NOTlabs: Dumbrella SDCC 2012 Signage- 07.12.12
LASERS!!! On looking for excuses to play with our new laser cutter ~ NOTlabs just created some signage for our friends at Dumbrella for San Diego Comic Con 2012! After a few experiments, we decided to go with laser cutting wood and acrylic ~ and having sanded clear acrylic with inlayed wood letters suspended from a clean black pipe structure. On the next page you can see how the process unfolded, and how fun watching the laser cutter in action is!
Here’s the final signage with the preview night crowd around it…
Where it all began… testing out some options!
Here’s what we all liked…
Trying it at full size, and adding in a back layer too!
Setting up for cutting…
Lasering!
When it’s done…
… pop off the outer area
… burn marks left in the work bed honeycomb!
… there’s something fun about the left overs!
All the letters laid out…
Testing the letters out all connected on pvc pipe on rope…
… the back…
We tried stringing up the rope/PVC/letter combo, but it didn’t stay nearly as straight as we wanted.
So back to the full pipe plan!
testing out the structure’s integrity…
… now with text!
Drove it all down to SD and we popped it up in the booth!
The final signage!
