The rumors (and guesses) have been flying around about Mimoco launching their 3rd series of Star Wars Mimobots, and we're excited to have the exclusive to show you the first of this new series! So, here is Darth Sidious! How crazy are his hands? With all the lightning shooting out? Reminders of the rest of the series so far on the next page...
Win ALL THREE GINCHY MIMOBOTS! in their 1gig forms. Aren't they adorable? My Ramona hangs out under my 23" studio display, and looks like she rules the place. So to win them - same deal as the last three weeks - anyone who filled out our survey is already in the running to win - anyone who hasn't should really go fill it out! (and tell your friends too!)
So this week of holiday giveaway goodness is sponsored by Mimoco~ i fell for them ages ago, but fell hardest when i met up with Evan and Nicole at Digital life (remember the review?). These are not "just flash drives" nor are they "just collectible toys" - they really are a brilliant hybrid of the two - collectible, and filled with digital goodness in the form of things like Brian McCarty photoshoots of the Ginchy's - as well as functional USB flash drives for all your music, work, digital needs. And the latest series to covet are the upcoming Star Wars Series... more images below.
While exploring the Toy Fair, we ran into our old friends from Mimoco! They’ve come a long way since we first started posting about them in 2005! From a variety of artist Mimobots series, licensed characters, hoodies, and more… they have now veered into Mimomicros! These are new characters that have a flip out USB plug and you can put in any sized microSD card to use them as usb keys… or just use them to transfer info from phones/cameras/etc that use microSDs. Take a peek at the fun Mimoco toy fair booth (How fun are the turntable/record like displays you can really spin? Sadly no music plays though!) as well as close ups of the new Mimomicros on the next page!
HAPPY EARTH DAY! And good morning! Apparently i'm judging this latest Mimoco Contest ~ along with Cool Hunting and Inhabitat! Firstly what is GURPing (GURP = GreenBot USB flash drive Recycling Program)? Well apparently it is the Mimoco program to recycle all those unwanted flashdrives you've been accumulating (every few months they just get BIGGER, BETTER, and Cheaper!) In the last year they've already received hundreds!
So what's the deal? VIDEO CONTEST!!! From Earth Day until Mother's Day (May 10th), you can enter by making a video that promotes recycling via GURP.
"For every video entry received, Mimoco will contribute to save 1,000 square feet of rain forest through the Arbor Day Foundation's Rain Forest Rescue program. Mimoco, and their media partner judges at Cool Hunting, NOTCOT, and Inhabitat, will choose up to 100 entrants to receive limited edition, organic cotton MIMOBOT GURP t-shirts. The grand prize winner will receive two 8GB MIMOBOT flash drives of their choice. An Audience Choice winner, chosen by the Mimoco community, will win an 8GB drive of their choice, and four runner ups will each receive 4GB MIMOBOT drives." Read more about GURP and enter here.
you can watch the GURP instructional video on the next page!
A box full of RayD8s just showed up ~ they are the stocking stuffer of choice for my NOTCOT team this year... and i can't stop playing with it... and watching the videos (great interviews with suckloard and poykpac right now!) in Mimozine 1 that comes loaded on him! Also really cool screensavers, icons packs, music, wallpapers... these little guys really are TOYS with some digital depth to them... and you can use them as the 4gig USB keys they are too. And more reasons why i'm obsessing on RayD8... he GLOWS in the dark and has a split personality... and he actually has FEET on the bottom! You can see all my favorite parts in his photoshoot below... the kids over at Mimobots even sent them over ready for this cold weather with their furry jump suits (different colors so we can keep track of who's who).
As you know, i've played with Mimobots before (remember my ramona?) ~ and they were one of our gift guide sponsors (had SO much fun making that guide) ~ but somehow i hadn't gotten the chance to fully explore the Mimozine till now... i wish all usb devices came with fun content/magazines to enjoy! It's been an honor to have them as such strong supporters of NOTCOT!
