Clandestine

clandestine.jpg
So apparently Fall Out Boy guys have their own clothing line “Clandestine Industries” and they like bats - like old school Batman bats… and they too have a Razor necklace (only it has a bat in the middle!). And for some reason, today the whole idea of having super powers and then exposing them via indie hoodie makes me giggle… and no, love can’t save you. But yes, super powers can. [feeling a bit cynical on the love today, sorry]

Malkovich

malkovich.jpg
As far as bizarre emails go, this one took the cake. Check out this insane documentary by actor/director John Malkovich. “[he] summons a tv producer to Milan to document and participate in his unconventional fashion show. Rather then using regular models, Mr. Malkovich plans to have 20 Judo fighters beat each other up while wearing his designs. They will do this on a stage, in front of a live audience, with Mr. Malkovich directing all the action. He will also direct the 3 camera’s of the Fashion Television crew as they film the event. The Hollywood star has 3 days to pull this unusual spectacle together. The tv crew follows Mr. Malkovich as he oversees fittings, tries to choreograph a group of Italian fighters, and drives to the factory where his clothesare manufactured.” Hilarious. Bizarre. and $1.99 for the iPod Version. Flipping Uncle Kimono. And you can also check out the fashion line to go with it.

Europe?

Ciao* Bit swamped today - but will get some stuff up later tonight (west coast california time) - quick question to everyone - Anyone going to be in Copenhagen for their design week May 5-8? I just decided to head out there for that - and will probably be in Sweden and around London/Oxford a little as well… and possibly more for the month of May - possibly into June… Any suggestions? Must see, places not to miss, cool events going on?

Great Laundry

laundrysum.jpg
Ok so here are photos of Great Laundry - the japanese tshirt company’s first american store. Gorgeous displays and the quality of these shirts blow away my usual American Apparels and most others i’ve tried recently. All shirts are unisex, but the S fits like something a tiny bit larger than a girls S (and its not too short!). “Laundry USA, Inc. With the theme of (World Peace), Great Laundry put the message in the T-shirts and sending it out to the world… To be a part of lifestyle of the people all over the world is the goal of Great Laundry.” Check out pictures below of the store, the packaging, the sweet skull shirt, and a really fun Samurai shirt i couldn’t resist.

Headphones + Samurai

headphones.jpg
I was at the Earth Day festivities at the LAB and the CAMP in the OC… (ah, so many caps to be had there). While i pop by there often between LA and SD trips, it’s been a while lately and i came across this new store Laundry, fresh from Japan, first one in the states. More to come on that in the next post actually about their shirts… but check out this sweet headphone necklace - and below you MUST see this really awesome Samurai Figurine.

Earth Day

earth.jpgHAPPY EARTHDAY weekend! RUGenius sent me over to the Nasa Earth Observatory page where you can see all type of earth imagery and a lot of gorgeous data animations you can customize.

Also check out the Map Mogul for more views of the Earth from various time periods - certainly gives you some perspective… “Map Mogul Ltd supplies high quality original antiquarian maps, atlases and prints from the 15th to 19th century. Maps by the most influential cartographers, over all periods, are represented in our catalogue. Our maps reflect the discovery of the world and the changes in the cartographic record over half a millennium.”

Owl Belt

owlbelt.jpg
I met Amy Di LaMarra at today’s GenArt Shop LA event - and fell in love with her owl belt. Tried it on, couldn’t take it off. You know how it goes. I adore the owl design, and was delighted to hear she has all the pieces custom cast. More interesting is that her background is that of a wardrobe artist/stylist in film, music video and theatre - and then launched Kudra in 2003… she has a fascinating bio - “she got a job creating leather costumes for a George Michael video, the experience expanded her understanding of leather craftsmanship and quality.”

I’m currently kicking myself tonight for not having given in and gotten the purse below - what her site doesn’t tell you is that instead of that brass ring you can swap in the buckles (most work well except for my owl which would end up sideways! although that could be interesting) - and have a really unique gorgeous yet temporary combination… and i’m a big fan of something of such high quality giving you that kind of options.

