Founded in 2005, NOTCOT Inc is a growing network of design sites currently including NOTCOT.com and innovative community contributed sites NOTCOT.org + NotCouture.com + Tasteologie.com + Liqurious.com + NotVentures.com (+ previously TasteSpotting.com).
NOTCOT is a visual filtration of ideas + aesthetics + amusements. NOTCOT's two sites have become the daily sources of inspiration for creatives everywhere, fighting the good fight against "creative block" since 2005 with visually stunning imagery, the latest in international trends, and a passion for all things well designed.
NOTCOT.ORG is a community of creatives, design lovers, and trendsetters - where .org serves as the studio bulletin board gone digital - each image and caption brings you to a place worth visiting. It's about sharing what inspires you. Bookmarks, del.icio.us, digg, blogrolls, etc. make you read, search and think. This is the PICTUREBOOK to their novel. NOTCOT.COM is the editorial face of NOTCOT, offering in-depth features on products, artists, technology, innovation, and up-and-coming trends.
With the addition of NotCouture, Tasteologie, Liqurious, and NotVentures what more could one need. NotCouture keeps you looking your best, as users find the latest and greatest in fashion and beauty for men and women. (And don't be fooled, this is a designer's take on fashion, not just the usuals in every magazine you see.) Tasteologie and Liqurious give your palate and appetite constant inspiration. And NotVentures let's you travel with your eyes and inspires where your jetsetting can take you next!
Founders, Jean Aw and Daniel Frysinger, are user experience obsessives (her background being a masters in interaction/ux design and his a BA in HCI/CS and currently working for one of the few internet giants). When chatting with users, the one word most frequently used to describe our system is ADDICTIVE. Sites featured get quite a burst of traffic when featured on the sites due to the user behavior when browsing conditioning readers to click on images that intrigue them. As for contributions, we've lowered the bar on how much work is necessary to share a great post (all you need is an image, a link, and a blurb/caption)... and through our editorial boards posts are quickly scanned and most move to the front page. We have new features in the works, and the platform is our pet project that has been far more successful than expected on multiple levels.
This is probably the most asked question when people meet me in person. So here goes... remember that search engine HotBot? Back in the late 90s? Well, they used to have free emails, and one very very late high school night (kind of like this 5:30am as i write this), i got bored and made NOTCOT at HOTBOT DOT com. See? It rhymed, and was very Dr. Seuss a la Hop On Pop. And from there, it just ended up the name i used for all digital and artistic handles. And it has a nice symmetry visually. And people come up with great potential meanings for it. Yes, really, that's it.