I never thought sanrio would end up on NOTCOT ~ but when i saw the latest designs in the Sanrio x Mimobot collaborations for Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary, i LOL’d and couldn’t resist. Badtz-Maru make me think of… yea… a long time ago, and he was always my favorite, who can resist a disgruntled black bird?!?! And Hangyodon is just crazy… So check out these final characters in the 6 Sanrio x Mimobot collection on the next page!

Firstly ~ THANK YOU FOR ALL THE AMAZING COMMENTS ~ you guys really blow my mind, and i love how creative most of you get with them! I really wish there was a way i could give you all something! But for now, i think we'll have to stick to the ~30 giveaways! Thanks for being such amazing readers!
Secondly ~ i love Mimobots, and i think you do too! And lucky for us both, they love us all too! So third giveaway, here is number 118 of a limited 200 mimobot run of the special RayD8gig and he's 8GIGS BIG! As you can see, he's hanging out in this picture waiting for you with my old school RayD8 (who actually stores ALL things gift guide this year as i bounce between laptop and desktop) They have also thrown in a black Protohoodie to keep the little guy warm (and protected from your keys, etc!). So check out more pics on the next page, as well as the special NOTCOT Coupon, and more info on how they are giving 50 mimobots (one a day!) away on twitter, and a peek at the limited edition Yahoo bots!
Luke has a helmet! With a normal head under... and Leia's buns! Ok that was my first impression between fits of giggles as i opened the Mimoco. How cute are this latest line of star wars inspired mimobots? Preordering is available now, but they won't be shipping until January.
Just announced, the final character in the upcoming first set of Star Wars Mimobots, and it does seem amusing to see R2D2 with arms and legs, and just seems oh so character like, and less of that iconic shape i associate him with. Adorable none the less, get your pre-orders in early, these could be the fun gifts for the holidays, that come january 8th~ so as the holidays wear off, and people have to get back into work mode... there will be something fun to look forward to. Oh, and i can only imagine what goodies these come preloaded with! Imagine if these made star wars noises when you plugged them in. (long day ~ and then been moving furniture for a few hours, for some reason the idea of the chewy one making that signature groan as you behead him and plug in the USB, makes me smile)
The new VDC Mimobot series is too cute. So cute and incredibly detailed, it's creating quite a dilemma for me... while i have a few in my purse, on my desk, etc ~ there's usually been a standout one that love and need to have, this time there are a few! Argh! Hehe...
Ok anyhow, i'm a little delirious from massive gift guide planning, inhaling the smokey smell from fires all over socal (our wishes go out to everyone who is dealing with the fires first hand - be safe!), and shopping like crazy online right now... I've been meaning to post these, and only after getting far too distracted by them a few times, here we go! As the press release says, "Boston-based design studio Mimoco releases Vimobot Design Contest MIMOBOT Series, the company's first community-designed collection of MIMOBOT designer USB flash drives, preloaded with all-new mimoZine Digital Magazine Issue 4." And the new goodies are so tempting, i love the new wallpapers and icons! You have to check out the close up images of the new designs on the next page ~ details like the mushrooms, hidden spiders and skulls in the tiki, squid in the tattoos, cherry blossoms down the backs, so much to see in these little guys! I'm currently tortured picking between the Mimoshroom by Bananafromcanada, Golden Panda by Shandurrah, and Yakuza by Eetteekers... check out the MANY pics on the next page!
I need more Mimobots. I'm pretty sure of that now. Because while i love my USB keys and toys as much as the next guy... (ok fine maybe a little more)... exploring the data inside Ramona has hooked the artsy McCarty fan in me. What the other sites never conveyed to me well enough was that each Mimobot is a mini multifaceted piece of art ... gorgeous toy on the outside, usb key on the inside, and dig deeper and, in the Ginchy Series, you have a flash site to explore with a photo album of so many breathtaking photographs by McCarty of the trio around old school LA landmarks... with a great soundtrack by Phofo (their theme song and one song for each of the characters) to listen to on that vector ipod while you flip through... as well as 4 previews to make you crave the other Mimoco Mimobots as well. So see below for more images of what you'll get when you adopt your Mimobot.
