Gift Guide! This one is all about lighting ~ i've recently found that one of my new favorite fall backs for gifts is lighting! especially when unboxed before hand, and setup ready to plug in or light up, there is something so magical about the unboxing experience and watching someone literally transform the room by opening it, turning it on, plugging it in! Here is a roundup of picks we're loving and/or wanting... and also a special section on solar lights! I'm recently been obsessively researching them ~ in love with the solar lanterns ~ and exploring options and design ideas on other solar lighting related concepts... Anyhow, check out the massive gift guide on the next page, click to browse!
TO WIN: Leave a comment ~ Tell us something rechargeable related! ENTER BY 12/3. WINNER: Keira in Alberta, Canada!
Oooh i'm giddy excited about this one too! I guess you've probably noticed by now that everything we're giving away i'm really excited about... this latest one is part review/unboxing (i've been dying to see one of these in person!) and part giveaway! OXO was kind enough to send over one the BIG Candela Luau Lanterns! I reviewed the Candela Flare lights earlier, and have been totally obsessed with how versatile and eco-friendly (and safer than candles!) they are with their rechargable batteries ~ perfect for outdoor usage of all sorts, and create the most incredible ambiance, especially in woody spaces! Well i've been itching to get one of the large lantern like Candela Luau lanterns for some time now, but had a hard time committing to the $200 pricetag without knowing quite how big or bright it was... but just seeing the product shots made me want to take one and wander along a stream at dusk...
Bottom line ~ its gorgeous! Brighter than i expected, but you can even dim it (and extend battery life from 6 to 10 hours) if you rotate the base... a bit large (Dimensions: 9'' x 9'' x 15'') to put on a smaller dining table, but perfect for taking on a picnic, having out on the patio, hanging from under a large outdoor umbrella. So take a look at the pics on the next page to see the unboxing (don't worry i carefully un/re-boxed it!) ~ and to win it, leave a comment tell us something rechargeable related!
TO WIN: Leave a comment here ~ Tell us about your mac! ENTER BY 12/02. WINNER: Caroline in NY!
Ok, so everything got a little jumbled up, and i got a bit behind on what i had planned for today with all the Thanksgiving festivities! So switching things up a little, here's the second (of 5!) giveaway from our 2008 Gift Guide Sponsor, Seagate! I know, the first Seagate Giveaway isn't even over until tonight, but this one is even more exciting! Especially if you're a mac user! Today's giveaway is the Seagate FreeAgent Go 320 GB External Hard drive for Mac! I know, you're probably wondering what the difference from the other one is, so here you go: (1) Silver (not blue) (2) has Firewire 800/USB 2.0 and comes with the FW 800 cable, FW 800 to 400 convertor cable, USB cable, and USB power cable (the other was only USB 2.0, and came with a USB cable) (3) has travel case (4) has desktop docking station... and it's formatted for Mac and Time Machine-ready!
Basically you get even MORE goodies with this one, and it can have transfer speeds that are nearly twice as fast! So, for this giveaway, tell us something about your mac in the comments for a chance to win! (And non-mac users, don't worry there are more drives to come...) See more pictures of this bundle on the next page!

Happy Black Friday! Before you get to all your crazed online black friday shopping at all hours... Giveaway #12 is from our friends at Elsewares (they are also the geniuses behind Supermarket which is like a beautifully curated Etsy - awesome stuff from indie designers!)... So for this giveaway, you have a chance to win the Nooka Glow Zub Zen H! Have you heard the back story on this glowing timepiece? Earlier this year Nooka made 15 of these to gift to Kanye West at the end of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour ~ as blogged by Nooka founder (and Parson's adjunct instructor), Matthew Waldman. This self proclaimed "native new yorker, bilingual japanese/english, design genius in brand development, graphic and product design" has really grown Nooka into a fascinating brand to watch, and the Kanye move... well that was just brilliant... and a Glow In The Dark Watch! Who doesn't want that?
