Measure Leather Bracelet

measurebracelet.jpgBeing a sucker for seemingly useful multipurpose designs… i’m strangely drawn to these leather wrap bracelets from A.P.C.’s spring 08 collection. This “doubled centimitre bracelet” is 100% leather with a small metal buckle and a centimitre scale embossed on the outside and ‘A.P.C / WONDERWALL’ on the inside. (NotCouture #1372)Now if only they’d do one in inches as well?

Merdanchik

0116merdanchik1.jpgNOTCOT Note: Here’s another article from Anna Corpron of Sub-Studio!

I came across Merdanchik’s work online for the first time tonight and was immediately floored by his amazing illustrations. The colors he uses, the textures…and I’m very curious about the narrative behind the imagery! Unfortunately, I can’t find out much of anything about Merdanchik online, other than that he is a Russian artist with a really impressive body of work and client list. You can see more of his work on his two blogs, as well as on his flickr site. Any tips? Let me know!

The Writers Guild Strikes Matches

writersstrikes1.jpgI wandered into A+R last night, and *had* to take pictures of these Writers Guild Strikes vintage-esque matchboxes. The typography, pen nib/lightning, colors, and various angles with which to interpret every all the symbolism… For anyone that’s curious, these are not for sale, but for those who want to see them in person, these are in the A+R store on Abbot Kinney. As for the writer’s strike, its been a long nearly three months, here in LA especially, and i’m sure we’ve all been seeing the effects of the strike internationally - with the hold up on shows, awards shows, tv hosts ad libbing their own shows, etc… best of luck to them!

Party at the Smart House

smartbr2.jpgGood news, everyone! The Smart House has extended its stay in Venice beach till the end of February! (previously it was gone end of Jan). Now, i’ve told you about the Smart House before, as well as the Smart Balls (new ones after the jump!), but with every event the space looks so different, i had to share more images of it with you from tonight’s +Beryll event where i met Sigmar Berg who is not only the founder of this 10 year old line of sunglasses, jewelry, and vintage belt, but also an artist/designer/architect who created all of the photo-canvases covering the walls of the Smart House this evening! All three floors of this loft space were open - ground floor to explore the car, second floor to dine and dance, third floor had the dj and second balcony (with smart car on it!)… models wandered and danced around in black t-shirts bearing the Beryll ‘+’ and dark beryll shades, vintage belts, and the necklaces and jewelry… i also noticed more design details i loved about the Smart House this time, like this “open your mind” wall… So browse and experience the space through pictures after the jump!

iPhone NOTCOT Icons!

iphoneicons.jpgThere’s a little something special for anyone who adds the NOTCOT sites to their iPhones! So when you save a Web Clip of NOTCOT.com, NOTCOT.org, TasteSpotting, or NotCouture ~ we’ve designed custom Web Clip icons for each of them! And for those of you who haven’t checked out org, tastespotting, and notcouture on an iPhone yet, it looks pretty sweet! Also, i made a quick walkthrough of how to put a Web Clip on your Home Screen after the jump… much shorter than the long update video.

Vans Finger Fracture on iPhone

fingerfracture.jpgOoooh a sneak peek at potentially a new reason for me to be amused by the iPhone (currently iPhysics is still my main source of iphone amusement)… but imagine if this sneak peek of a Vans Finger Fracture Skateboarding game for iPhone is real? Spotted over at the trendwatch - you can rate and view the project at NewCreatives, art direction by David Aronson & Juri Zaech for agency: Miami Ad Shool Europe… more presentation snippets after the jump, click to view larger!

Winplus Yada at CES

yada.jpgOn unexpected discoveries at CES ~ i first got pulled right into Winplus’ Yada’s booth from its crazy giant white painted frames filling a wall… each filled with what turned out to be bluetooth headsets and holders! And their space was a bright glowingly white that draws you right into it, with playful lights hanging from a grid above… and an adorable Yada Mini Cooper in there as well. Naturally it was making it onto my favorite booth list, but what i didn’t expect was to be completely intrigued with their affordable, nicely thought out design bluetooth headsets and accessories. The Yada YD-V1 ultra lightweight headset, universal phone holder, multiple car mounting options, car charger and home charger is only a mere $46 at amazon. Affordable and adorable, the thing i liked most was how compact their products were… and i kind of want the cupcake looking car adapter for my cup holder. Also look how sleek the car charger is? Why waste more space then necessary with cables? Same with their USB solution. Nice simple speakerphones as well. Anyhow, take a look at pics i took of the booth and products at CES… as for sound quality, i have no idea… but i’m curious enough at that price, to impulse buy one from amazon to find out.

LaCie Little Disk

laciebaby.jpgOn more designer lust-worthy tech from La Cie ~ the latest is this La Cie Little Disk tiny glossy 30/40GB disk designed by Sam Hecht that has an integrated USB and protective cap. Coming in at a mere 3 oz. and 2.64 x 1.69 x .67 in… it’s just a smidge larger than the size of your classic Zippo lighters which are about 2 x 1 x .5 in… only thing missing? If only they’d stick an SD card slot next to that USB space! Unfortunately there are no pictures of the “carrying case” that is included in the box, i’m curious to see what they think you should be toting this tiny disk around in. More close ups after the jump… (also, how creepy is their hand model?)

