Talking Shuffle

shuffle.jpg For scale... check out the size of that shuffle next to all the randomness under my monitors... its about the height of that veuve grand dame cork... So as you can see, i gave in and got one of the tiny gum stick looking new buttonless ipod shuffles. And it's so tiny, and adorably simple, and comes with mini apple stickers! So take a peek at the unboxing and the cute instructional graphics too on the next page...

p.s.
Yes, it does suck that you can't use other headphones i suppose, BUT it's pretty fun to make it talk to you... my latest addiction is having RadioLover download streaming radio i miss (it even breaks it up into songs! I've been dling lots of Indie 103.1 lately)... so this is perfect! I can load up radio i missed, and when i dont know what song it is, it can tell me!

Not Your Usual Zune Review

zune1.jpgSecret: after CES, i kind of wanted to love the Zune. Well i got curious enough to want to play with one at least... they've been doing great things with the arts community (i really do love those crazy Zune Arts animations - and their artist collaborations for Zune designs are fun), they've been supporters of NOTCOT with advertising, and the packaging/design details/UI were intriguing... i really do like the font they use on their main interface, and the way it glows as you scroll around! But sadly, much like the ratings option they give you... i'm going to have to rate the experience so far with a 'broken-heart'... i'm not even sure what that means? Is it that i no longer love the song? Basically i'm completely behind on posts today b/c i had to delve into the painful world of windows - which for this Zune i actually tried to give a second chance. I blew through one dell xp laptop, and had to move on to a tiny sony vista machine before i was able to even get it to let me play a song. Anyhow, more on all of that below... but while i spent ages installing, etc, i fell in love with the design details and packaging... particularly the Zune Premium Headphones. See many pics of the packaging and headphone details ~ as well as the CES Zune section with all the artists pieces up after the jump!!!

iPod Box Speaker

ipodrecycle.jpgTurn that gorgeous iPod Nano or Shuffle plastic box that you probably kept (if you're into nice packaging) ~ but had little to use it for ~ into a speaker! With Japanese Bird-Electron's nearly DIY speaker system that recycles your ipod packaging into your portable speaker system.. For americans check out Audiocubes that has it in stock for $40. The Japanese site, All About, has (what i think is) a review of the speaker over in their men's style section. Lots of pictures, including one of it installed in a water bottle after the jump! So if you don't have an ipod box, there are lots of other options to get creative with! via Acquire.

Belkin Rockstar

belkinrockstar.jpgI think this is one of my favorite pictures from CES. Just something so fun about that glow. This was actually a backlit display on a concrete little table on their big grassy courtyard with little concrete stools all around it (you'll see more of the Belkin booth soon). But i just love how this picture blacks out the insanity surrounding it. Anyhow, the Belkin Rockstar is a super splitter of sorts ~ only it doesn't split, it actually has a chip inside to make sure the sound quality isn't dropping with each added connection. And most interesting thing is you can have TWO INPUTS... so yes, you can put two ipods together and live dj! While also having a few other people listening in, or hooking up some speakers... targeted at the 12-17 set, but world of opportunities here... imagine daisy chaining a few together? More images after the jump!

Guitar + Vox + OhMiBod

vox1.jpgGuitar + Vox + OhMiBod = Vibrator responding to the sounds of the guitar. Ever have those days where it you're holding two objects and it suddenly *clicks* that they're meant to be put together? Well a box of toys showed up from OhMiBod and the VOX AmPlug came on the same day, and it suddenly dawned on me that together they could be the perfect combo gift and only ~$100! [There's a quick video if below if you don't know what i mean.]

Ok ok, hear me out. The VOX AmPlug is perfect for electric guitarists who want to hear that beautiful full bodied sound through headphones. The OhMiBod and the more attractive and enticing new Gspot vibrate to the music connected through a headphone cable... Connect the two together ~ and its an interesting way to seriously touch someone through the music you PLAY.

We all know girls can't resist a musician (yes, yes, protest if you must, but we all know its pretty hard?) ~ this would take that love of musician and his music to a whole new level. Also, if he is the worst guitar player ever maybe this would be a nice gift for his poor girlfriend. And for all those groupies you can even plug in more than one... Come to think of it... this *could* work out nicely for those gamer guys too, hook it up to the output of your XBOX/PC/etc and every shot you take (or when you get shot) in a shooter game will have a whole new effect?

