NorthFace Whistle

northfacewhistle.jpg
WOW. I love when you get your hands on a brilliantly designed product that is gorgeous and functions perfectly - and then you get surprised by some genius little detail. Like this WHISTLE - built into the clip that goes across your chest on this North Face Plasma 30 backpack. [please excuse the pic, and for a tiny bit more context, see below - i just bought my sister this bag, was playing around with it, the dslr was handy, turned it on myself, and the rest is… yea] My two favorite details in this picture are that the chest strap is removable/adjustable AND it has a whistle built in. You never know when you might need one, and it sure beats having another thing dangling from your bag - not to mention due to the adjustable/removable nature of this section, you can actually blow on it. Yes, details often fascinate me.

Bone China Gnomes

gardengnoming.jpg
From Vitamin, A Life Less Ordinary - the ones who brought you the incredibly cute IV Drip Plant Pot…. also have this funky twist on the garden gnome. The Gno’s are a black and white glossy bone china “urban gnomes” - ready to take on those old school guys with little red hats, fishing poles, etc. I think they’d frighten me if i woke up to a troop of them lined up like in the picture all over my lawn. Are these possibly almost cooler than the vinyl figurines that are everywhere?

Kawasaki’s Woody Ladies

woodyartist-prints.jpg
Mesmerized by the works of LA Artist, Audrey Kawasaki, tonight… noticed her on Fabulist and went through as much of her work as i could find! My favorites are below (watch out there are many!)… Something about the way these illustrations are painted in/out of the wood (depending on your perspective, perhaps), yet almost floating like a translucent layer above it. You can tell from my pics, i’m especially drawn to her images with natural elements, be it flowers, mushrooms, birds, monkeys… and that art nouveau feel of them mixed with the innocent, simple lined characters with such piercing eyes. She has a show starting July 7th in Seattle at Roq la Rue.

Trash Bag Capsule

bagcapsule.jpg
I think i must raise the question - Has SimpleHuman OVERsimplified? I noticed this “bag capsule” over at FreshArrival and upon looking into it further the capusle basically holds a giant tube of trashbag material (i say material, since if its just a tube, can you really call it a bag?) - and the idea is that you pull out as much as you need, and tear it off, and tie a knot at the “bottom” - fill it with trash - then tie off the top too? Sweet design on the packaging though. I just don’t know if i’d trust the bottom being simply tied, less secure for the liquids and gooier substances?

Voting now on .ORG

voteorg.jpg
VOTING! and Chronological vs. Popular Sort options. So here’s a quick little collage to get you going… its in like pre-alpha modes - we whipped it up last night in about an hour - just for kicks. B/c we’re just like that. Also when you click on a NAME - you can see all the posts from that person. Lots of bugs possibly, maybe not, so let me know - but in a nutshell you see your possible rollovers in red up there - click the heart to vote on it - click it again to unvote. But i didn’t feel like having it say vote - so it’s NICE! and NOT NICE. Anyhow for all of you who read, but don’t post, you can vote and it becomes slightly more interactive. NOTCOT.org

Ora Ito Ogo

oraitoogo.jpg
Hey ID kids, any one else notice the familiarity of this OGO bottle? This oxygen water has been hitting all the big sites, and then the comments about how your body has lungs for oxygen, why try making your stomach deal with it pop up. But as designers… its all about the BOTTLE. It was designed back in 2003 by imfamous Parisian Ora Ito Studio. Somehow realizing that i can sleep better now… i knew something about OGO was bothering me. (and no not just the flashy sound mandatory OGO website)

Blooming teas

adagio.jpg
I honestly don’t recall where exactly I found this, been reading SO many sites for freelancing, i admit my mind has been a bit of a jumble the last week. But i saved this over at .org to come back to - so here it is! Isn’t it a beautiful concept? The idea of taking the experience of drinking tea beyond the beauty of the tea pots and cups, the sense of taste and smell - but making to make the tea literally bloom in your cup is like a little dose of performance art.

And the IngenuiTEA is “the most convenient teapot you will find anywhere” - they guarentee it. “When tea is ready, simply place it atop your cup. This will cause a valve at the bottom to release: crystal-clear tea flows down, while the mesh filter retains all the leaves with one of the best infusers on the market.” Not to mention easy to clean, dishwasher AND microwave safe.

In the hectic state my life has reached this week, there’s some calming and soothing about such beautifully designed “experiences”… Adagio Teas.

Penguin’s Got A Gun

penguingotagun.jpg
My friend’s icon is a penguin with a gun - what am i supposed to think? So I badgered him till he divulged his source (he just wasn’t the kind of guy to draw it himself) - and here we have the works of Petra Mrzyk & Jean-Francois Moriceau. The were recently seen over at LACMA. And the details to these ink on paper pieces will delight even the most cynical of folks. But the penguin with the gun takes the cake. Followed by the dinosaurs having tea. And then the deers in the movies.

Chocolate Swim

CHLTSWIM_POSTER.jpg
Happy 4th of July long weekend to the US kids - finally got around to checking out the new *free* Chocolate Swim LP released by AdultSwim, and while other than MosDef, i wasn’t totally feeling it - i do LOVE the graphics that come with. Check out the sweet poster above - and that skeleton with the boombox was on the download page and was far to perfect not to post. Download here.

Tension Thing

tension00.jpg
It has been a tense, busy kind of day. So sorry been a bit quiet on the posts - if you’re looking for things here and there isn’t enough new stuff… check out NOTCOT.org (i have a tendency to “save” things over there on busy days - and the other posters/readers have been posting some really quality finds)

Here we have Tension Thing by Judith Fegerl, real human hair that reacts as you see to the right when charged. “20cm long human hair is embedded into the ceramic sphere. The object is charged by a high voltage generator (about 120-200kVolts) and the embedded hair is standing upwards due to the electromagnetic field. Rhythmical it slowly charges and discharges. Within this object a contextual connection between emotional excitement and physical voltage is established. A characteristic of human emotion is being isolated, extracted, transformed and reimplanted into an object, that is again interacting with a real person.” [via one of my new favs, the SciFi Tech Blog, yes SciFi the TV station]

WordCount

wordcount.png
WordCount™ is an artistic experiment in the way we use language. It presents the 86,800 most frequently used English words, ranked in order of commonness. Each word is scaled to reflect its frequency relative to the words that precede and follow it, giving a visual barometer of relevance. The larger the word, the more we use it. The smaller the word, the more uncommon it is. WordCount was designed with a minimalist aesthetic, to let the information speak for itself. The interface is clean, basic and intuitive. The goal is for the user to feel embedded in the language, sifting through words like an archaeologist through sand, awaiting the unexpected find. ” Pretty. There’s also QueryCount, but that might be a bit more NSFW. By the Johnathan Harris who brought you We Feel Fine and Lovelines and Oral Fixation Mints and helped with Etsy and so much more. Massager

facemassager.jpg
This is about the size of a disposable razor - and that clear bit is rubbery - and its just about the most bizarre thing i’ve played with in a while - and when it cost a mere 2$ i had to get it. Turns out its a face massager - could be a sculpting tool, or some crazy hair streaking tool, or who knows? Well weird as it sounds it actually feels pretty sweet as a face massager, and i just like sitting here playing with it while i try to work. Massive sale going down at L’occitane.
