3am - Going through hundreds of pictures ~ and not sure where to even start, or if i should just curl up and get some sleep, somehow these two pictures from within hours of each other felt like they needed to be shown together. While separately they grabbed me, together they felt inseparable.
Found on a billboard in Noho ~ “Material possessions won’t make you happy, or maybe they will.” And then riding the elevator “home” to my room at the Gramercy Park Hotel ~ “Help Is On The Way” ~ instead of my floor, every time i step in, i want to press that. Where is the “Everything will be ok.” button? Feel free to see both far away and close ups on the next page. Interpret as you will!

It’s 3am. I’m tired, but i felt like i needed to share before the backlog built up and my excitement wandered off… what a day its been, so much #OBJECTHUNT fun ~ so many supportive folks having fun at design week this year between workaholicking. And between it all i stumbled upon Mr. Brainwash’s takeover of the boarded up construction ~ mixed with scrawls about what a hack he is ~ only to turn across the street to see all his art also inside at a huge gallery show… and it was filled with classic designer chairs… so, i couldn’t help myself, the mix of spray paint art, pithy statements and quotes, elephants-kangaroos-snoopy made of tires, a life size NY taxi packaged in matchbox packaging with a toys r us price tag… so say what you will about his work ~ i just had to take and share some pics! See it all on the next page…

#OBJECTHUNT begins! What began as a random idea, quickly turned into a citywide Twitter Sticker Scavenger Hunt with the help of my amazing, fun, design blogger friends: Sub-Studio, Apartment Therapy, Design Milk, Moco Loco, The World’s Best Ever, Cool Hunting, and Design Glut! With all the running around NY for Design Week, decided to add another layer of playfulness to it by hiding #OBJECTHUNT stickers around New York City (some near design events ~ others may show up who knows where?)…
If you are keen enough to spot one…TWEET A PIC OF IT with hashtag #OBJECTHUNT to be entered to win the Ultimate Design Getaway package courtesy of The Standard hotel, NOTCOT and Dwell:
2 Nights Stay at The Standard, Downtown LA in a “huge” guest room with a deep tub and daily breakfast for two.
2 Home Tour tickets to Dwell on Design in LA, June 25-27; includes a weekend pass and a choice of a Eastside or Westside tour. Courtesy of Dwell on Design, a preeminent modern design show for the design trade on the West Coast.
A PUPPY! That is, an adorable classic Eero Aarnio designed toy puppy from the Magis ‘Me too’ children’s collection, courtesy of NOTCOT.
UPDATE ~ Cool Hunting will be picking a second winner… for an iPAD!
See all the official details at Object Hunt! So far a few stickers are up… and more will be popping up at some of our favorite design events throughout the weekend… Let the #OBJECTHUNT begin! HAPPY HUNTING!!!
p.s.
HUGE thanks to The Standard hotel for being such an enabler of fun. [HINT#1: they may be a good place to start hunting… HINT#2: more hints will be tweeted by all of us through the weekend!]
Popped by the adorable store at the Standard NY Store today and got a peek at the new limited edition artist scarves in person. They are adorable, feel so soft and perfect to brighten up your day ~ a perfect pairing to the stunningly sunny day in NY today! A follow up to their artist t-shirts collaboration last year, The Standard has commissioned three artists representing LA, NY and Miami—Thomas Campbell (for CA), José Parlá (for Miami), and RoStarr (for NY) to design art printed on a limited edition run of silk-cashmere scarves (100 pieces of each produced). While they aren’t in all the Standard Hotels’ stores yet ~ they can also be purchased online! Perhaps i shouldn’t be surprised anymore that the California ones seem to always be my favorites… take a peek at the beautiful scarf display in the NY store, how they wrap it if you purchase it there (adorable tote graphics!), and more scarf details on the next page!

Firstly, Incase ~ THANK YOU. (They were so incredibly nice, and while i was chatting with them about ipad cases and where all this touch goodness is heading, upon hearing my ipad might travel naked to NY/London, they just messengered over a sample Convertible Book Jacket case to help protect it before tonight’s flight!)
Secondly, this case is awesome! (I posted it as the most tempting case i’d seen so far on notcot.org earlier.) Feels great, super solid quality of course ~ and their signature topographic pattern in the microfiber lining! Best part of all, is after having the ipad around for a bit. i’ve found its great to leave around the house and in the kitchen when friends stop over and either need toys to play with, or start talking about some website ~ so much easier to have them use that to pull it up, rather than hand over my laptop or try to view it on a tiny phone… only problem has been not having a nice way to tilt it ergonomically to share and poke at it simultaneously, so definitely needed a case that allowed for the different viewing angles! While it does add a little heft to the ipad, i actually like it better with the case, versus how it feels naked, its just so slippy and uncomfortable to hold/use in most situations! Anyhow, need to pack and get to the airport soon, but take a peek at close ups of the Incase Convertible Book Jacket for iPad on the next page!
p.s.
while preparing for #ObjectHunt ~ and cutting sooooo many stickers the last few days, couldn’t resist adding a little NOTCOT one to the spine of the jacket!

Got to love a good room divider, and often they are not nearly as fun as they should be! Enter ~ SWARM for Council by Mike and Maaike! In playful, happy colors with a chaotically orderly pattern… and apparently there is even a large installation of it outside the ICFF Theater! “Swarm is a space divider that offers great flexibility in density and scale, enabling the creation of light-filled, intimate spaces within open environments. The term Swarm describes an aggregation of animals (insects, fish, birds and microorganisms) of similar size and body orientation, generally cruising in the same direction. The Swarm space divider displays a similar behavior, softening spaces, fading in and out, creating texture and motion. The self-standing units blend together when arranged in groups.” See more pics on the next page!

Still working my way through lots of milan pics, and had to share this one ~ aren’t they lovely? Sam Baron, the current Art Director of Fabrica (Benetton Group) has created the beautiful Philippe I coffee table for Casamania, made of lime-wood, MDF and walnut finished in white lacquer with transparent glass top/black lacquer with mirrored glass top. Sweet and reminiscent of Jaime Hayon’s style legacy at Fabrica…. take a peek at more pics on the next page!

Spotted across the street when we were in Milan ~ Fritz Hansen had an incredible display not only showcasing the new NAP chair by Kasper Salto… but the whole process, from inspiration boards to prototypes to failed tests and more! It’s an inspiring way to see how much work and testing goes into a product that ends up so simple, functional, and beautiful. See the full walk through on the next page!

When i visited the Oakley HQ a few months back, one of the things i quickly became obsessed with was this artist edition Antix Oakley collaboration with Mambo. Yes, its from fall 2009 ~ but how did i never notice? And how did no one tell me about 1) how amazing the concept is and 2) how cool the packaging is~ particularly in how it opens! It’s fun enough i even had to make a little video for you on the next page so you can understand what i’m talking about! But first, back to 1 ~ the concept! Why do i not have more toys that serve a higher purpose… like holding my sunglasses on my desk and looking pretty cool while doing it? With details down to certain toes being lifted up, thumbs to hold it in place, a little red tongue… It’s a stunning toy. And a mind blowing glasses holder. And we haven’t even gotten to the beautiful art work adorning all sides of the box, the sunglass’ sleeve, and the sides of the glasses themselves. See more of Flavien Demarigny, franco-hungarian artist, born in Santiago, aka Mambo’s work here. As for the details i can’t stop gushing about on this stunning Oakley artist collaboration… see the pics and video on the next page!
