You know the drill, click the pics to see more! Munchies? I’ve been getting in this terrible habit of finding myself at TasteSpotting when i get late night snack cravings… so instead of indulging tonight, just rounding up some of the fun enticing food options! Sweet dreams.
Chocolate combined with beautifully sculpted animals AND proceeds to aid WSPA, the world society for the protection of animals? That fits what we’re all about pretty perfectly. Walteria Living’s Endangered Species Chocolates designed by Kathleen Walsh and Anita Mothersbaugh are part of their new HMS (her majesty’s ship) Collection. Each box contains a Pygmy Hippopotamus, Mountain Gorilla, and Koala Bear. The series makes reference to consumption with an emphasis on conservation education. See close ups below for the incredible attention to detail in these chocolates, as much as i may love chocolate, these may just be too beautiful to consume.
Click the images to see more!. Mmmmmm. Cinnamon Rolls. Ok this weeks roundup ~ i wanted to give you guys a little insight on how hard editing submissions can sometimes become. When i started TasteSpotting, the vision was to create a gorgeously drool worthy space filled with delectable delights… and we were excited to have ANY submissions at all. But as with all things, evolution is inevitable… and scaling, necessary. So as the visual/designy side of the site (and yes, we all know i’m quite the newbie when it comes to food)… trends have become even more apparent on TasteSpotting than any of the others lately, and it’s put editing in a hard place. For example… this week, EVERYONE seems to be cooking delicious cinnamon rolls! 5 of the posts are up there, and even more were in submissions that didn’t make it up… this is where it is no longer a problem about whether the image and post are things we love, but whether it is interesting and stand out enough as a Cinnamon Roll post. Because as you can imagine, a front page of 30 cinnamon roll pictures isn’t exactly what people come to TasteSpotting to see. Other trends? Last week mooncakes were showing up in full force. Then there was the heirloom tomato trend before that. Pomegranates have been popular lately too. Basically when a trend organically appears, we try not to let it take over the site TOO much, and the standards tend to raise on that theme. Anyhow, i just wanted to let you all know, and see whether people had any ideas or opinions on how we should handle this. Our goal is to showcase some of the most beautiful and interesting selections of links daily to whet your palate… how do we handle the possibility of having TOO MANY posts a day? Is there such a thing?
Also part of the OPOS.it 2007 exhibition tackling the concept of “old” ~ this is Oooh! Design’s Ooold Whisky Wrinkle Bottle. Also, you have to visit their website to hear their Ooooooh! sound effect as the page loads. Made me smile. But, back to the bottle. We all know that when it comes to alcohol and waters, the packaging really is 90% of things. (Yes yes, taste matters too, but once you’ve found your selection of great tastes, what makes you pick the bottle off the shelf? Exactly.) This bottle design manages to add so much character to the whisky itself through its “aged” wrinkles. Can’t you envision a full line of these with various degrees of wrinkling depending on age? Or that botox’d LA bottle that confuses you a bit? (Tastes like a 40 year old, bottle looks like 18?).
“Wrinkle Bottle is a packaging project that dramatically highlight an intrinsic peculiarity of high quality spirits: the aging. The realistic reproduction of human wrinkles engraved on the bottle, ironically puts up the long years that make precious a spirit. It’s at the same time object decoration and information about the product. It’s a way to emphasize the quality of the spirit and a fine object with strong decorative valence, ideal for high level products.”

“Inspired by the purity of Evian water, and the beauty of the french alps, the exquisite Evian Palace Bottle is available in restaurants and brings a heightened level of luxury to fine dining occasions.” More interesting than the fact that evian is fighting the anti-bottled water world (and all those fine dining establishments that will now offer you triple filtered tap water, etc) ~ are these interesting details… there is a pourer built into the cap! And a sleek coaster to catch the condensation! Also similar to the giant glass bottle that showed up last year, the Holiday 2007 bottle (last time with a hot pink top) is back in glistening gold.
There are hookahs/shishas and then there is the Narguile by Nedda El-Asmar for Parisian Airdiem. I can’t imagine a more enticing hookah for the design set… it screams luxe, and the minimalist shape is just beautiful… also the details like the black and white tubes, interchangeable mouth pieces, brown carrying case, and even special tweezers for the coals.

Muzi Tea ~ as incredibly good for you the tea is… i’m smitten by the accessories and the vibrant green color of the tea powder… also the packaging of the gift sets! (see below). And take a look at their new chocolates, i love how seemingly random the pieces break off (unlike those perfect Hershey’s rectangles, where’s the fun in that?). For the complete process you need the whisk and whisk holder (what great curves), the bowl, and the tea. Take a look at the gift pack below, beautiful minimalist packaging.

So here is a pile of delicious looking pictures i loved from TasteSpotting to inspire you to go hunt and forage for some gorgeous delectable delights this weekend.
Pocket Shot… just got imed a link to Wired’s blurb on these single serving alcohol packets. And it just made me laugh… especially when you see how poor the design on their page is… but this Wired image makes them look pretty sweet. Once you get past considering every situation where you would use these, sneak these in, recycle these, refill these, etc. This is an interesting packaging design to consider. And sadly, look below to see their various displays (as well as what was apparently a Maxim party)! Currently i can see these next to the gummi bears by the gas station cash register… can’t you imagine a classier sleeker designed version? The concept has so much potential ~ team up with real brands, replace the mini bottles/flasks, alcohol in space? But visually there really was much that could be done here… the inspiration? “Pocket Shot developer Jarrold Bachmann devised the idea for the product after seeing the workers at his farm in South Africa buy simple, crude 25 ml plastic sachets of alcohol to celebrate payday.”
It was only a matter of time… all trendy ingredients seem to end up some kind of liquid beverage. So its almost impressive we’re finally getting one featuring Goji Berries… Gloji - in two mixes: Gloji Mix which is part goji and part pomegranate, for all your antioxidant overdosing - and Gloji Gold which is “100% Pure Premium Power” - from wild grown goji berries, ripe harvested from the lower desert of Tibet. “Drink in the power of the most potent antioxidant known to man.”
Ok ok, but honestly, we both know why this is being posted… that’s some awesome packaging they’ve got going on. The light bulb bottle is a *brilliant* idea, and i’m curious to see one in person… is it completely rounded? Does it sit flat on a table? Or does it have a special stand?
If you recall Fusion Brands’ Food Loop that i wrote about back in December of 2005… It just came to my attention that they’ve REALLY expanded the line… and there are some very impressive colorful brilliant uses of silicon to add more color to your kitchen. There is now a Mini Food Loop… a Poach Pod (boil water, and float this with an egg in it)… the Food Loop Lace (letting you play surgeon with silicon thread and built in needle)… the Drizzle Stick (prettier than any honey stick i’ve seen in a while)… the Cook Hook (magnetic clasp with a hook… an alternative to my use of cable ties to create loops on the dish towels)… and the Tender Press (to tenderize and flatten). Sauces ‘n Love ~ my recent packaging discovery at the market… although not the ONLY reason i purchase something, its definitely big on my first impressions, so i grabbed this Sauces ‘n Love Tuscan Vodka Scarpetta, and was pleased to see that they come in these nice Re-usable screw cap plastic containers that are microwave, freezer, and diswasher safe! Also nice clean typography on the label ~ and its “Healthy ‘n Love - Gluten Free. Vegetarian. No Sugar. No Preservatives. Low count on Carbs, fat, and choesterol.” And the best part ~ this sauce was incredible. So fresh and delicious. Mmmmm… Close up images of the labels and container below!
