Earlier i showed you Scumco & Sons’ ABC’s of offensive rap lyrics, a stunning layering of styles and techniques ultimately cumulating to 26 one of a kind decks. Well, for you fellow process-junkies, here’s a look inside the world of Scumco & Sons… Gorgeous work space!
It’s not often you see Letterpress mixed with Skateboard art… mixed with exotic hardwoods… mixed with ABCs… especially the ABC’s of offensive rap lyrics. Amazingly Scumco & Sons seems to have managed to merged all of that… and more. Crafted in their Pittsburgh studios, Scumco & Sons have launched this one of a kind 26 piece art series of decks. Nick Teodori grabbed my attention with them in person last weekend, and i must say they are even more stunning in person! His attention to detail is hard to miss. Layer upon layer of graphics, colors, woods, and meaning for you to decipher and interpret as you wish. Can you name all of the rap songs that inspired them? Can you name the beautiful exotic woods used? Can you imagine teaching kids the alphabets off of these? Which letter would you pick to adorn your wall? The Process: Standard 7 layer maple deck with an 8th layer of 0.06 mm furniture veneer, with prints made on a Vandercook Universal III then heat transferred. p.s. While some have been sold ~ a few letters are still available from the collection… so hard trying to decide which one/s my wall needs.

Just came across this absolutely stunning octopus print and skateboard design by ZSO (Sara Blake). Apparently it is a “charity piece for a skate deck art show happening in LA for Heal the Bay. I don’t know much about the other artists or even where it’s happening right now, but I was just happy to make a skateboard for something to help wildlife. Orginal drawing is pencil and ink. Board is a digital print on Moab Entrada rag bright with mixed media (acrylic, ink,pencil), and gel medium.” SO beautiful ~ see it fully and in sketch form on the next page!
Remember the Stacks Skateboard decks? And the random idea i fixated on to make a fun swing out of a skateboard? Well when popping by ikea, ran into the $14 Ecorre Swing and couldn’t resist using some of the parts with the skateboard… so on silly little experiments ~ here’s a look at trying it out in the tree!
The nice folks at Stacks sent over some skateboards and shirts from their new Summer 2010 collection that’s graphically influenced by knights and old school Monte Carlo racing imagery… beautiful graphics by Michael Leon and Paul Hutchinson. Had a lot of fun shooting pics of these on the grass at dusk while getting literally attacked by the fog that i watched roll in across the back yard and engulf me ( and ruin my light!) ~ only to disappear as quickly as it rolled through. Eerie and awesome all at once! Also, now one of two things really needs to happen… i need to learn to skate… and/or it’s definitely time to take the idea of turning a skateboard into a swing for the tree in the front yard further! My not having a skateboard handy was my excuse for procrastination, then Stacks has this magical package sent over… it’s like they KNEW! Anyhow, take a peek at the closeups on the next page! (As well as the sketchstorming Leo did on this skateboard/swing idea!)
Ooooh a sneak peek at potentially a new reason for me to be amused by the iPhone (currently iPhysics is still my main source of iphone amusement)... but imagine if this sneak peek of a Vans Finger Fracture Skateboarding game for iPhone is real?
