Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. Bottles

elsa0.jpg I have always loved this idea of a mini wearable vase necklace ~ remember the Rockettoro Blossom Pendants from way back in 2006, with the glass vial, perfect for one flower? Well flipping through Lucky, i just saw this Tiffany & Co ad for the new Elsa Peretti Bottle Pendants that play on the same concept! “Once i was in Portofino and i met all those beautiful women that were wearing Pucci’s dresses and had a gardenia in their hand. That was the flash that made me think to realize something to keep the flower fresh and alive, therefore the little bottle came to the light…” says Elsa Peretti. So pretty and delicate, it really is a shame they don’t have more images of the pendants with flowers on their site! And i could never see wearing an orchid with praying mantis as i go about my day… but there are so many pretty options! And for those averse to cutting flowers, imaging putting some of that magical hydrogel stuff inside and nursing a seedling around your neck until ready for planting, etc? Take a peek at the other designs and more images on the next page!

p.s. I know, Tiffany & Co and Kiel Mead situation is terrible, but these bottle pendants are just interesting objects!

Red: Metal Rouge meets Mars Red

louboutin0.jpg The color of the day has inadvertently become: RED! This morning Mercedes dropped off a Mars Red 2011 Mercedes-Benz C63 for me to play with ~ and i happened to need to take a little drive down to South Coast Plaza to go see some Louboutins… (which, as you can see, i clearly gave in to). And as i excitedly unboxed them in the car, i realized the signature Louboutin red sole matches Mercedes Mars Red far too well. And… i could not resist, but had to shoot the unboxing IN and ON the car! (I’m liking this unboxing on cars thing… remember the Bentley/Toy shoot?) So if you’re ready for some red… take a peek at the unboxing of the Louboutin Elisa 100 Metal Patent in Rouge and the Mars Red C63 on the next page!

Le Pégase d'Hermès Scarf

hermes0.jpg On fun surprises while in London ~ Le Pégase d’Hermès Silk Twill Scarf designed by Christian Renonciat! With an architectural/blueprint look and inspirations from Da Vinci (backwards handwriting and all) ~ Hermès gives us a design to build a pegasus and some wings for yourself. Pretty enough to treat like art, i’m currently researching framing options, but until then wanted to share some of the pretty details with you! Unbox/closeups on the next page!

Bentley Glasses Case

bgt-glasses0.jpg Perhaps the most intriguing (and portable) accessory in the Bentley was the glasses case. I’m hesitant to even call it a sunglass case, since the size definitely didn’t fit most of my sunglasses (and no they aren’t THAT huge!) ~ perhaps its most suited for smaller sun glasses and reading/driving glasses? But it has the same wood that covers the whole dash, complete with Bentley logo of course… and it snaps in perfectly to the cup holder in the center dash. When you raise the arm rests you can even open it in place, or take it with you to go. The interior of the case has matching leather to the seats (in this case Imperial Blue). Anyhow, take a peek at the close ups on the next page ~ as far as dashboards gone mobile, i am strangely drawn to having some of that beautiful woody root ball veneer outside of the car!

Stone Island Heat Reactive Jacket

jacket000.jpg Thermochromatic goods seem to come and go and never quite disappear… remember when American Apparel brought it back and AZFN did their version too? Well latest to run into is Stone Island’s Heat Reactive Jacket “A hooded bomber jacket in cotton nylon canvas with thermosensitive liquid crystals, the garment changes colour according to the temperature. The fabric of the heat reactive jacket is treated with a thermo-sensitive coating that changes colour at high temperatures. Beginning at 27 degrees the molecules within the micro- capsules of the external strata undergo a rotation modifying the light course. The colour of the garment gradually begins to morph from the dark colour of the surface coating to a much lighter and brighter surface colour. When the garment returns to a normal temperature it recovers to its original dark coating colour.” It is available in black that turns Green or Blue. Check out the dramatic video and more pics of it in action on the next page…

Stone Island's Moon in Milan

stone0.jpg Through a courtyard in Milan… following some mysterious arrows… a few turns, and into a mysterious doorway… we weren’t sure quite what we were in for… then somehow ended up inside Stone Island’s gorgeous room showcasing their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection “The Moon_ The Ultimate Rock of Stone” (Yes, insert giggling fit here) ~ but the room and display were gorgeous, life size vertical displays of models wearing the new collection flipping through… floating perfectly lit panels showing the actual goods… and a gorgeous HUGE moon, so close, yet so far, reflected into the dark space… See more pics of the lovely space on the next page. I’d love a magical moon room ~ something so otherworldly, maybe feeling like you’re floating in space?!?!?!

Acronym: Jacket Sling + Details

acronym1.jpg I’ve been lusting after an Acronym jacket for so long now… ok, after Pieter from Today and Tomorrow’s specific Acronym jacket, in sleek simple black, awesome fabric/cut and detailing… and i was totally drawn in a few years ago by the Jacket Sling feature when he had it just casually slung across his back (nicer with the black interior than the picture of another model above)… well, running in to him again in Berlin, and poking at some of the current collection at Firmament, reminded me to share it here! So take a peek at the new ACR-SS-11 Set 1, with a jacket with removable sleeves that packs down into a perfect little bag… notice how even the ear buds have a magnetic little patch near the neck? So many incredible little details! Also awesome is the ACR-SS-11 3A-9TS which is a laptop “tote bag” that will stay upright, and has support straps to help manage the weight! Take a peek at them up close on the next page!