So check out more pics of this glowy gummy-esque time piece on the next page, as well as a coupon to the super fun Elsewares!
Gift Guide! Gifts that lean green... so i'm not at all stating all of these are the most eco-conscious things out there, but they are certainly leaning in that direction and are fun, useful, and gorgeous! See the list on the next page! Click the images to browse!
I've become a Thanksgiving shopaholic today... i can't seem to stop shopping now that the emails and ims have subsided as everyone else is off feasting (we turducken/champagne'd in a very low key lunch feast this year)... i'm even addictively shopping off the holiday coupons!
Anyhow, amongst all the shopping, ended up at Black + Blum ~ early friends of NOTCOT ~ and totally smitten by some of their latest designs... Desk Tidy? A fun porcelain mix of merged cups that i'm totally wanting (also perfect for gifting!) ~ And how i wish i had the ski pole inspired Spudskis! Really you need at least two, right? and a big bowl, or hill of potatoes to mash and ski through? And most gorgeous of all ~ back in April they made a gorgeous glass polar bear sculpture for WWF Faces in The Wild. Their design sold for $35,000, with Humanscale matching ~ so proceeds of $70,000 went to the World Wildlife Fund! It's made of profiles of glass for the polar bear on a frosted glass surface upon a blue mirror for the glassy sea... Anyhow, check them all out in more detail on the next page, and you can purchase at Black + Blum

(So smart, its such a nice idea!) So what is this big Thanksgiving giveaway? Basically the ultimate green goody basket!!! Well, they call it the Eco-Delightful GET GREEN Gift Set - and its got about 50 things in there! Can you believe we're up to Giveaway #10 already? It's been incredibly fun giving away all of this stuff to you guys, and so fun to read all your comments! First up, here's a Royal Blue 320Gig Seagate FreeAgent GO. It's so crazy how 320 Gigs can literally fit in your pocket these days ~ AND have awesome pin hole light up patterns on the case as well! For more details check out my review and closeups... and see more pics and details on the next page as well! (You have to check out the amazing rainbow of hues, i'm kind of craving the green... in a 500Gig?)
Gift Guide! So this started as almost being another Thanksgiving Survival Guide (like last year's) but devolved more into some designer randomness... from crazy showerheads to blooming tea to living necklaces and wine quivers ~ browse the guide on the next page and click images to find out more!
News of this magical new battery doubling sleek iPhone case has been circulating, but only tonight (or i guess now its 4am... so morning?) did i really sit down and go through the press release and high res images ~ Not surprising, it's Incase, so it's gorgeous... and it's available in 2 days! (Nov 28!) Actually what brought the Power Slider up was talking to dan about his super early flight to Pennsylvania this morning, and how there is the possibility there will be no internet (*gasp*) and hopefully some cell reception where he's going... and how badly he wished he has the Incase Power Slider to magically double the battery life on the go!
So upon further inspection, the Power Slider deserved a full post ~ have you looked closely at it? like REALLY closely? To notice the mac inspired details like "A five-light LED battery status indicator gauges battery life and also denotes sync mode and charging." Or the subtle single leaf logo on the front bottom left? How about the deepness of the camera hole on the back? And it has my favorite matte black soft-touch coating! Also love that its converted the charging to a more standard mini-USB, much more friendly when roaming in random non-iPhone friend cars without your own charger! I am curious how the 0.86" thickness feels in my hand relative to a normal iphone... So anyhow, check out the super closeups on the next page, i think this is definitely making the list of good gifting options for the holidays...
Firstly, i'm a total Bumble and Bumble junkie ~ it started in high school some time, and even when i was living in Milan, i used to have to go hunt the stuff down at 10 Corso Como (not that i needed another excuse to go there!)... i'm a commitmentphobe when it comes to products usually, but i've used the gentle shampoo so long i have the salon sized pump in my shower... and its not just the products, their packaging is probably what first sucked me in as a teenager, and as its evolved, and i've grown up, their designs have never ceased to amaze and amuse me...
