Click the images to find out more! And as always - TasteSpotting and NotCouture roundups after the jump! Here are the most popular 25 posts over at NOTCOT.org this week! I’m still up in norcal, but theoretically heading back down to LA in a few hours… see some of the deliciousness on tastespotting and notcouture below - the bacon bra is particularly horrifying/fascinating.
Click the images to find out more! Roundup Time! I just found out tomorrow was a bank holiday… apparently its Caesar Chavez Day? So i guess its a long weekend! (Not that life on the internet really takes weekends.) Anyhow, its been a fun week across the network, with everything from - skulls hidden in black and white line drawings, a hilarious record of a hipster teaching you “how to speak hip”, a viral game in the making where you tilt your laptop to drive a motorcycle, a man with the patience to drill insane holes into egg shells, elephants carrying spy cams, backless bras that atatch like a baby carrier, egg filled nest cupcakes, and so much more… see the full roundups after the jump!
…and for TasteSpotting news, the Daring Bakers have just struck again with their latest March Challenge: Dorie’s Perfect Party Cake, and the best are popping up as we speak… fascinating to see how all these different people have interpreted the same recipe.
Click the images to find out more! ~ and being a roundup of roundups, get your quick fix of this weeks fashion and food after the jump as well! (Courtesy of NotCouture and TasteSpotting) Fun to see that a lot of the most popular posts on .org this week seem to be some of the .com posts… and those terribly creeeeeeeeepy Pixeloo renders of Mario and Homer if they were real humans with their cartoon anatomy… freaky stuff! I am scared to see what they take on next…
Happy Pi Day ~ and for all of you who wonder where all these crazy posts and ideas and inspiration come from… well for the sake of my amusement, here’s something silly i ended up with tonight (blame the lack of sleep and insanity that is LA this week… also Linhchi brought me a sun jar and combine that with my vinyl cutter…. ) Naturally all the craziness that you see propagating across the network comes from somewhere! But where? My glowing jar full of NOTCOTs! (Whatever a NOTCOT may be, that, as surprising as it is to most, is still quite unknown). So for today’s random project, NOTCOTs are like fireflies, visual manifestations of all the crazy inspiration lighting us up?
Ok, so basically, Sun Jar+ Vinyl Cutter = Jar of NOTCOTs (and this will probably continue to evolve into other ideas…) Also, on Sun Jars, although i’ve gifted and recommended these solar powered glowing jars often, this is the first time i’ve been gifted one! And i must say for the next one i gift, i will ditch the packaging, personalize it in some subtle way for the recipient, and present it as simply the jar, with a beautiful ribbon to tie a notecard on. See more pics below! (also the dissection of my sun jar…)
I guess some people noticed it got a little quiet today… well, i kind of spontaneously hopped a flight to Toronto to see some old friends (awesome designers, i’m sure you’ll hear more about soon, especially since they inspire me with incredible design finds/inspiration and are quickly catching me up on the Toronto Design scene) for the weekend, and check out IDS08 and the city for the first time… and really, i just need a little breather, things have been a bit intense the last few months/year! And i’m sure i’ll have much to share soon, but for now i’m not sure what time it is to my body, and it seems to think i should sleep since there’s much snow on the ground and its quite dark!
Please play nice over at .org, etc! I hear some of the reports weren’t so nice today! Dan is trying to help cover for me as a favor till sunday… please feel free to help by posting the great stuff inspiring you that i might be missing, being afk for longer than usual!
Click the pics to find out more! Here we have another roundup of roundups ~ a full on best of last week showcasing 24 of the most popular from all of our sites below… and above we have lots of fun art, and a row of green themed foods. Why? Its just what inspired me as i flipped through a few pages this sunday! Oh, and if you haven’t checked out Adam’s Apple, that’s a must! Brilliant illustrations coupled with quite the unexpectedly twisted creation tale.
RANDOMIZER! Also new, we’ve been working on/tweaking this new feature, and its getting there ~ new buttons are up on all the sites now (see the cute little push pinned polaroid stacks?). I begged dan to make me this one for a while, because with nearly 10,000 posts on NOTCOT.org and TasteSpotting, there is so much incredible stuff, its hard to keep track of everything, so when you just feel like something random and inspiring, perhaps a blast from the past or even something you might have missed… just click the stack! Personally i’ve lost hours browsing randomly.
Click the pics to see more! Whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, Romance, Love, Sex, Spooning, Chocolates and more… apparently NOTCOT.org has you covered this pseudo-holiday. Also Fabulist found a great little video of our favorite, Ze Frank, rambling on the occasion, which i have embedded below for your viewing pleasure. (Beware, he actually blinks!)
Roundup time! Trying something new again ~ i LOVE the roundups, i think its such a nice way to get a condensed speedy overview of what’s been going on across the curated user submissions sites (NOTCOT.org, TasteSpotting, and NotCouture), but i’ve been finding myself quite torn. I just don’t love the look of NOTCOT.com being cluttered with so many roundups on the front page at one time… yet there is so much awesome stuff on all the sites, i can’t bear to pick one of the three… anyhow, so here’s the new idea. Above you see three rows of 5 of my favorites across the sites! And after the jump you can see the top 24 from the last week of all three sites! So as always: Click the pics to find out more! and yes TasteSpotting’s row is themed for people who might need some Valentine’s inspiration.
Happy Super Tuesday! GO VOTE! If you haven’t already done so… and when you do… don’t forget your CAMERA! Because DesignObserver, AIGA, and the NYTimes have teamed up once again for the “Polling Place Photo Project”, which is exactly what it sounds like, “a nationwide experiment in citizen journalism that encourages voters to capture, post and share photographs of this year’s primaries, caucuses and general election. By documenting local voting experiences, participants can contribute to an archive of photographs that captures the richness and complexity of voting in America.” So you can see my contributions to the project here, and more images after the jump! GO VOTE ALREADY!
Click the images to see the posts! So continuing on my new tradition of roundups across the network on weekends (it is kind of nice to see what was popular the week before) ~ here is whats been going on over at NOTCOT.org! Looks like, as expected, sex, or the implication of sex, always wins… and Juno (best movie in a long time!) has been popular… as well as the genius decapitation street artist!
You’re running out of time! For all the xmas shoppers out there ~ good luck with the crowds and madness in the real world. It seems like you only really have today left to be ordering online where you can still cross your fingers and hope for it to show up with
Santa Mr. UPS and/or Ms. FedEx by xmas day. SO here’s an insane collage of all 30 gift guides to date… with over 350 items. *phew*. Last one drops tomorrow!
The footers for NOTCOT.org and TasteSpotting are now live and actually showing the latest posts on the other sites in mini-form! I designed these a few months ago, but didn’t have the time/resources to get them coded to show you the latest, so i’d been making them by hand in the interim… and now that Dan has joined me full time to work on our sites, this is the first of many exciting new features and ideas we’re working on! So next time you’re checking out the sites, take a look at the far bottom to see what is new across the network! (and if you have ideas for other features we may not have thought of, feel free to leave a note)
