Cherri Wood: Some Kind Of Wonderful- 02.06.09

cherri1.jpgOn shows i wish i could go see in person ~ the SF Gallery 1988 has Some Kind Of Wonderful opening tonight, and i was just checking out the pieces online. This group show looks incredible! And in particular i’m loving the work of Cherri Wood (aka Fy Simone) is a 19 year old illustrator based in Minnesota, USA. ~ with her girls viewed from the back floating on paper… her style of watercolour, acrylic, and graphite on paper is just mesmerizing, and they really stand out both on their own and in the set… See them all on the next page, and if you’re in SF, definitely go check out the show!

p.s.
i love the way she signs with what looks like a thumbprint…

I love her style. Ink splattering is one of my favorite techniques. I’m using Cherri Wood for a project I was assigned in which we have to find an artists whose style is similar to ours or to our artistic preferences and do research on them, and then develope our own peice pulling influences from that artist.

it is beautiful, but very reminiscent of asian horror movies, so also very creepy. But i like her use of space and yes, the thumbprint signature!

I really dig these!! Really cool—love the technique!

Absolutely wonderful. The seem to convey levity, but there’s a dark method in the illustration’s media. Very intriguing juxtaposition.

I really like how the pieces are displayed so casually — just pieces of paper hanging from clips on the wall. Very simple, but somehow still elegant. Inspires me to start hanging stuff around my house that I’ve been “waiting” to have framed…
