Rabbid Portraits

rabbidsmain.jpg
Rayman’s Rabbids in combination with the Wii changed my life. (And now there is also a wii off to change Pres Rodriguez’s life out in Florida ~ CONGRATS! to our wii winner). That being said, anyone who has yet to experience the insanity of the Rabbids on the wii, get to it! So, i finally did a mini shoot with my vinyl Rabbids… and they were too fun not to share, more below.

Veuve Clicquot Loveseat

cliquotmain.jpg
On sleek furniture designs… i fell for the Karim Rashid Veuve Clicquot Loveseat this morning over at Luxist. There’s something about the infinite curves, yet a nice separation of space (with a bottle of bubbly as the border?) thats enticing, and the photography for the piece is beautifully surreal. More images below.

BP Helios House

bpgreenmain.jpg
If you want to talk green… or have the ultimate green fieldtrip ~ who would have thought you’d head to a gas station? Yes, this is the latest green project from BP ~ the Helios House. There are pictures of it in the day around the internet, but the way it looked as we drove by last night was just bizarre to say the least… almost like a disneylandish geary gone wrong? (it reminded me a lot of the plastic ice xmas trees and such at 3rd street promenade)… visually, it certainly makes you stop and think, WTF? as you pass the intersection of Olympic and Robertson.

Conceptually, this is brilliant though… an unique and powerful way to educate, encourage, and demonstrate what you can do when you think green. They have worked in everything from a green roof on the bathroom, farmed wood, motion sensor lights, solar panels, recycled glass in concrete floors, led lighting, recycling bins, and far more (see the site, and charts below for more details). They have even taken over the billboard on both sides, currently reading “a little better… gas station”… complete with the grass motif on the underside of the billboards as well. It really felt a bit like tomorrowland in old school disneyland style. Also great was watching the guys who worked there scrub down every scuff, scratch, smear on any part of the gas station almost immediately…

Heart Throb @MK

vanmizunoshow
Heart Throb opening was last night at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery. And it was packed… with scenesters, hipsters, art lovers, and some of the most breathtaking works i’ve seen in a while. (note: i might be biased, having loved the work of miss van for some time now… also junko mizuno.) It was incredible how highly priced all pieces were, but even more impressive was how quickly they were selling out. For all of my pictures during the show, view them in the gallery. .. also view the scans of the Miss Van limited edition postcards there.

Miss Van Princesas

mvcmain.jpg
Went by the Miss Van/Junko Mizuno opening last night… and was floored. But before i show you all the gallery pics, here are scans of the limited edition Princesas postcard set (500 copies)… the paintings were drop dead gorgeous… literally could have spent all night standing and staring at them. Incredible thing is really how far she’s come from the street art in the 90’s, to practically instantly sold out $30,000 paintings.

Embroidered Calls

phonecalls.jpg
Louisa Bufardeci has created a unique blend of embroidery, technology, and information visualization ~ here is an example from 13 captured telephone conversations - all one minute long, 2006, machine embroideries. Perhaps the perfect installation for a sound studio waiting room? Visually the ability to visualize these in such a tactile manner is fascinating, and equally interesting are her embroidered portraits of Anti-War Speeches (more images below). via Gizmodo

Carry-Almost-All

floralbigbag.jpg
Spring has sprung, or so it feels all up and down California these days. And with spring comes spring fashion… in all its bright happy colors, fun prints, and face it… people just tend to be in better moods around the world this time of year… Gardenia Carry-All at Anthropologie.

Aprons to go out in

anthroaprons.jpg
Somewhere in the cross section of design, food, and fashion (yes, picture the ven diagram here) ~ you will find APRONS… and they are getting sexier, more playful, and far too cute to wear only in the kitchen now. I’ve shown you the adorable aprons of Jessie Steele before, but check out the latest selection from Anthropologie. So with all the deliciousness to learn to cook on Tastespotting, i think its time i invest in one (or two, or a few?) cooking outfits!

York Mints + Nicole Miller

yorkmiller.jpg
Mmmm York Mints… the packaging makes me drool as much as the mints i think… but on the black and white tin… as much as i love the typography of the old school tin, the Nicole Miller black and white is just gorgeous. These are a collaboration between Hersheys and Young Survival Coalition, an organization that unites young women against breast cancer.

Le Blog De Nesk

nesteness.jpg
Shade Elaine and i spent all day on Radar… and then in our brownie induced delirium to follow, we discovered Le blog de nesk… and couldn’t stop giggling and loving the images… You can even get their shirts over at Le Neskerie.

So here we have a girl feeding spiders to her venus fly trap (much like the adorable little one Shade Elaine just bought a bell jar for)… a monster i wish i had, which seems to dump on people… and a strap on unicorn that can’t not make you smile… more of our favs below.

Speech Bubbles

comicfest.jpg
MoMA has a new exhibition on ~ Comic Abstraction ~ and the speech bubbles have been mesmerizing me all morning. There is something fascinating about speech bubbles… to doodle them is so natural… and thought bubbles as well. These mylar speech bubbles are the work of Philippe Parreno back in 1997… great quote from him “A good image is always a social moment.” The other is a close up from a series of works by Rivane Neuenschwander - blocking out all images and text and only leaving the structure of the comic… read more behind all these pieces and see more from other favorites like Murakami, Essenhigh, Herrerra, and more.

Rasmus Mogensen

rasmus-fencing.jpg
This post goes out to RUGenius as an early bday card of sorts (she’s turning the big 22 on thurs!) ~ and as the design loving, saver of animals, nearly phd having, fencer in my life… this fashion photo set by Rasmus Mogensen was too breathtaking not to feature. And there’s something about swords ~ and fencing masks… dangerously playful perhaps?

Lego Pop Art

poplegoart.jpg
Only thing better than classic surrealist/pop art… and legos… are surrealist/pop art made of legos, in an exhibition, with drunken lego wander around the gallery. Although not new, Art Craziest Nation ran at the Walker Art Gallery in 2005-2006 - by The Little Artists (John Cake and Darren Neave)… and i just found it on my latest lego addiction, Brothers Brick. Above are some of my favorites ~ Dali’s Lobster Phone ~ and Warhol’s Money. Few other fun ones below…

Want a Wii?

winawii.png
We love the wii here at notcot ~ the whole team has one pretty much… well we’ve randomly picked up 5 at targets luckily, so decided to share one with a lucky reader. All .org readers know we’ve been closely following the great design, UI, and innovative games and wii ready sites like wiiminder, wiitoob, wiihear, etc. And our favorite game/animations lately… Rayman’s Rabbids!

Additionally, i’m sure you’ve noticed the ad spaces i’ve been slowly adding to .com and .org ~ its been a really hard decision on my part, but the last year of running the sites has been so fun, i’m excited to move closer to making NOTCOT my full time gig (i still do a lot of UX/design consulting). The ad spaces aren’t perfect yet, and design wise been trying to work them in nicely, but don’t be surprised to see them evolve quite a bit on both in the upcoming weeks… have ideas on how the layouts might work better? lets hear them!

SO. What does this mean? and how to win the wii? Federated Media needs another survey to be run to get us more innovative/creative ads… so ~ basically fill out the survey here… and in the comments section (bottom of the survey), leave your email address (and if you’re feeling nice, what you love about the wii?), and the winner will be contacted Friday!