Landmine

landmine.jpg
Andrea from KellerAdv sent me to their Klog, where i found this incredible ad for Landmine.de showing how landmines are “Constructed to Destroy” and shows you in a very scientific manner the layers of a soccer playing, baseball cap wearing, boy. Some great imagery on their Klog.

Gapminder

While we sit here and design and shop for luxury products, its nice to get that does of perspective on the world… Tan sent me this link to Gapminder - which has a great archive of flash presentations demonstrating the human development trends across the world over the last few years. The images above are from the United Nations Development Programme.

Strike Table

striketable.png
Ooooh cool idea from Sundae Best, which also brought you those incredible brass knuckle purses [also: there are some new models out that aer very cute]. But here we have the Strike Table - you provide your own balls - so any color/size/weight of your choice, but they recommend 14lb balls. And for a mere 875$ you can buy the high quality acrylic top. I’m posting this for concept’s sake.

Also you have to check out the new Tinkerbell Purse below as well as the new Knuckle purses!

Lelo

lelo.jpg
LELO is a Sweden-based company, founded in 2003, devoted to the design and development of sensual pleasure objects with contemporary luxury flair. By blending fashion, femininity, engineering and design, our aim is to create objects not just functional, but seductive in their own right. Lust objectified to inspire a positive and confident sexuality.” Beautiful site, sleek objects, gorgeous packaging. They have three models - the Lily in matte - the Nea with a porcelain like gloss finish and floral motifs - and the Yva in gold and silver. If these don’t say luxury, i don’t know what does. [These are certainly one-upping the previous designer sextoys we wrote about.]

GVisit

Plotted above are apparently the 100 most recent visitors (well recent to that one time a day they update)… by Gvisit. But its still a fun concept - and even seeing a tiny sample of the many readers, its fun to see the city list and see how it looks plotted on the world. Stumbled upon this, just trying it out to see how it looks - would be fun to find a way to plot every visitor! [From the look of it - this was a time when americans were awake and all our euro/asian readers hadn’t quite gotten up yet!] Best part though is anyone can input their website with no registration and check out their visitors locations! I’m a fan of the openess of the setup.

10 Corso Como

republic.jpg
If someone were ever to ask me what my dream come true would be - it would be for NOTCOT to reach a level like 10 Corso Como, my little piece of heaven in Milan. Incredible niche of a space, great cafe/restaurant/bar, gallery with incredible shows, best design/art/architecture/fashion/music store, and the ultimate in design/couture with a very NOTCOT kind of flair. Carla Sozzani is one of my idols (and i’m not the kind of girl who does the idol thing). But as NOTCOT readers - i beg you to read this interview with her in Republic, the Fritz Hansen mag [jump right to page 18]. Best quote “I prefer to make trends instead of following them. I’m very much against trends as they ruin your peace of mind. you can’t choose with the same happiness and joy if you’re thinking about what’s trendy… They come to feel good.” [this coming from a woman who shaped the italian fashion magazine industry.]

In addition to the content of this article - the page flipping/UI of LivePaper is one of the most beautiful/enjoyable web experiences i’ve had in a while.

Corkscrew

CorkScrewsuck.jpg
Ok - how did NONE OF YOU tell me about this? I feel slightly ashamed for having found it so late, even though i absolutely love Suck UK. [remember the old post? It was one of the very first!] It is perfect, the one missing component i’ve been actively searching for to complete my purse/travel necessities - their key bottle opener has been a regular on my keychain since i moved back to the states and don’t have my enormous italian keys anymore - and my leatherman wave covers anything else i could possibly need. So this folds up nice and sleek with no sharp bits to destroy your wallet/pockets/suitcases - has a little lock even, and hangs on your keychain! Someday i ought to post all my “purse” essentials - perhaps it will be a feature/discussion to come.
