Muji’s Product fitness 80 at the Design Museum- 03.08.12

mujimain.jpg The latest from our resident zoologist and London-based editor, Justine Aw, who super awesomely went to check out this Muji event on her birthday! (Happy Birthday, Justine!)

Product Fitness 80 asks the questions “What would happen if we used 20% less materials and energy to make products?”. The clever exhibition pushes Muji craftsmen to develop products that use fewer materials and processing. You can catch the exhibition at London’s Design Museum from tomorrow, the 9th of March until next Sunday, March 18th. In the meantime, see more more photos on the next page!

The items are cleverly crafted to reduce waste and produce products that work harder to do more with their materials, whether that be reducing the width of a roll of toilet paper or a single lid that fits all of your pots. While a few of the items are currently available in the Muji stores in the UK and Europe, others are only available at Muji in Japan and some are still in development stages.

Awesome! I love the multi-pot lid the most. Would save me so much from kitchen juggling!! I do wonder if people would use more toilet paper since it was narrower…people could use two less squares w/regular rolls?

Its interesting- if you’ve ever shopped in a dollar-store you’ll noticed odd just-so-slightly smaller packages of say cheetos or toilet paper. You hardly notice until you compare it, though you pay the same price as a “standard” size.
