CARE - Stella McCartney- 01.26.07

carestella.jpg
CARE by Stella McCartney is a new line of skincare ~ that is Ecocert-certified. CARE is “a unique luxury line of certified organic skincare, formulated with 100 percent organic active ingredients and zero percent petrochemicals or silicones.” While she isn’t necessarily the first eco/organic line out there (my old time favs is still Neal’s Yard Remedies) - it is really interesting to see this transition of luxury and eco merging… also, i am a big fan of her logo, and sleek design/packaging. There is even a discovery kit of travel sized testers to give the new line a try.

Check out the ethical charter:
• 100% ACTIVE INGREDIENTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC
• ALL PRODUCTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC AND ECOLOGICAL
• NO GENETICALLY MODIFIED INGREDIENTS
• NO ENDANGERED PLANT SPECIES
• NO PETROCHEMICALS, NO CHEMICAL PRESERVATIVES
• NO ANIMAL-DERIVED INGREDIENTS
• PRODUCTS ARE NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS
• RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
• SUITABLE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES
• NO SILICONES
• NO PARABENS

nice products, BUT very misleading organic percentage claims. On the front of all the packaging, containers and marketing material it reads: ‘100 percent organic active ingredients’ … only 2 products in the range actually contain 100% organic ingredients.
I purchased the Gentle Cleansing Milk which only contained 50.7% NOT 100 percent. I only found this out by chance as I was trying to read the ingredients on the back of the packaging - this statement was so tiny it could get missed. I have 3 friends who also purchased Care products thinking the 100 percent organic ingredient claim refers to what is in the product. Why can’t Stella list the TRUE percentages of each of her products on the front instead of putting 100% organic ingredients over everything and then burying the TRUE amount in miniature text amongst the ingredients? - this sure would help : ) just a thought … .
