Cupperwear

johnnycupcake.jpg
“The mysterious Johnny Cupcakes creates & pushes all sorts of limited edition/exclusive clothing & accessories for both ladies & gents, all with cupcakes encoded within his designs. Johnny makes a living of traveling all over, throwing his coined “Cupperwear Parties” at random galleries, colleges, boutiques, apartments, & so forth. Everyone likes cupcakes.” —- yes that’s right, he doesn’t even make the cupcakes, you make them, for your party. Everyone has a gimmick? And this one is a fun line of cupcake branded merch - very fun! And mix in some of that tupperware party style fun that seems to be IN again [been invited to passion parties - jewlery parties - spa parties - its like the new way of selling again?]… and there you go! But really, how much DO you love cupcakes?

Ticker Garden

tickergarden.png
With so many ways to track your stocks out there, its a pity this one isn’t a fancy little web app - but check out the visuals? Its a very pretty/organic way to watch your stocks grow and bloom. Green blossoms are growing, red dropping. Blossom radius denotes percentage of growth/loss. And the height shows the relative price. PC app by Digitectonics. [via infoaesthetics]

Toothbrush Case

wilcox.jpg
Dominic Wilcox launches his new site… and i discover his old toothbrush case which intrigued me this 3am. He’s the man behind those honesty stamps [“But i’ve changed!” + “It wasn’t my fault” as a new gift set] and that infamous War Bowl made of melted plastic soldiers.

Cocaine Chic

pillow.jpg
While what’s old is new again - and couture is recycling incredibly fast… are we really at a point of Cocaine Chic being in? Well, CarteBlanche is the brain child of French Designers Jean-Philippe and Gaston Valeur- a “new luxury products company pioneering cocaine-chic couture”. Wow. But i think this opens up a whole new line of pharma merch - think of it the way beer brands advertise on billiard lamps and neon signage - can’t you see doc’s offices and hip loungey bars with crazy pill filled PILLows? Beanbags (i mean PILLbags)? The possibilities go so far. And they could be in different colors and shapes and sizes… So get to it someone - open the PILL bar or pharmacy? [via Core77]

Diesel Wall Time

dieselwall.jpg
It’s that time of year again - a chance to take on the Diesel Walls in Milan and Berlin. The one in Milan brings me back to the first time they did it down at Porta Chinese - my favorite one (the soccer one) you can see below. ALSO - there is now a BOOK! Need to get my hands on this…

Dutch Disturbance

judith.jpg
Dutch Disturbance is Judith van den Boom’s 2005 collection. Van den Boom, a 28 y.old Dutch designer from Utrecht cooperated with a factory to create her new work. Conceived after exploring the dusty attics of the Royal Delft Blue factory in Holland, she reconnected with Dutch indentity and hertitage while challanging it’s own stereotypes.” - and I love this incredible mix of old and new with that sharp dangerous edge… literally. And theres something about that look of what, in my head, could be blue ballpoint on porcelain. Also - a big congratulations to Judith on her big move to London to pursure her Masters in Design and Ceramics at RCA!!! [Check out a few more pics below]

DNA Competition

DNA_POSTER.jpgDiesel is sponsoring another brilliant design competition - the DNA Competition. You can submit to the Denmark, Sweden, Norway, or Austria panel of judges, and the categories are Action, Digital, Draw, and Photo. It’s unique in that you can show the progression of your works development through uploads until the deadline… fun layout of the site too.

Foil Inspiration

foilstuff.jpg
Here’s a silly trend dedicated to RUGenius and her years and years of fencing - apparently its cool again - since its showing design influcences in an Ikea toilet scrubber - and the best find yet - Target has this giant bubble wand (click the pic to see it bigger, definitely worth it). Basically you can use it to make gigantic bubbles, then turn it back into foil mode to burst them with - or play fence each other.

Happy Owl Glass

happyowlanimal.gif
Gorgeous individually handcrafted fused-glass badges by Happy Owl Glass. Measuring 7/8” square and no two are exactly alike (says the site). There are also some fun cufflinks and adorable little dishes available. I love the style and natural quality of the images, very fun for gifts. Check out the images below for my favorites of the creatures.

Howies?

howies.jpg
[Guest article by RUGenius - its a good read - she asks the right questions] Howie’s, “environmentally conscious casual clothing and sportswear designed for bikers, skateboarders and snowboarders”, is a nice, wholesome, eco-friendly brand. In fact, they remind me of Oregon. But they also make my head hurt. I mean, are we seeing innovation and honesty here or a slick exploitation of our desire for simplicity by some cackling marketing agent? I implore you, fellow notcot readers…help me think through this one. [Fun images below…]

Brownjohn

brownjohn.jpgIn looking for inspiration on typography and design, i found myself browsing the archives of the Design Museum London - and i came across the works of Robert Brownjohn. This PEACE card is a nice concept, and it just seemed worth making a note of. And the math geek within was momentarily amused by the math typography piece as well.

From the Fields

fieldfriends.jpg
Strange night, been through so many websites while i can’t sleep and somehow there feels like a dry spell in design/art inspiration [other than the very well covered salone events in milan] - untli i found these Field Figurines. Since this is Easter weekend, at first glance, i simply assumed they were made of chocolate. [and actually with the uprising of designer toys, i think there’d be a market for designer toy chocolate, you already have the molds made]. But i digress - the brilliant folks of Monster Factory designed these for the Collection of Foreign Objects exhibition “Generated Habitats” which is running till April 29 in Toronto. Far more pics below!

Fancy Pony Land

fancypony.jpg What a name, Fancy Pony Land, but do not fear, its not a my little pony shiny rip off… its actually a fun fashion line of Lorna Leedy who grew up in Washington and is apparently now wandering the states in a Eurovan Camper. This collection with the oceanic theme is cute, and i’m liking the octopus skirt and the shark top, but put these all together and it feels very Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus series i grew up on. Come to think of it - i think this could be a great line for fun elementary school teachers teaching an oceans lesson!