Now, its 3am, i've been a little gift guide, giveaway, and FM overly occupied lately... but i'm so giddy about this Bandball ~ the crazier things got the last few months, the less i've cut my hair, and i have hair elastics everywhere! Sometimes i swear they grow legs and launch themselves into every purse, cup holder, laptop sleeve around... Now i've made my share of rubber band balls of all shapes and sizes, but one with hairthings... that's just far too tempting now, and a nice sized ball core? With ridges for them to naturally fit into to get it starter? And not stretch them out too much? GENIUS! But one question... can it bounce?
Oh, and along with Piet Houtenbos ~ they have also created some very cool gift sets and Pinwheels and Bandwheels... adorable, and awesome ~ but really... Bandball! Now, how do i get my hands on one? Apparently it's only 20$ for the ball of 100 hair things...
UPDATE! Now purchasable on the Bumble and Bumble online store! (i just bought two!)

So when you comment to win, answer this: "You're trapped in a room, and all you have are these objects... what would you do?"
This is LIKE a gift guide, but really i also kind of tasked wonderful intern, Alyssa, to make me her wishlist as an awesome gift guide! Soooooo on the next page you can browse what she's wanting this year! Going through it, i'm pretty sure you might have a few people who'd want what she's got on there too!
On italian design icons, the Sacco is legendary, it's impacted every college kid since 1968... it's the original beanbag as designed in 1968 by Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro for Zanotta... it is the first mass-produced bean bag chair, filled with polystyrene pellets... Can you believe it? 40 years? To celebrate, Zanotta invited us to breakfast at DZINE in San Francisco, and unfortunately i wasn't able to make it up there, but Marcia Simmons was nice enough to step in and help out! Highlights were meeting Martino Zanotta, the current head of the company, having access to the ORIGINAL DESIGN SKETCHES of this legendary piece, and the picture she sent me of her cat, Olive, who has happily claimed her mini Sacco... See more images and her comments on the next page!
TO WIN: Leave a comment here ~ tell us an office anecdote? ENTER BY 11/27. WINNER: Weiyi in Singapore!
Genius Jones "Design For A New Generation" ~ don't be fooled, sure it may sound like a kids store at first - a fabulously playful and design kid store online... but there are so many goodies in there that i'm wanting even! So for this giveaway, Genius Jones is giving one commenter a Lomography Fisheye 2 White Edition and NY City Limits Electronic Stapler!
All we ask in return? Leave us a comment about an office anecdote? Afterall, how much fun is this fully automatic stapler with all the colorful gears and gizmos, doesn't it just brighten up and desk and basic office task? And the lomo Fisheye ~ everything looks cooler with a fisheye... any cubicle can look like its own massive WORLD seen through that lens! See more pictures of the goods and a coupon from Genius Jones on the next page!
TO WIN: Leave a comment here ~ tell me some animal/adventure story? ENTER BY 11/26. WINNER: Jeremy in Alexandria, VA!
Not to be biased or anything, but i am so giddy about this giveaway even more than any of the others so far! This was a late addition, cooked up over late night emails with Otter X (aka Patrick Ma, founder of Rocket World and T.A.D. Gear) ~ where upon ordering myself an early bday present in the form of the awesomest fleecy hoodie EVER, he offered to give one away to you guys too! And mine came on friday, and the temp dropped ridiculously at night, and its the coziest thing ever... so i'm even wearing it NOW!