To Be Us A Matter Of Toys

woodycars0.jpg On simple toys often being the best ~ To Be Us’ A Matter Of Toys (what a company/product line name) cars are adorable. AND handmade… (pictures of the making of after the jump!)

From the To Be Us site:
“Handmade in Italy - To be Us is craftsmanlike product, entirely handmade. A one size block of wood, a single cut that shapes the sports car, the romantic one, the pick-up, the saloon , the security van. To be Us products are made of cedar of Lebanon: a dense, spicy and long-lasting wood. Its peculiar scent has a natural anti-moths effect. Wheels are made of mahogany: a hard, dense and yet easy to work wood showing also a very fine and precious grain. No paints are used on To be Us toys. To be Us products are designed by Matteo Ragni, Giulio Iacchetti and Odoardo Fioravanti. and handmade by Master Giovanni.”

A Measuring Gaggle

measuringcup.jpgOn adorable twists to the usual measuring cups, i was looking for the black and white giraffe measuring cups on black.white.bliss and they don’t seem to be on the Anthropologie site anymore… perhaps you can get lucky in a store (picture after the jump of the adorableness!)… but while looking i did find this nestable gaggle of geese measuring cups!

Handpresso

handpresso.jpgHandpresso… i’ve been intrigued by this french contraption since i first laid eyes on it over at Acquire a few days ago (i haven’t a clue why i’ve taken so long writing/editing this post bit by bit). And their ads crack me up ~ particularly the one with the french couple in a movie theater trying to be all suggestive while pumping up the espresso, getting the cups ready, etc. It’s a beautiful contraption that looks like a nicely design mini bike pump you feed a packet of espresso (the premade type - pics below) and some hot water into for a perfectly brewed cup of espresso? I’m skeptical, but curious… see pics and videos after the jump as well as some of the accessories you can buy to go with.

MacWorld a bad UX

macworld1.jpgWow. So for those of you, who like me stayed at home and watched the macworld keynote and madness unfold across the internet through the eyes and ears of the crazy kids at Gizmodo and Engadget with their live blogging of the keynote, etc… here’s a peek at what its like to REALLY be there ~ not as press, just as regular people trying to partake in the mac madness. So dan actually decided to go to the keynote this year (for “fun”), went and spent ages in line yesterday to get his pass, and then got in line at 6:30am this morning (and as you know from our sites, we aren’t morning people, unless it’s because i’m not sleeping till 6am) in the 40 degree weather… and didn’t even make it into the keynote. But that aside, the madness continued as all those turned away tried to make a mad rush for food and warmth after only found themselves in MORE freezing lines, like a half hour just to get into Mel’s diner (which is most certainly not really worth waiting in line for at any other given time)… Seems like apple needs to take care of its fans a bit more? Get a bigger venue? Be more realistic earlier on about who will get in? So although he didn’t get any pics while in the freeeeeezing cold this morning, he did just send over a few quick pics of the rush and sea of mac fanboys running around… let’s just say i’m glad to be home right now, and if he ever tries to do this again, and you guys want us to cover it, maybe i’ll apply for a press pass? More pictures of the sea of humanity after the jump!

MacBook Air

macbookair.jpgWe all want it. We have to. Right? And i do have a soft spot for manilla envelopes… Does anyone else think of air jordans when they hear macbook air though? The naming on this stuff kills me. Also the user experience of their whole keynote/macworld expo is apparently quite possibly the worst user experience ever… But for now. It looks pretty cute, and the music video for the song in the ad is quite possibly the cutest thing i’ve been woken up with… see it below! I would love to have her box on the water… and as far as packaging goes, i’m going to be sad if i open the box for this and it’s not in a manilla envelope… oh and apparently it’s completely sealed, has no ram slots, no battery replacement, its just like a ginormous ipod… i mean small laptop. same diff - only 2 gigs ram… no ethernet port…

UPDATED 1.15.8 at 12:50: We have hands on pics of the MacBook Air ~ detail shots added after the jump!

Design Police

dp1.jpgThe Design Police want to “Bring bad design to justice.” and they have even provided a Visual Enforcement Kit to help you with your vigilante justice… whether you choose to make that in the form of stickers, stencils, etc… Personally i’m liking the design of the original stickers of the Design Police Guerilla Campaign in Stephen’s portfolio even more! See more imagery after the jump!

1988 A Tribute to Stan Lee

stanleeins.jpgWho hasn’t been incredibly inspired by the infamous Stan Lee? Due to CES, i missed the opening of the Gallery 1988 Under the Influence: A Tribute to Stan Lee… and it looks like an INCREDIBLE show, from many NOTCOT favorites like Luke Chueh, Jason Sho Green, Camilla d’Errico, Kurt Halsey Frederiksen, Dan Goodsell, and more! Take a look here for the full show, and see after the jump for my favorites!
