KaviarKind

acornsetc.jpg
Veering away from that dangerous weaponry as jewelry trend, here are the more oceanic and naturally inspired ones with a slight twist. Jermacide claims ties between that diamond studded peach pit on what looks like a golden shoe lace and James and the Giant Peach, but i feel like its a slight reach. In a similar - fruit leftover - type of way, that applecore is somewhat interesting… and the acorn is just cute and simple. Then for the oceanic pieces, i really liked the smooth curvature of the mantas and octopus, so just threw them in for fun. Pieces from KaviarKind.

Ted Baker ENDURANCE

tedbakeredurance.jpg
The name cracks me up, the irony of the whole line feels like it should be some insane art project - but infact it is Ted Baker’s ENDURANCE line of camping goods exclusive to Blacks. Firstly, lets look at that Tiger Skin Printed Inflatable Mattress, no last minute visitors can fail to have a good laugh as you inflate that for them to sleep on. But more seriously, imagine going camping - to actually go hunting or fishing, and when it comes time to set up camp, you whip out a tent covered with trout, and a graphic of a cat on the side swatting at them… or one covered in bamboo print with a deer’s head graphic “mounted” on the side? [there is even one with a rose patterned print and ducks flying along the side] Ted Baker has always had some interesting fashions, but this Endurance line blew me away. There are also sleeping bags and those foldup lightweight chairs!

Drink Me

drinkme.jpg
Alice in Wonderland fans and Harry Potter fans both have Oxford in common, since much of the inspiration from both directly originated from this educational institution. And the timeless insanity provoked by Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass as well as the mystery behind his relationship with Alice Liddell have fascinated many for years on end… So one of the not to miss little parts of Oxford is the Sheep Shop. This was the little shop that Alice used to go buy her sweets at, and it is said that it was run by an old woman who’s voice used to sound like a sheep. The Sheep Shop in the book was a curio shop where everything you try to look at begins to float away, and the original shop was even used as the model for the first Looking Glass illustrations. Above is the “Drink Me” pendant set i couldn’t resist.

Sign of Spring

gbeers.jpg
Everywhere here seems to be dripping with tradition and secrets of the past… last pub stop in Oxford was Turf Tavern, a very hidden little hangout that might as well have “local’s only” scribbled in the passageways heading in to it. After the last week of horrid weather and most kids finishing exams, today was the sunniest Sunday of happy people everywhere, and Turf Tavern was the nicest way to spend the afternoon sitting out in the patio. Also how adorable is the label for Stonehenge Ale’s “Sign of Spring” pint of neon green - we had to give it a try, seeing as it was possibly the most perfect spring day i’ve seen here yet.

unboxed

opening.jpg
Sorry for the slowing in posting - two things - 1) oxford is slow yet busy somehow. 2)NY ICFF jealous, and have too many pictures and designs to check out popping up on all the usuals (d*s, mocoloco, core77) - that i’m overwhelmed as to what to show you, while wishing i were there! And its really sweet to be reading about FlowMarket, that i checked out in Copenhagen, and their new ICFF setup - its a great concept/thought-provoker. Also - well, 3) I should be back in the city of angels monday. So things will be picking up again… many side projects ready to launch…

My random picture up there is that UNBOXING is a fun newish blog - that plays to your voyeuristic + shopaholic + package design loving sides.

PolkaGris Shots

shotmints.jpg
I found these Shots Mint bottles in a little village outside Boras, and it was such a pretty looking gift idea. Love the bottle, and it looks somewhat like baby snakes curled up in the bottoms… but it is infact Polkagris. Basically you add your favorite vodka/liquer or choice, let it sit for an hours, and *poof* minty shots are ready to go! I wonder what this looks like color wise as well - will have to test it out soon. As for the Polkagris, it is like giant sticks of candy cane goodness, but SO much better and in so many different flavors, stopped by the town of Granna on the way to Stockholm and checked out the original Polkagris store - more pics below.

Don’t Sacrifice Hygiene

diodeneck.jpgZelle - “ELECTRONIC LIFESTYLE HIPSTER STORE” - what’s that mean? Well… “[Fractalspin is] filled with geeky, yet fashionable stuff. Not all of us are Thinkgeek style nerds. Some of us indulge in the digital without sacrificing hygiene.” - those last three little words are key.

Anyhow, yes, i’m a bit out of it and cleaning through the inbox is good fun with such great submissions - but i am kicking myself for not having read more carefully earlier… for i’d love to have that necklace, except its a one of a kind (SOLD OUT) Cascading Diode Necklace… and i’ve been wanting something of that style for a while, but hated the boring jewels commonly seen when you get close enough. But don’t fear there are many more fun ones at ZelleStyle… also Electronic Musician’s Emergency Adapters! Love the packaging. Makes me want to be an electronic musician.

People Like Them

peoplelikeus.jpg
People Like Us. So “ARE people like them?” or “DO people like them?” - tricky, clever, and i love this shirt. I know i’ve passed by this shirt a few times on various sites, but it popped up in my inbox cleaning, and i stopped and looked at it more closely and fell in love with that robin all over again. And how cool is their packaging? with the goodies that look like pins and postcards and CANDY? T-shirts definitely ought to be more than simply some cloth in a bubble wrap people!

Oddica

oddica.jpg
“We love Art and Design, Typography, and of course, T-shirts. Oddica is the perfect outlet for our passions. We have designed T-shirts for companies such as Split, Hurley, West Coast Choppers, and Sole Technology, and we have shipped T-shirts to retailers large and small. It is this experience, working on both sides of the T-shirt industry, that has led us here. The focal point of our company is our Artists. How they interpret a particular idea, and how that idea looks on a shirt, determines whether a customer is going to buy, plain and simple.”

Tonight, on top of the WHAT people are making, i’m stuck on the question of WHY. And cleaning through my inbox (which i’m sorry everyone, i’m very behind on due to taking care of some family business here in Oxford at the moment) - this about section of Oddica just felt like the reason why any of us should do anything. But the shirts look amazing, and i can’t wait to see some in person, they certainly have the right ideas behind this company.

notcot.org-y

notcotorgy.pngLife in Oxford is a bit backwards right now, as is my internet connection and posting ability. But while massive posts are less frequent, we’ve been adding much fun stuff in visual snip-it form over at NOTCOT.ORG! [and thanks to people writing in for passwords, we are looking forward to having more fun additions over there, and also can see many more extensive posts here growing from things people point out to us at .org] Check out the interview with Nokia’s Liisa Puolakka - Head of Brand Visual and Sensorial Experiences as well as some very cool art/figurines. We have the random commentary going there… the soundbites that we exclaim as we come across those images… but don’t be fooled, the content is quality, its just that backpage where (as if it were possible) we care even more about images than we do here at notcot.com!

Feedback on the concept - want RSS/Tagging? should it be sorted/searchable? does bulletin board - post away, and new will pile up over old - work?
