Inspiration: Nashville + Project House (V)

house00.jpg

This may be the last update before the house reveal! We’re that close to having it all done! Subdivision is finally in and accepted and we’re just waiting on them to register the mylar!!! We drove out 3 months ago to buy a house and now we’re nearly headed home to LA with a house and two pieces of land! It’s surreal - but a hell of a learning experience. We took no short cuts on this project and really dove in to learn as much as reasonable - we joke that it’s been a summer of Nashville internships! But we’re going home with far more knowledge and experience that we’re just itching to apply to more of our creative projects to come! So take a peek at the latest house updates and some of the other Nashville randomness on the next page!

Inspiration: Nashville + Project House (IV)

nashnat0.jpg

Yes - here’s yet ANOTHER one of our Nashville + Project House Instagram filled updates, but less house this time, as we’re in a little bit of a holding pattern and needed a bit of a break as we wait for flooring to arrive, and we focused on sorting out surveying, prepping for a planning commission meeting, hiring a gardener and more. The in betweens house work however, have been filled with more natural inspiration (the colors here are SO different from LA!), more attempts to find new shops and spots that inspire, and diving into the history of Nashville through vintage maps!!! Ready to take a peek? To the next page!

Inspiration: Nashville + Project House (II)

nashupdate0.jpg

Yes, believe it or not, we’re STILL in Nashville - and still happy, exhausted, and working our butts off on the NOTCOT Nashville Project House! It’s been such a fun adventure - like construction summer camp? Or like a contractor apprenticeship? It’s been a such a fun way to get out of our heads, escape our stresses, and just dive in head first on a new project that is so physically and mentally challenging… all while exploring and distracting myself with all the newness to discover and get inspired by in a new city. Even though Shawn grew up here - this city is changing SO fast, there’s lots i’m dragging him around to discover too! So between the posts i’ve shared so far, here’s a look at some of the smaller inspirations and discoveries since the last @NOTlabs Instagram Nashville Inspiration post… see the adventures on the next page!

Inspiration: Nashville

nash00.jpg

Nashville adventures!!! It has been an amazing vacation to getaway and just get excited and explore a city that has become another home away from home. Being Shawn’s hometown, we get back there somewhat regularly, but it isn’t every trip that we have time to run around and see what’s new - you’ve seen some of our Nashville and Memphis finds here and even more Nashville discoveries here, but this the longest trip we’ve had to run around and relax yet!

So take a peek on the next page for a taste of what we enjoyed - from visiting maker/design studios to incredible murals, taking in some music at the new amphitheater, trying new coffee trends, visiting cute shops and more…

7 days in 50 Instagrams: Guatemala!

gua0.jpg WOW. What an adventure our week in Guatemala has been! Headed down to Antigua for our Tasteologie editor’s wedding, so of course we had to explore a bit while there, but the amount of different experiences we’ve had still blows my mind. From landing in darkness at GUA and watching the sunrise (and volcano erupt a little) on our drive to Antigua, to exploring (and tasting) Antigua, to the beautiful wedding and before/after events… to heading out to Lake Atitlan and the stunning waterfront, super-eco, all vegetarian Laguna Lodge on 100 acres of nature reserve… to a pit stop at Iximche ruins… back in to Guatemala City, where we end up getting an amazing look at the city thanks to one of our long time readers (and old friend’s of the bride!)… from a peek at the older city center, to the newest city within a city, Paseo Cayala… tasting award winning Guatemalan coffee and even more fantastic food at Flor de Lis… before heading back to LA.

OH! And there are penguins! You know our Puma Penguins (from 2009) - they inspired PingĂĽi, the mascot of Flor de Lis! Which is even tattooed on the chef’s forearm! But more on that later…

So first things first - here’s a look at our quick, epic Guatemalan adventures in 50 @NOTlabs and @RShawnSims Instagrams as it all happened in real time. My head is still spinning from how many different things we’ve seen and experienced - and HUGE congrats to Jackson + Tish on their special super-pi-day wedding! Yay for 3.14 15!
