Rock Creek, Mammoth Lakes Adventures

0-main.jpg We recently disconnected from the world (and our technology) and disappeared up to Rock Creek up in the Mammoth Lakes area at the foothills of the Sierras. About a 5 hour drive from Los Angeles, 4 humans and 2 dogs went to go play in the woods! It dumped snow the first night we got in, but luckily it started after we were tucked away in our cabin - and the NOTpuppy, Bucky was lucky to catch his first taste of snow (which he LOVED jumping chest deep into) and the last snow of the season. The highlight was definitely good times with good friends and a chance to watch the dogs run free - frolicking through the streams and meadows till they just couldn’t handle anymore… which resulted in coming home and sleeping for a few days! Along the way we also found some amazing jerky, delicious pie, and had a near catastrophe with some flying carrion. Take a peek at the adventures (and a taste for what the NOTFZJ80 will hopefully lead to!) on the next page!

Laser Challenge #1: Puppy Platter

buckybowl0.gif Our NOTlabs Laser Challenge #1 is here from Shawn! As for what the Laser Challenge is - the ground rules are: Shawn and I are alternating days with executing and sharing a Laser Cutter involved experiment! And most importantly - we’re supposed to have fun, explore ideas, and it’s less about a fully formed product/concept at the end of the day, but more about seeing where the experiment takes us!

So first up, here’s Shawn’s Puppy Platter… which, honestly, didn’t have this function in mind until his experiment with heating and pressing some of our plastic scraps ended up with a fun sheet filled with various mini bowl like spaces… He initially thought about planting succulents in them, but we quickly realized this would be better served if we made a much larger version. And with Bucky’s feeding time nearing, we decided to try it out as a modern Puppy Platter/Bento Box of sorts! (Don’t worry, we won’t be feeding Bucky from this regularly - the photos are a quick photoshoot test!) It is fascinating to see which of his treats and food choices he picked and in which order… also great, it slows him down as he carefully inspected and sniffed each section before devouring it! (Versus scarfing it down without much thought!)

As for where the laser cutting is involved… take a peek at the process pics on the next page… laser cutting was used to create the frame around the plastic sheet as it was being pressed. Check out Bucky trying out this modern Puppy Platter on the next page!

p.s. If you have ideas, or want some laser cutting done, or want to play with us… feel free to use the contact form or leave a comment!

Fancy Paws: Behind the Scenes

nfancy1.jpg Everything and everyone says that you need to expose your puppies to as much as possible ~ so when Sarah told us about Fancy Paws photoshoot to benefit NKLA, we HAD to bring Bucky! And at around 5 months old, he was (and still is) in full on puppy mode… only around 50 pounds these days… and with new people! new dogs! new spaces! new TOYS! and new treats! and things being attached to him… you can imagine how excited he got! So, huge thanks to the amazing Sarahs (Yates and Sherman Samuel) for wrangling and calming our pup for some fun photos that capture his wild energy that day (tongue is out an all in most pics!) See the adventures on the next page!

Torani Chicken 'N Waffles Syrup

torani0.jpg The last thing i expected for Black Friday, was to be curled up on the couch sipping a “Southern Fried Cocktail” while Bucky, the NOTpuppy, lay at my feet chew/squeaking a chicken leg dog toy. But here we are - and it’s amusingly delicious and bizarre!

Backtracking a bit - if you remember April Fool’s earlier this year, Torani (i thought jokingly) said that if enough people wanted a Chicken ‘n Waffles flavored syrup, they would “make it real”… and they DID! A bottle of it just arrived today along with waffle mix, a dog toy chicken leg (clearly sending fried chicken would be too crazy), and recipes! I must say the smell is unique - the flavor is powerful - and it tastes better than expected mixed with bourbon and root beer… though i would suggest going a little lighter than suggested on the Torani Chicken ‘N Waffles Syrup. Take a peek at the fun bundle on the next page - as well as Bucky enjoying the chicken leg!

P.S. if you’re looking for other crazy flavors to spice things up, they also have Bacon, Pumpkin Pie, Caramel Apple, Butter Rum, Choc Chip Cookie Dough, Cupcake, Gingerbread, Red Velvet Cake, Kiwi, Toasted Marshmallow, and so much more.
