Some fun highlights from this year’s Experimental Food Society Spectacular exhibition housed in Brick Lane’s Old Truman Brewery! How could we not check out an event that boasted “an awe‐inspiring assemblage of jellymongers, sonic food artists, one‐of‐a‐kind dining conceptualists, cake sculptors, food landscape artists and food magicians”? There were some amazing cakes (including a dodo!), beautiful pieces created from chocolate as well as incredible quail egg cakes (made both from and in the eggs!) and medicinal marshmallows. On fun contraptions that might make kitchen life a tiny bit simpler, i’m liking these Orange Juice Makers and Flash Chill Lemonade Makers from Takeya. Simple swappable screw top lids allow you to juice right into the container before you serve or pop it into the fridge! See more pics of them in action on the next page.
Amazing. Cooking just got way more fun ~ Jackson has been going nuts with some awesome Tasteologie Features as of late ~ and today’s is AWESOME. Baking with CLAY. Smashing it open! And poof — chicken! A full chicken! And another in bread! Equally satisfying… you have to see the pics of the chickens in action!
p.s. So… ca i build a whole clay scene atop the chicken before baking? or have other clay pods attached cooking OTHER things to smash open? Hmmmm… the possibilities!

The launch was celebrated with a party at their studio/lab near Borough. With ‘Cocktails, Snakes and Ether’ on the invite, I couldn’t resist checking things out and taking a peek inside the studio where all the magic happens! As Sam promised, there was indeed a medieval castle (complete with separate tower for the saxophonist, an abundance of cocktails from the new book served in an assortment of glasses, teacups and jam jars as well as a wide range of curiosities from Hendrick’s (penny farthings, scrimshaw and more!). It was also great to see some props from previous events we’ve attended and a glimpse into future projects (delectable elderflower/chili candy pills!). As always with Bompas & Parr, there were surprises everywhere, even in the bathroom, which was transformed a glitter snake pit/privy! More photos on the next page!
The latest international fashion designer Evian limited edition just launched, and for 2011 the glass bottle is decorated with André Courrèges’ emblematic flower that was created in 1967. I love that each Limited Edition keeps the same spirit: reinventing a rare and festive moment, that is to say an optimistic vision of celebration and most of all the idea that “Youth is not a matter of age, it is a mindset”. ~ So true, isn’t it? Also, every time i see Evian, i can’t help thinking its Naive backwards.
So on youthfulness, the bottle felt like it needed a fun fresh background ~ so i climbed up the jacaranda tree out front with it for this quick shoot just before running off to the airport. Needing to hydrate pre-flight, i even drank the bottle on the ride over. And am sharing this from you from the airport lounge! Ready to see close ups of the bottles? Everything from the fun bottle cap to the message included with it, to the history of limited editions that have come before is on the next page!
Just did a superpost feature over at Tasteologie showcasing some fun pics from a quick wander through the Whole Foods Beer Section. There is always so much amusing and beautiful graphic design going on with the labels and boxes! And also a look at a cube of octopus from the cover of Gastronomica….

I never thought i’d pop open my freezer and grab mini frozen 911s, Caymans, Cayennes and Panameras to chill my drink. Or create little traffic jams with… and watch them melt. Or… freeze little people inside of them to have drivers and passengers? Or… make mini chocolate Porsches?
So when tasked to share Unexpected Combinations with Downy ~ these Porsche Driver’s Selection Ice Cube Trays were hard to pass up. Amongst all the luxurious goodies and automobiles both super old and futuristically new at Monterey Auto Week, the one thing i impulsively bought as soon as walking into the madness of Concours d’Elegance was this ice cube tray! And while they are more cookie cutter silhouettes with slight patterns on them (which melt off way too fast) ~ they are still pretty fun! Though i’m now tempted to make silicon molds of my old hot wheels for more accurate ice cube trays! Check out the fun i had with them on the next page!