Fashion Monster from Eli Neugeboren

fashionmonster1.jpg Illustrator, Eli Neugeboren facebooked me about his latest project, and it is just that perfect combination of adorably creepy and beautiful! He says on his blog, “Fashion Monster was a project conceived with photographer Dustin Cohen to combine his photographs and my “monster” illustrations. We set out to create a noir feel, knowing that the monsters would upend that with their absurd placement and bright colors. Shot on location around lower Manhattan at the beginning of Fall, the light was great and the team Dustin put together created wonderful images for me to work with.” The fashion is Edelweiss by Sarah, model is Mirielle from APM Models, hair & makeup by Angelique Velez, styling by Matthew Simonelli, ahoto assistant/stunt driver is Andrew Hanenberg, photo assistant is Winfield Foster, and producers, Kids With Candy, Casey Levine & Monique Perreault.

There’s something so incredibly fun about the whole series, and will make you peer around buildings and over your shoulder as you saunter through New York… i’d love to see an animated version of this look book! See more on the next page!

Fashion Embedded Technology

techcloth0.jpg This post is brought to you by Old Navy. Thanks, Old Navy, for inspiring me to rant about tech fashion!Advertisement

When faced with writing a post on technology in fashion instigated by Old Navy and their new Techno Hoodies, we went through everything we could find. It’s actually been a fascinating research project of sorts exploring what is happening in the fashionable technology world, and sadly i expected more! We need more wearable tech! Or washable, wearable tech? The easy thing was letting my mind wander in and out of scifi movies, combining things i’d find, imagining what could be next… so on the next page you’ll see a few examples of my favorite technology in fashion innovations!

Kelly Reemtsen's Ladies

dresses1.jpg Mmmmm, you know i adore a good unexpected juxtaposition… like these fun paintings by Kelly Reemsten! Headless/footless women in lovely party frocks holding simple tools… like bolt cutters, axes, gardening shears, chainsaws, crowbars… and wearing dish gloves and oven mits… simple every day things! They also have great names like ‘The load I Carry’, ‘Heavy Handed’, ‘Axe’, ‘B & E’, ‘Prowler’, ‘Leverage’, ‘Character Assassination’, etc. Awesome, right? And these are all large oil paintings ranging from 20’x20’ to 44’x44’. How fun would it be to have the perfect one hanging conspicuously in that perfect entry way… Is it any surprise that she started in Fashion Design and Painting? See more on Kelly Reemsten, and see some of my absolute favorites on the next page!

Ona: The Roma DLSR Insert

ona1.jpg I’m notorious for carrying my beloved 5D mkII relatively unprotected in just about any purse that will fit it… So long as the stitching seems like it can take the weight. And when placed carefully in my messenger bag with laptop and a ton of other gear… well, maybe there are some flip flops buffering the bottom in that hand carry. And i’ve said for years now that i should get some foam and sew up a perfect little insert/sleeve for it! That being said, i’m always on the look out for a sleek solution that doesn’t add more bulk than necessary. And i just stumbled across Ona’s the Roma tonight, and i must admit i’m quite intrigued. Need to go do some measuring to see how it will do with my set up… but it’s looking pretty good!

Here’s what they say: “Let the Roma camera insert transform your favorite non-camera bag into a protective space for your gear. While the Roma won’t replace your carry-it-all camera bag, its the perfect solution for light trips and shoots where only your camera and a lens are needed. But that’s not all. The Roma also has five exterior pockets that’ll help keep your stuff organized. A camera insert that’s also a bag organizer; quite the twofer if we do say so ourselves. Handcrafted with premium Waxwear. Leather side handles for easy removal from your bag.” Dimensions: 10.5”L X 7”H X 4”D. See more pics on the next page!

Kraken Rum: The Gift Guide!

kraken0.jpg Amazing. I’m literally in complete awe as i write this post, under the glow of the Kraken Lamp, while sipping some Kraken Rum on ice. There’s just something too awesome about great things feeding and inspiring each other ~ in this case Kraken Rum coupled with incredible design studio, Dead As We Know It, and launching quite possibly the coolest product line yet! The product line is lustworthy on its own… but still noteworthy, when’s the last time a Rum inspired you to redecorate? Rum inspired housewares, art work, and wearables? Even handkerchiefs for the dandiest fellow on your gift list… Take a peek at some of my favorites from the new Kraken Rum Store on the next page… and i can’t wait to see what else the Kraken will inspire in all of us!

Smart eScooter Fashion

smartfashion0.jpg Smart Fashion! Inevitable pun I suppose, but it’s both intelligent, and Smart - like the car. On unexpected design surprises, the last thing i expected when literally popping into Japan for an afternoon to visit Mercedes-Benz’s Tokyo studio, was to be drawn to the FASHION. The functional details worked into these two outfits are too fun not to focus on ~ and they are in fact, accessories to further flesh out the lifestyle they imagine along with the Smart escooter and concepts. Noteworthy details? The woman’s leather jacket has a button on back protector while riding… and when unbuttoned it also doubles as a clutch! Protective AND hands free? The designs on the dress are all made of reflective ribbon ~ perfect to keep you safer en route, yet also playful in a club. The skirt can be shorted with a quick tug to create cute rippled accents and bring it to a perfectly short length ~ but if that length may show a little too much when you hop on the scooter ~ easily lengthen it while riding! The men’s jacket has nice cuff details to protect your knuckles, yet is still sleek and doesn’t scream riding gear.

Random fun fact for design kids ~ the Mercedes Benz design team embraces “Cross Over Designers” (i.e. non-traditional automotive designers) and allows their designers to really focus on their strengths… There are 8-10 designers that focus on light design! They brought on an ex-Adidas shoe designer to focus on fun details because they loved his sketching style. One of their material & trim folks is a fashion designer… so maybe its no wonder that these “cross over designers” can add fresh perspectives and more well rounded concepts like these! There’s a certain thoughtfulness and completeness to the concept being taken so far as to include lifestyle accessories that strike a functionally chic balance in the Smart’s scooter fashion… take a peek at the details on the next page!
