Nalgene Flask

nalgeneflask.jpgResearching water bottle options - just noticed this Nalgene Flask - since when did Nalgene make flasks?!?! Contains 12 ounces (350 ml), one-ounce cap, includes durable insulation sleeve, and prevents plastic taste and odor while being leakproof for traveling.

Subversive Ikea

kieren_jones_poang_sled.jpg
Kieren Jones - you are brilliant. “Kieren Jones uses IKEA’s best selling products, the Poang chair and Bumerang clothes hangers, to create new products such as a sled, a stag’s head and a crossbow that fires IKEA pencils. To be precise, Kieren has created do-it-yourself manuals that guide the user through the necessary steps to create these new products.” via MocoLoco. With Ikea - you can do anything?

Patagonia Tees

patagoniatees.jpg
I know we feature a lot of smaller tee designers - but now and then bigger companies get it right - and these Patagonia tees seemed postworthy. There’s something about that whale i just love, and good colors, and extremely comfortable materials.

Sitegraph

notcotgraph.jpg
“LOOK - NO TABLES!” (aka no red dots) - ok so to the left we have the graph of .org and the right is .com - pretty sweet applet by the designer of those one thousand paintings (blue numbers on white) - check out Siteograph. Via the appropriately named I Guess We’ll Just Have to Adjust.

Lightweight

patagoniasilic.jpg
Quick vent - how horrendous is it that travel and outdoor stores are always trying to sell you those lightweight travel bags for “when you suddenly need a tote bag” and the colors and styles LOOK like they came out of your pocket and took 5 seconds to design?

Well check out the new Lightweight line over at Patagonia… made of “extremely lightweight triple-ripstop fabric affords excellent tear resistance” - it feels a bit like that silicized cordura you can find in camping sections for stuff sacks and such. AND they all fold up into their own tiny pockets. Its the lightest bag/backpack i’ve seen in a while, especially where effort went into smart design. The Courier is messenger bag meets tote - inspired by the classic Buddhist monk’s bag. And the Tote and Backpack are simple, but have the essential extra pockes inside/on top.

SKUBES

sqube.jpg
What could be more cool than SKULL+CUBE=SKUBE! These newest pieces by Jamungo (the blowupdolls guys - you know the bomb head figures?) are SO SWEET, they are actually making me consider going to comicon to check them out. According to VinylPulse (where i found these great images of their test pulls) “SDCC will be your first opportunity to see the 4”x4”x4” Sqube up close and personal. At this point there’s no word on release dates. Here’s the edition breakdown: white -500, black -350, glow -250, clear -100, clear green - 50”

Catnip Birdies

catnipbirdie.pngHey they are organic. The catnip, inside the birds. These are the funniest, most sinister and minimalist cat toys i’ve seen. And apparently they are “life sized”. Found these over at Greener Grass Design - the lovely ladies over there have the best taste! And this 2:50am, Shade Elaine and i have had an extrordinarily long busy and extremely productive day with all things NOTCOT and are starting to lose it - yet can’t stop finding more to amuse ourselves with. So if you haven’t yet seen the Monkey Food Diet guy over at .org, you are missing out, actually today has been a particular good day at .org, an abundance of quality finds.

Political Balls

headballs.jpgIt’s World Cup time, so i’m entitled to post as many balls as i want - and you must admit these couldn’t be passed up. Via .org this gem from the SF Gate - “Heads will roll: Just in time for the World Cup, visitors to the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts can bounce Bush or Blair, corner-kick Clinton or soccer-punch Saddam. Kendell Geers’ interactive art, titled Masked Ball, is one of 24 football-themed works by international artists. “

Freitag Balls

freitagballs.jpg
GOOOOOOOOOAL! Everyone’s doing it. World Cup season is officially here when every designer seems to be making their own balls ~ Love these Freitag ones (ok, so who am i kidding, we all know i love all things freitag more or less) - especially their disclaimer: “The ranking expressed here follows purely aesthetical criteria and does not necessarily reflect the views of Freitag staff or the Swiss Football Association.” - some days, aesthetics rankings are just as crucial.

Collaged Goodness

chako.jpg
Shade Elaine and i were chatting and she pointed me over to a friend’s site - How fun are these cards by Chako Suzuki? Nice little collaged pieces which will be showing at the “My Favorite Things” Show down in San Diego June 16th.

Personalized Spade

spadezebra.jpg
Kate Spade launches a new line of personalized stationery, and this zebra print was just begging to be posted. It puts those LL Bean backpack monograms to shame… and then some.

YES YES!

yesyes.jpgHow enthusiastic are you as a bride to be? Would a double diamond ring make you exclaim “YES! YES!” ? Check out this and a few other fun pieces over at Noisy Forest, their shirts have been featured at Commes des Garcons and Colette to name a few. And funky quote from their Finding Rabbit section - “Rabbit is an indescribable feeling, a kind of silly happiness that leaves you dumbfounded for the entire day, a spontaneous split second that changes your whole life’s events.” (???) “Have you found your rabbit?” [thanks Tan]

Ross MacDonald

rossmacdonald.jpg
Have you ever watched a movie and been distracted by the details, like the graphics in some so called ancient book they are flipping through, or the beautiful old styled handwriting of old love letters they are reading? - well i guess, then you’re a designer too! I have often found myself wondering, who makes these things?!?! I mean, clearly they were custom made to fit the film, especially since people go through the effort of working in sketches that look like the actors, etc etc…

Well, look no further, at least for a first glimpse of that line of work - and check out the absolutely incredible talent of Ross MacDonald - he is one such designer, who’s illustration style and abilities surpass many i’ve seen lately - and does everything from the books in the Legend of Zorro [see above], to hand letterpressing. [I found him when i was doing some obsessive reearch on letterpressing] - More of my favorites below.

Yeti Love

yetilove.jpg
What happens when Sasquatch the Bigfoot, meets Yeti the Abominable Snowman? Apparently love, and something that involves a chainsaw, ghurka knife and rock filled snowballs. From my favorite figurine designers Rocketworld - and their brilliant Insurgent Wilderness Gruppo series - these two are Series 3.
