Freudama und Sodele

freudama.jpgI fall in love with boys, but… not as hard as i do for certain graphics and ideas. Freudama und Sodele had me with both… i love their graphic design aesthetic, and the idea of locking these great designs as slide film images locked into various materials. Not to mention their story… i love a good artistic love affair…

united by friendship and a similar taste
in art and humour, freudama & sodele started out in summer 1999. they
design and make contemporary jewellery as well as other small objects, drawing from both parties different educational backgrounds. one might see their work as mini art, as lovable oddities or as roguish
entertainment.

They kind of remind me of the stories of Charles and Marie. I know i’m such a sappy romantic when design/travel/big ideas come into play.

Dementedly great.

What more can i say that these shirts don’t already. I feel like both of these encompass *me today. Cute. Check out the others at Modern Planet, but these are the best.

… oh and the “three guitars” rock too.

functional

indivicon.jpg
Indeed i amuse easily, but strangely recontextualized bits of levels/thermometers/compasses just seem playfully useful. Never know when you’re not sure which way you’re headed and a clean little ring can guide you through? Or when you’re burning up in a meeting… and everyone can see it b/c it is on your necklace? Or when you just feel a little “off” the level will help set you straight. Ahhh. Individual Icons goods as promised in last post.

Think of when…

mc_think.jpgPerspective is the key. and in this case, placement is the key to creating the perfect context to keep yourself in check when it comes to money matters. First post of a few to come on Individual Icons wares that i have fallen for tonight.

Absolut Wrap

absolutwrap.jpg
I love Absolut presents… their design never ceases to amaze and amuse me… and this time i just couldn’t stop giggling when the Absolut Wrap above showed up, such a blatent rip off the smartwraps i kind of wanted earlier, but didn’t feel they were worth paying money for. But for design’s sake, i had to post this.

Z4 Concept…

z4.jpg
If ever i were to admit that something were able to comepletly satisfy me… i think this may be it. The Z4 Concept car… launched in Germany a few months back, just found it on my desktop, and *sigh. Been meaning to post it for a while, but must have kept getting distracted by staring at it. Zoom Zoom… here’s the birth of a new category.

Murray Moss

6long-neck-bottle.jpg Ah Mr. Moss… undermining the laziness of artistic endeavors with this impatience thing…

“When you’re used to technology advancing by leaps and bounds, you get impatient,” Moss says, pointing to Hella Jongerius’ Long Neck bottle. The vessel’s glass top and porcelain bottom are taped together because the designer had no more refined way to bind the materials. She didn’t have time to solve that problem. She wasn’t interested in it.

click the pic to check out the Business Week slide show thingy with Mr. Moss’ views on up and coming design trends.

Happy Halloween Approaching

ghostshirt.jpgI’m not a huge fan of halloween. But this shirt does a nice subtle job of being dressed up, without having to really be dressed up… as long as you end up in enough dark places to have it show up… or black lights. yum.

eNook

enook.pngAnthro is a designer of high quality modular and ergonomic computer furniture, all with a Lifetime Warranty. They recently launched the eNook, which is the best tech space saver i’ve found for any home or space where you have your laptop, mp3, psp, mobile phones, camera, bluetooth gadgets, and more. And a great way to keep it out of sight, cables and all. Its the murphy bed of portable tech, with a build in power strip and a full system of cable management clips, its the cleanest way to store your gear, and still have the slim wall mount serve as a fold out desktop. Beyond the tech, the design details and customizable options make this worth exploring for your space… Fabric patterns range from “Morph/Autumn” and “Dwell/Coop” to things like “Quantum/Beeline”… and the main finish comes in Maple, Cherry wood, or a white finish. eNook starts shipping in mid-November, and the base unit is $399.

French GD meets Tile

industreal.pngCarreaux enchantes “A reinterpretation of the classic square ceramic tile. Form is freed from its shackles and plays with volume and thickness. Everyone can compose their own fresco, decorate their walls and play with these building blocks.” Designed by Chou Cailou, a french graphic/product design duo. Love the hedgehog… found on industreal.

Ron Arad’s Victoria + Albert

im12000438.victoria.jpg
This is the first divani (couch, but divani sounds more exciting) i fell for when i moved to Milan for design school. Wandering through the streets upon one of many exquisite design showrooms, this one has me breathless. So i had to post it when i ran into it again while researching some other pieces…

Floral Doodles

tord.png
I fell for the floral ways of Tord Boontje designs long before i realized who they were… they are in fact the brilliant minds behind much of the floral laser cut garland styled lamps, lace, silks, chairs, and patterns you’ve seen around the last 2 years at all design shows… (see more pics post jump)… but i just found these plates at the London Design Museum Shop, and they are just gorgeously playful. Yes i’m grinning to no end posting this post. Enjoy.

David Doubilet

doubilet.png
Not sure about you, but with my sea loving dad and our frequent diving and fishing adventures…. David Doubilet was a household name… that apparently i’d forgotten lately until finding a link to his new site! For anyone out there who loves the ocean, or needs another reason to fall for/into it… look at these images. Best underwater photography EVER.

Cups…

cups.jpg
Kai Richter design from 2002 titled “Cups”. I crave expresso right now… These were a cool idea. But two cups = two one sip half expressos? [i’m sleepy, so this is a quickie random post before doing more work]

Charles & Marie

charlesandmarie.png
Been meaning to post this for a while… this new found portal of a Quintessential Lifestyle Navigator, put the effort where most sites stop, resulting not only in fabulous content, but great site design (those retro-esque patterns on the banners just make me swoon for some reason)… And the elaborate stories of Charles & Marie read like a romance novel for intellectual world travellers with impeccable tastes… Josh Spear invited me into their little world, and you really ought to go check it out as well.
