Talenti plastic container sitting in front of me wishing i had more. And wondering why i didn’t photograph it for a post earlier, since i obviously bought it because it was so pretty… so none the less, here’s a post about the deliciousness, which may have been partially influenced by the fact that i just wandered through their flavors and gallery and wondering which one i wish would magically appear in my fridge next. Why is it so hot?!?!?!?!?!

Bottom line? DELICIOUS. And i think i want to try the Hill Country Peach Champagne Sorbetto next… why isn’t Whole Foods 24 hour? See more of the deliciousness in reusable screw cap plastic packaging on the next page! Yummmm…

p.s.
Not convinced how hot it is? Check out my video of a squirrel that ran up right next to me and was pancaking in the water on the next page too…

Tord Boontje 2009 for Bisazza

tord0.jpg On emails that make me way too excited and even closer to pushing BUY on a flight to milan… Tord Boontje + Bisazza + Veuve Clicquot? If you’re in milan this week, this sounds like one definitely to check out (and please send pics!!!)

So what is it? Digital Memories - “When I look at mosaic patterns, I am immediately reminded of a pixelated image, a digital image. We use digital images from cameras and video to capture moments of life, these become our memories. The collection of mosaic for Bisazza is based on the idea to use images that trigger memories when you look at them. A pattern of sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees can remind you of a nice summer day, a picnic in the park or daydreaming in the back of a car and watching the landscape going by. These patterns become personalized memories for each viewer, we all share these memories. I applied some of these patterns, Summer Trees, Dark Waters and Night Vision, to a coffee table and two sizes commode. The pieces have a large surface area for the mosaic to work optimally and an innovative sliding mechanism that opens the intricate volume inside.”

See a close up and the event flyer on the next page…

Designed For Dell

designedfordell00.jpg Finding a nice laptop sleeve or bag has usually been no easy feat (granted, i’m extremely picky too!) ~ and there has certainly been a major trend towards designers making more and more gorgeous accessories as these devices have become core aspects of our everyday… but i must admit i’m a bit blown away to find Tumi, Mandarina Duck, Acme Made, Timbuk2, Built NY, Kenneth Cole, and more at DELL… and to have them have some really sweet exclusive
Designed For Dell products just kind of floored me tonight. How long has this been going on? Why didn’t anyone tell me? Is it bad i feel weird to have Dell becoming a possible go to for slick bags? And even worse, because of some of these bags i’m getting more and more tempted to indulge in a little necessary black netbook as a new toy? (Justification? Ummm… cross browser checking machine?)

I think its safe to safe that Dell has definitely embraced the “lifestyle” of mobile computing with all of this. And honestly, all these exclusive accessories are just making my late night shopaholic come out in full force wanting not only accessories, but perfectly sized laptops to stick in them as well. And as much as my hardware may say i love apple, Dell just earned major points in my book with these offerings. See my selection of the best of the Designed For Dell collection on the next page ~

Florence Deygas and Veuve Clicquot

Deygas1.jpg Ooooh a behind the scenes look at the work of Florence Deygas for Veuve Clicquot. Deygas is also the creator of the adorable Caprino & Peperone, those two doggies that are the Colette mascots!!! I love the beauty and simplicity of her brushstroke paintings ~ and it’s no surprise that she’s collaborated with Veuve Clicquot so many times. (Here’s a peek at an installation video she did with them in 2007 ~ where her work looks nearly like lipstick on floor to ceiling windows illustrating the skyline below… See the video!) She has also collaborated with brands such as Fendi, Yves Sain Laurent, Nokia, Vogue and Lacoste.

I was initially torn to have so many Veuve Clicquot related postings back to back ~ but realized i feel like i’ve found a kindred spirit in the VC brand ~ and their collaborations and support of incredible artists and designers consistently has proven incredibly inspiring time and time again. As far as brands go, i suppose i’d love to have NOTCOT take a similar route someday, finding new ways to not only help share incredible works we discover, but also help inspire, support, and collaborate with artists and designers we love! But until then… click through to the next page and see more of this latest collaboration between Florence Deygas and Veuve Clicquot, as well as a peek at the artist at work!

1st Ave Machine Samsung Hummingbird

Samsung has their new LED TVs out ~ you’ve probably seen the ads just starting here at NOTCOT, and i have a new surprise to show you related to that soon (more to come when i can share!)… but all you need to know for now is that Linhchi and i have been closely getting to know the hummingbird in their ads the last week, and i kind of love it, even as much as it spreads quickly from tv ads to our online ads to magazine spreads and more… I just spotted the advert at FEED and they highlighted that the CG was produced by NY based 1st Ave Machine who has done some very awesome work worth checking out. So, happy saturday, and enjoy this gorgeous CG spot ~ its like a crazy iridescent hummingbird with insect like wings and a mesmerizingly drippy gooey quetzal like tail?