On fun packages to kick off the week ~ i love that HBO and Cornerstone Promotion have teamed up with Mimoco to promote their new new shows. As we saw on .org, The Official Vanache Blog received a Life and Times of Tim Mimobot earlier ~ and i just received "Vicky Pollard" from the freshly launched Little Britain USA (the american version of the extremely successful BBC comedy) that just started last night. This little USB is filled with videos introducing a few of the characters!
On noteworthy things from a creative/marketing perspective, i love that Mimobots have managed to really up the standards in giveaway USB drives filled with content, and that companies like HBO and Cornerstone are thinking outside of the box, designing collectible limited edition characters. In the case of the Little Britain USA characters, only 4000 of each were made. See more images on the next page!
There's a scavenger hunt afoot on the web and you've just found a piece of the puzzle. Ok, confused? Well read about the details at Mimoco. With SD Comic Con coming up next week, Mimoco will be launching its nine new Core Series 2 Mimobot Art Toy USB Flash Drives, and i'm proud to announce the first one below - so, meet Psy! This adorable cyclops of a flash drive has an adorable reptilian (or dino?) like look that will definitely keep your data safe. So there are 4 Psy Mimobots for you to win... one through the scavenger hunt (more details below), and three from NOTCOT! If you'd like to win one of our three, leave a comment with your idea for a great new USB device/toy/creature, and i'll pick three winners on July 25th (which is the end of the scavenger hunt, and the release of all 9 new Mimobots!)
The majority of USB keys are oh so boring... So why bother with those, when you can show some character ~ AND hold your data? I've been seeing Mimobots around the internet for a while now and loved them, but fell for them far more when i checked the whole line out in person while at Digital Life! (where you may have heard about their Darth Vader Mimobot announcement!) Evan and Nicole were even nice enough to give me Ramona #100 out of 500 to play with, and she was a life saver during the show when i needed to mess with file transfers.
Ramona is one of three in the Ginchy Series, designed by Lili Chin (co-creator and producer of the hit Mexican Wrestling cartoon series “¡Mucha Lucha!”). But what really sucked me in was the accompanying photography for this series by Brian McCarty (see the old NOTCOT post about McCarty) - "renowned toy photographer and director/producer provides an extra-special cargo load for the series with his quirky photo albums of the Ginchy friends' Los Angeles adventures, set to a soundtrack by Phofo." See some of the great images of the rest of the Ginchy line in their rockabilly LA portraits below, as well as the invite to the Launch Party for the line over at Munky King this weekend!
First Gift Guide of the season, and while i promised friends and family i wouldn't do 31 days in a row like last year (it got crazy!), you can see Alyssa and i made up for it with quite the NOTCOT Holiday Coupon Book and a really exciting lineup of giveaways launching nearly everyday through xmas! (Funny thing is, as we get more excited and start posting up all these goodies as a huge THANK YOU to you, our readers, more stores we love keep contacting us wanting to share the love as well! So the list might grow... as do the coupons!)
So first guide, the REALLY fun stuff. Since gifts should be about the unexpected... those fun surprises that you never saw coming, or would never buy yourself yet secretly lusted for... So lets kick this off with Desk Toys and Stocking Stuffers! Below is a massive collage of some of my favorites, like last year, just click the products to be whisked off to find out more. I've also attached the relevant coupons below to help you out with any temptations you may come across! Enjoy!
So, thanks to a few awesome toy/webcomic friends, i found myself hiding out in San Diego the last few days at Comic Con ~ while there… the first annual International Designer Toy Awards (DTA) were hosted at SDCC 2011 this year! And close friend and maker of creatures and androids, Andrew Bell, won FAN FAVORITE!!! (Congrats, Andy!)
What did winners receive? These awesome golden TOY KING trophies designed by Pete Fowler ~ so after a fun night out, we couldn’t resist a litte hotel room photoshoot to share just how awesome Fowler’s trophy is! (From all angles, and posed with one of the new limited edition Androids of course!) Check out all the pics on the next page!
You found it! This is a secret post with all of the NOTCOT 2008 Gift Guides in one giant page! Sorry not so organized, but just scroll away to check them all out!
