STR/KE MVMNT: United By Motion- 08.03.13

strike0a.jpg Another Outdoor Retailer find ~ did a double take when we walked by the STR/KE MVMNT (Strike Movement) booth with brightly LED lit wooden boxes that opened up to showcase their sneakers and workout clothes. The most striking thing about their designs and display were the simplicity and thoughtfulness of their details, color palette, and photography. And it’s easy to see the influences - as the founder, Marc Morisset, says, “I always felt there was a need for an athletics brand that was relevant to where our demographic was coming from. We grew up in cities; skateboarding and going to punk rock and hip hop shows. It’s hard for us to relate to shoes that look like fishing lures.” Also, the detail of their “pleasure pocket” where you tuck your tied laces so they don’t come undone. They are also incredibly light… and the colors and designs are hard to ignore. Take a peek at the details and booth on the next page!

Interview on the STR/KE MVMNT blog with the founder about the concept! —————->

When STR/KE MVMNT’s founder Marc Morisset began to devote more time to training he soon discovered that trying to find functional gear that fit his personal was style next to impossible. Thus STR/KE MVMNT was born. In this interview Marc tells us about the early days of STR/KE MVMNT and what’s in store for the brand.

Where did the idea of STR/KE MVMNT come from? I initially started cross training to keep in shape for surfing and life in general. Having been in the action sports industry for a while I always felt there was a need for an athletics brand that was relevant to where our demographic was coming from. We grew up in cities; skateboarding and going to punk rock and hip hop shows. It’s hard for us to relate to shoes that look like fishing lures. I’d walk into a running shop and be like really? These are my choices? The apparel came as a natural progression to wanting to offer an entire athletic collection.

What compelled you to make the leap and launch your own brand? Well first off I should also point out that my wife was very involved in the brand’s foundation it was something that we were both involved in formulating. For myself, I’ve always had a direct connection to the product I’m using. I was a professional snowboarder for almost a decade and my career spanned years where there were huge changes in product and design. It was my job to be able to test that product and communicate what was working and what needed improving. As a result, when I started using minimalist shoes I could literally feel the ways I wanted to improve upon the designs. From a brand perspective I saw an opportunity to create a brand around the positive aspects of training and living an active lifestyle. I am enamoured by my training community, it’s a super diverse and inclusive culture and I thought that was a great inspiration for a brand, to be United by Motion. I also think that that community feeling carries over into everything that you do as a group of people. When you share experiences around a common activity it’s something that build bonds and that is what STRIKE MVMNT is ultimately about.