So here's the Rocket World Shag Master Creature Hoodie (what a name, right?) - its the third in a line of exclusive fleeces from Rocketworld (pics of the first two on the next page!)... the biggest difference for me is that this one is versatile with its removable bear ears (which can also be switched for horns or anything you can make and velcro on!) - so less commitment to being an instant-furry with the full face and claws! These hoodies are the perfect combination for those of us who adore the Rocket World IWG well armed animal toys and the high quality tactical gear of TAD Gear. This is a variation of the original T.A.D. Gear Shag Master fleece. If there's one thing you can't miss about Patrick, his attention for detail is impeccable ~ combine that with his love of toys, nature, product design and a background in the army... is it really surprising that even this Creature Hoodie has had orders heading to soldiers in Iraq and A-stan as well as hollywood studios? His clientele on any given day ranges from die hard toy collectors to special forces, so you can only imagine. ANYHOW... you know i can rant on for eons about how incredible the company and products are, but lets move on to showing you all the details and fun photos of them skating at night with the hoodies on the next page, and to win one (he'll drop ship it in your size!) leave a comment with some adventure/animal tales!
"Beam Global Spirits and Wine, Inc., redefines rye with company's first ultra-premium rye whiskey - (rī)1 Whiskey Brings Cocktail Style and Straightforward Sophistication to Traditional Rye Whiskey Category", and you've got to admit, it is a seriously un-whiskey looking designer bottle... and even more stunning is the acrylic box they sent it over encased in along with a glass and the coolest stirrer/stirrer placement i have ever seen. Using the transparency of the styrofoam slit to turn the plastic stirrer into what appeared to be a floating droplet of (rī)1 when you slide open the box... so awesome!
(rī)1 - pronounced Rye-One - is certainly making waves in what has been a rather traditional genre, and the flavor is incredible... the spiciness really hits you upside the head (i decided i'd try it neat first and not read the tasting notes until after, so i didn't see it coming)... it was refreshing and fascinating with a cube of ice, really opening up the flavors - you have to try it!
As the press release describes: "Bottled at 92 proof, (rī)1 features a light, slightly spicy flavor and a long, luxurious finish. Straight, the nose offers a gentle, peppery nod to its rye heritage. Cut with water, the scents of dried fruit and cinnamon push to the front, providing a rich palate experience." Also exciting... "Future variants, including (rī)2 and (rī)3, are planned to create a complete product line." Can't wait to see what those flavors are like! But for now, you have to check out the incredible acrylic box of goodies - i've been trying to figure out what else it can be used for, and first idea is... light box? See all the pics on the next page!
Gift Guide: all the goodies for kids! And really, i'd want the majority of stuff on here too ~ and there is also stuff for little teeny tiny kids (aka new parents) ~ as well as stuffed toys, toy toys, cardboard forts and airplanes, to toys to chew on and playful woody cars and blocks! Click on through to check out the massive collage of a gift guide!
TO WIN: Leave a comment ~ this time tell us something fun about kids toys! ENTER BY 11/24. WINNER: Michal in Florida!
On to giveaway #5 ~ our friends at Fawn & Forest always find the most amazing kids gear - from furniture to clothing to really really fun toys and they have found that perfect balance between modern and eco-friendly! So for this giveaway, they've generously offered a bundle of woody goodness for kids (ok, or some for you and some to share with the kids)...
See more closeups of the products below, as well as stories behind the designers, and a coupon to Fawn & Forest!
There's something so beautiful about glass, and i've been particularly obsessive with double walled glass recently (like, what is out there beyond the usual Bodum cups and such) ~ and more organic and playful glass pieces... and as gifts, they always look so precious and beautiful... fun shadows, light dancing all around! So here's a gift guide of Glassiness! See the next page for the guide, click the images to find out more, and a few coupons at the bottom to help you out as well!
I think i am obsessed with a large green glossy lacquered rocking chicken. Is that weird? Is it weirder that tonight i am obsessed with it because of Jamie Hayon's Lladro Fantasy Collection where he playfully mixes his designer goodness and attention to detail with the classic porcelain collectibles... But back to the chicken. It's giant. It's green. It's glossy. And i bet when you rock on it your mind fills with ideas and you get taken on a dreamy world of inspiration... or maybe thats the sleeping pill kicking in and i'm starting to fade and dream up ideas (how is it 3:30am?)? Regardless, between all the giveaways, thought you'd have fun taking a peek at the sketches and more images of the great green rocking chicken on the next page... see more at Jamie's site too!