Postfossil at SaloneSatellite 2009

ram1.jpg Ok ok, i really should go to sleep ~ but finally cleaned through about 2/3s of many many emails in my inbox, and amongst them was this really cool one from Postfossil who is launching a new collection at the Salone Satellite 2009 in Milano next week! So before i leave you, here is some fun eye candy to enjoy! See more of the new collection and more details on the next page!

Veuve Clicquot Out of the Box

vcs0.jpg Veuve Clicquot is presenting Out of the Box at the Milano Salone del Mobile 2009 ~ and NOTCOT has a first peek at the goodies being shown! Their new DesignBox is an eco-friendly gift box ~ which they’ve put into the hands of Tom Dixon, Front Design, and 5.5 Designers to see what it inspired in them. These three collaborations come together at the SuperStudio Piu exhibition along with the Domus Academy (my alma mater!) Master in Design projects on Via Tortona, 27 from April 22nd through 27th.

Above you can see renderings of Couch by Front Design, Lamp by Tom Dixon, and Cellar by 5.5 Designers. And on exciting news if you’re in milan… only 500 of Tom Dixon’s lamp have been produced and on day of the event 490 lamps (which are limited edition) will be made available to guests in Milan on a first-come first served basis!!! But for now, check out larger images and more info on the next page!

p.s.
Will you be in Milan? Have some great photography skills and an obsession for design? I won’t be making it out this year, but some eyes and ears over there to help cover some events might be fun…

p.p.s
i love that hexagon logo shaped hole on the side of the box that says PUSH.

Kohler Karbon + Smart Divide Unbox

kohler0.jpg On NOTCOT firsts ~ i have never really remodeled a house, taken apart a kitchen, installed a faucet, carried a sink… so for those who have, don’t mind my silly excitement at some of the more mundane aspects. Also, i’ve been far too distracted playing with the sculptural Kohler Karbon Faucet, i mean sure, i’ve poked at it at design fairs, but the booth folks sure give you funny looks if you stand there reshaping it too much. Would it be weird to have this designer faucet as my desk/fidget toy? Its so beautiful! And mesmerizing to play with? Also since earlier Kohler ads ran on NOTCOT a few months ago ~ i’ve been wanting to try those Smart Divide sinks with the shorter dividers ~ cookie trays sticking out of the sink - no more!

I’ve never unboxed a sink or a kitchen faucet… ever! So naturally you get to check it out with me! Consider this the first in my latest hands on offline project ~ more updates to come soon ~ but for now, feel free to take a peek at how fun the products are in real life on the next page!

p.s.
i totally geeked out about the Karbon on Numb3rs over at H2OVisions

Chikuno Cube

chik0.jpg Chikuno Cubes ~ gorgeous, tiny (see next page for a pic of it in the fridge!), and apparently it sucks up odors! With its fascinatingly delicate structure ~ these ultra fine bamboo powder/charcoal cubes absorb moisture, odor, gas, ethylene, ammonia, formaldehyde, and more… apparently its made from water soluable powder so you’re supposed to keep it away from water. Every month it says to place it in direct sunlight for 6 hours to release all that it has trapped ~ does it work? I’m not sure yet, it just arrived yesterday! BUT, it is pretty cool looking, and had some adorable very japanese, gift boxed packaging. (Got mine at Delight!)

Baxter of California Bravado #2 + #3

bravado0.jpg I really wanted to name this post “Look, mom! NO GLUE! or INK!” ~ but that seemed too silly ~ but this is definitely a packaging post ~ and much like that super fun Jurlique box a while ago ~ it’s all nicely cut efficiently folded box design! NO GLUE! and in this case, also, no ink ~ but just cardboard and foil application! On both the main box and the minis! As for the packaging designs with no glue and no ink ~ it’s the brain child of Marc Atlan, art director extraordinaire with a flair for fragrance packaging (he did Comme des Garcons, Helmut Lang, and Yves Saint Laurent).

So, what is it? Well freshly dropped off are these new Baxter of California Bravado Eau de Colognes ~ Bravado 2 and Bravado 3. The original Bravado was launched back in the early 1970’s, but its been retired for over 7 years! So here are its latest reincarnations… But really, you have to check out the packaging on the next page!

p.s.
These will be available any day now in Barneys, and aren’t even on the Baxter of California site yet!

Lizzie Thomas Wood + Paper

lizzie1.jpg It’s somehow becoming paper art week here at NOTCOT ~ after the many incredible artists showing at Papershapers, i just keep finding MORE! Late night obsessing over the 3D works of young British artist & maker: Lizzie Thomas!

Her 3D micro-paper-sculptures unfold like pocket sized mythical worlds and forests tucked away in little hinged wooden boxes. One can only imagine the beautiful shadows they would cast on a wall if a candle was carefully lit beside them (perhaps this is where the paper aspect may not work as well?). You must check out more of the pieces on the next page, as well as an adorable portrait of the artist herself!
