Nike lets you Tweet to Johannesburg

nike-football_lightup_johannesburg_mediawall.jpg Largest LED screens popped up in Johannesburg (half as big as a football pitch!) displaying user contributed Facebook msgs, Mxit msgs (local South African social network), QQ msgs (Chinese social network) and Tweets in support of their favorite player(s) from the World Cup! Nike Football has definitely gone all out on this social experiment, blending the contributions of fans across the world to share their voice all the way in South Africa! The messages will appear across the LED screen which triggers an animation of the player mentioned. The user is then pinged back with a photo of their headline on the Life Center. The Life Center is 30 stories tall and 138 meters high, making it the fourth tallest in Johannesburg. Surrounded by 90m tall images of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robinho, this interactive LED screen allows sports fans around the world to write their own headlines and light up the Johannesburg skyline, even if only for a few moments. A really fun and larger than life execution to bring the world closer together… take a peek at video, pics and more on the next page!

My Phone Is Off For You

IMG_2590.jpg Unpacking suitcases just rediscovered this sticker in a pile of business cards! And it reminded me i was meaning to post this awesome project i ran into at ICFF from Parson’s New Schooler, Ingrid Zweifel of The Way We See The World. I have an ex who was never without his phone, and constantly looking things up ~ sure it’s useful like a real life wikipedia midconversation during dinner sometimes… but sometimes it’s just annoying! And likewise, i’m sure i’m guilty of peeking at my phone if it feel it buzz in my purse beside me too… it’s hard! So as a social intervention ~ perhaps we all need some of the tools from her My Phone Is Off For You project - “We may be sitting at the same table, but we are not together: a common condition of our over-wired world. It is time to question what truly nurtures the human spirit. MY PHONE IS OFF FOR YOU is a revolution; a series of tools designed to help engage in the present moment and spread this idea!” The tools? Awesome cell phone signal blocking handkerchief… sticker! rubber stamp! and i suppose the website is a tool too… to get you to take action! See shots from ICFF as well as closeups of the project on the next page!

Each vase has a unique shape inspired by the different kinds of roots and botanical of spices. Their metallic hooks make it possible to hang them on walls with a kitchen’s steel bar. Designed in collaboration with Laboratorio Pesaro. These are so beautiful, i was smitten with the concept and photography when i first spotted them on Design Milk! Take a peek at far more close up pics and various colors on the next page!

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell

ecellsls1.jpg How exciting is this prototype as far as greener sports cars go? But calm down a bit, unfortunately, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell gullwing isn’t scheduled until sometime in 2013… 526 horsepower, 649-pound-feet of torque, 0 to 60 in 4 seconds… just a smidge slower than its gas powered counterpart. As for this paint color… wow. It is apparently called “AMG lumilectric magno” paint. For more technical details check out the piece by Automobile Mag, for more lustworthy images ~ including a look at the intriguingly simple dashboard and carbon fiber center console, see the next page!

Handmade banknote by Xavi Garcia

mainmoney.jpgMoney as art ~ or faux money as art, rather. Spanish illustrator Xavi Garcia created his stunning ‘Handmade’ banknote illustration as a reaction to soulless digital design. “This note pretends to remind the viewer the amount of work, hours, patience and love that artisans put into the handicrafts they produce and stress how valuable they are, replacing currency for the amount of time spent working on it (3 months were given for this project). Entirely drawn by hand, using different printing techniques, it features security measures common in banknotes such as watermarks, tactile elements, see-through images and invisible UV ink.” On the front it says “Tempus Neminem Manet” meaning “Time waits for no one” and on the back it reads “Tempus Fugit” meaning “Time Flees.” As you stare at his work, it makes you wonder about the world it may have come from… and i love the concept of time as currency. After all ~ Time is Money, right? How nice would it be to be paid with one of these 3 month notes? How would you spend it? See the details up close on the next page…

This petite design object was created by Martina Carpelan of Studio Frost Produkt after being invited by the Norwegian design magazine Design Interior, to create a lamp within the time frame of a week.

Sunday may be used a bedside table or in the hallway, in the chalet or in the toilet - or actually anywhere you may need a light and a shelf combined. Vary the mood by simply turning the socket and re-lock it! The perfect mood maker for a Sunday morning in bed. See more images on the next page…

OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds

omega-seamaster1.jpg It’s been a while since a watch has grabbed me… but once i laid eyes on high res pics of this limited edition OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds Watch at Luxist, i haven’t been able to stop staring. There’s something about the design of the vintage Omega logo laser cut into the steel hands (in lieu of some of their more traditional arrows)… and that bright blue is stunning against the black and white… the numbers are in such a beautiful font… and the recessed small seconds subdial (made of applied sterling silver) is nothing short of entrancing. It has been produced in an edition limited to 88 pieces each in 18 Ct white gold with a black alligator strap and in 18 Ct rose gold with a brown alligator strap, but clearly the White Gold is my favorite. See close up images of the stunning details on the next page.