45 iPod Cases

45cases.jpg"Digital meets analog" is the tagline for 45 iPod Cases and it carries through even to their posters (which you can earn rebates on their cases by postering for them) ~ which are very cool illustrated posters! We've been seeing a lot of USB/Cassette Tape integrations this season, and records and record sleeves as purses, notebook covers, fruit bowls, ash trays, etc are inevitable at every crafty/recycled/found goods store these days... but i haven't seen the records cut and remolded for musical reasons before this! (and i do hope that the music on those records was digitized to go with the ipod before they folded and cut them up!) ~ also instead of adding the usb factor to the mix tape, its a cute idea to make it into a nano case... of course it'd be even more fun if i could somehow just stick that in my cassette player in my car? Fun designs, fun cases ~ see more images below!

Evolve Speakers

gevolve.jpgOoooooh. Ok, to be honest, when i first say the Griffin Evolve Speaker images i thought it had floating speakers... they are in fact ~ "wireless rechargable digital speakers", and it's also you're all in one ipod dock ~ with audio out channels, video out, s-video, etc... And you can even add more speakers - they have a cute little Multicast flash piece that shows you various members pairing their speakers then taking them to various rooms! They say "So have your friends bring their Evolve speakers next time they come over"... but doesn't that seem a bit silly? I mean we're already supposed to be carrying our wiimotes around, but our speakers too?

Oakley Split Thump Review

newoakleymain.jpgOakley's line of wearable tech has evolved once again... and its certainly improving! If you recall, i reviewed their O ROKR and Thump 2 almost exactly a year ago, and i was pleasantly surprised when a white boxed beta of the Split Thump showed up today. They've really cleaned up the design quite a bit, and it is now possible to be far more 007 like with these... removable t-rex arm ear buds (with an adorable little classic oakley pouch for them, even with a divider in the middle to keep them from destroying each other) and the external buttons have been incorporated into the logo (which has been enlarged and aesthetically looks far better on the glasses)... and they are sounding better as well. Bottom line? These glasses can actually look like normal sporty sunglasses when you aren't listening to music, giving you the flexibility the others lacked. Anyhow, take a look below for the unboxing, close ups, and a some photo comparisons between the Thump 2 and the and the Split Thump.

Oh, and if any of you are thinking ~ but wait some of the big tech blogs hated it... i just reread all those posts, and they have been following their predecessors who all hated the concept to start with - and its so sad that some of those sounded like whiny poor techy ipod lovers who probably aren't huge fans of outdoor sports. But anyhow, i might be in a ranty mood... these are definitely making my potential gift list... although it says "coming soon", i've heard that these will definitely be shipping in time for xmas.

Vers 2x Review

versunbox3.jpgReady to get up close and personal with the Vers 2x wood ipod speaker system i wrote about earlier? Well they sent a sample over, and i had the pleasure of playing with it, and as a product i'm smitten with their attention to details... things you don't see in their product shots? The gorgeous circular designs on the speaker cover ~ the way they run their wires under the unit ~ just how beautiful it really is to have a nice woody speaker amongst all the plastic and metal tech that surrounds us... It's currently on sale at places like Target and Amazon for $179. Anyhow take a look below for a slew of close ups.

Vers Speakers

vers1.jpgJust noticed these woody ipod speakers over at Acquire, and i can't stop staring. There is something about clean sleek wood and tech that just gets me every time. This is the Vers 2x - Hand-crafted cherry veneer cabinet - no two alike - 2 3" custom-engineered 15 watt speakers - Dual port design for deeper bass - Advanced 14 function remote control with 25' range (I wish there was a pic of this!) - 3.5mm audio cable for use with other MP3 players (i'm SO glad people are not locking you in to ONLY use it for your ipod these days). Its MSRP is $179... and they are even listing Target as one of the places to go find it in mid-Oct.

AudioCubes

audiocubes.jpg
New Gallery Tags! Have you noticed the new tags? On the left and right of NOTCOT.com? AudioCubes is sponsoring them this month, and showcasing some of their many fun and hard to find headphones, toys, accessories, and gadgets you didn't even realize you'd needed. In fact they even just got the Audrey Kawasaki Gelaskins in (couldn't resist tossing that one in the pic, after just posting the great new Audrey pieces below) - Dan (yes, co-founder and genius behind our tech) is quite the audiophile, and he swears by AudioCubes having ordered some headphones from them. Personally their robot section was my favorite on the site, as well as those tiny speakers that are so cute, tempted to get one for my ipod. You'll also probably noticed quite a few products we've featured, like that video bulb that you just plug into your RCA and it becomes your tv screensaver? Anyhow, i'm in a giddy shopping kind of mood today!
